I would not recommend this physical therapy office based on my experience…read more I had an initial evaluation scheduled weeks in advance and made significant efforts to ensure I could attend. In fact, I chose not to travel out of town that weekend specifically because I did not want to miss this appointment. I also completed all intake forms and paperwork online ahead of time to make the process as smooth as possible. Unfortunately, there was a major accident on the highway during my 40-minute drive to the office. As soon as I realized I would be delayed, I called the office twice, but no one answered. I left a voicemail explaining the situation and letting them know I was still on my way. I finally received a callback when I was only two minutes away from the office. I informed the front desk that I was pulling into the parking lot. When I arrived, approximately 20 minutes into my one-hour appointment, I was told that my therapist, Grant Mullins, would not be able to see me because an entire hour was required for the initial assessment. What made this especially frustrating was the complete lack of flexibility, empathy, or effort to find a solution. Grant was present and watched the conversation taking place at the front desk from one of the treatment stations, yet never approached me to discuss the situation personally. There were no patients with him at the time, as the appointment slot had been reserved for me. Rather than attempting a shortened evaluation, discussing next steps, or even acknowledging the inconvenience, I was simply turned away after driving 40 minutes to get there. I understand that schedules matter and that policies exist. However, exceptional patient care requires communication, professionalism, and basic courtesy. After making every reasonable effort to notify the office of my delay, completing all paperwork in advance, and arriving ready for my appointment, I expected far better treatment. Instead, I left feeling ignored, disrespected, and as though my time had no value. I don't know if race has anything to do with it, but it's an all white office in Tennessee, and I am black. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this practice and will be seeking care elsewhere.

Dishonest Billing…read more Unfortunately, there isn't a rating below one star. Know what you're getting into. I began my PT experience in December 2023. Initially, I was told that working toward my insurance deductible, each session would be $100 out of pocket. It seemed high, but Benchmark was recommended by my doctor. I did 2 sessions a week for a few weeks each time paying out of pocket $100. After 8 weeks, I was actually worse than when I started for multiple reasons, so I stopped. Shortly thereafter, I received a bill for $1,200+ for the balance due on the sessions that I completed. No one ever told me that the $100 I was paying for each session was only part of a $281+ total amount due. At no point did anyone tell me about the total amount for each session. I contested the bill and got an itemized accounting for each session that was shocking. As an example, they bill $69 (per session) for 15 minutes on a recumbent bicycle for your warmup. Some of my sessions were billed to insurance at $361 each. I would never have agreed to start the PT sessions had I known that important detail. I now understand from their Customer Service that this issue has happened previously and is being addressed with training for Accounting Staff. Nonetheless, my $1,200 is still due because I signed the insurance agreement. Subject to being turned over for collections if I do not pay. Albeit never having been told the true amount for each session. After sharing my story with my doctor, his practice has since stopped recommending Benchmark PT. They were not honest with me, and I strongly recommend that before engaging with them, have a detailed session financial quote in writing. In my experience, Patient care is second to financial gain for Benchmark Physical Therapy.

Even under a mask Casey always had a welcoming smile (impressive). Dr. Garells made me feel comfortable and very informed, as I do ask a lot of questions. I was not thrilled to have 9 weeks of physical therapy ahead but Dr. Garrles assured me I would be grateful I did. Along with Dr. Garrels was a very impressive student assisting. Roni was not only very well educated but also funny and thoughtful. We didn't just talk about my injury which was very refreshing. I began looking forward to physical therapy each week and even elected to finish virtually. I do not live in Tennessee and had to come back to NY. I was worried I would have to start all over but instead I got to graduate on FaceTime! Although I hope to never have an injury like this again, if I did I would be right back at Benchmark.
