We've been at Res for over a year and have really enjoyed both the community and the approach to academics. We decided to switch school and join Res after starting at a Montessori school and wanted to continue ensuring that our children were in an environment that balanced strong academics, social emotional well-being, care for one's community and extracurricular activities. We've been so happy and impressed with Resurrection Elementary! A few things that we've truly appreciated about the school - Communication: Both the school and the teachers send periodic messages making sure that parents are informed about weekly/upcoming activities, what's happening within the classroom, and if there's anything notable about your child. (I just received an email with pictures from special activities and a note about something nice that my child did in class.) - Class connections: I think most Catholic schools may have a buddy system, but I have found the buddy program at Res to be really quite special. The older grades pair with younger grades and do weekly/monthly activities where the kids get "buddy time." The younger kids feel so special during these activities and it helps the children know people throughout the school, not just in the few classes around them. Beyond these activities, I often see the buddies acknowledge, play with, and include their little buddies at recess, in school activities, and during weekend church. The attitude, kindness, and thoughtfulness from the older kids says a lot about the school environment to me. - Academics: We've appreciated the attention and thoughtfulness the teachers have towards the children. During our last conference, the teacher could tell us where our child was doing well, areas they could improve upon, and how they were getting along in the class and school community. When we asked about making some of the work a bit more challenging, the teacher had great options/solutions and it has felt like a very good partnership. - Active (but not too active) parents/community: the school will ask for help via volunteering and the various events have been really lovely to join. Whether it's helping in the library, at lunch Duty, or with different activities to help the school, it's reasonable -- even for working families. - After care: The aftercare is incredibly helpful and reasonable. As a working family, we need the extra support through the day. During aftercare, there are sometimes extra activities/clubs -- whether sports, coding, chess or other activities in addition to the extended care activities. My kiddo asks to stay longer at extended care and we often see him playing with kiddos or playing games/reading with one of the teachers. We've had other experiences in other schools that haven't been as great as Res. Ultimately, each family needs to make the best decision based on their kiddos needs for school. We've been at schools that focus nearly solely on academics and push material in a way that children don't ultimately understand the information. We've appreciated Res and their focus on understanding the material while maintaining high academic standards while also thinking of the whole child. (Also, I should mention that we are a mixed religion family. While Res is a Catholic school, we've found it to be very welcoming, regardless of religious beliefs.) read more

I've been wanting to write this review for a very long time but wanted to make sure I wasn't writing it emotionally. Parents - do your research in this school before enrolling your kiddos. Kindergarten teacher (Hall) was amazing. Fostered an incredible experience for our kiddo for the 7 months she attended in person school for the 2019/2020 school year. Would give her 10 stars if I could. Our daughter loved her and truly excelled in this class. She had an issue with another student bullying her and Hall handled it extremely well. Principal (Jackie Wright) was useless in this situation to be honest until we threatened to unenroll her. Luckily, we had Hall on our side who truly helped us fight for our girl. First grade teacher (Rodriguez) was TERRIBLE. Spent the full first grade year on Zoom listening to her berate 6 & 7 year old kids. At least 5 times she put my daughter in a position of complete meltdown where she was inconsolable for a while after. She would publicly shame students on Zoom and specifically point out students by name if they did something wrong or didn't know the answer to something. It was really sad. At one point, we pulled her from class after Rodriguez completely crossed the line and immediately emailed her that we needed to talk. She was completely dismissive about our feedback and literally told us that "6 year olds lie" forgetting that we heard the entire interaction that lead up to that. Wound up emailing the principal (Jackie Wright) who was also completely dismissive (again) of our concerns and made excuses for the teacher treating little kids that way. Never would have thought my child would be bullied by a teacher for thousands of dollars a month. Real Christ like, right? Absolutely abhorrent behavior from adults who are supposed to be fostering a positive learning experience for young children. We pushed through the end of the 2020/2021 school year and left Resurrection. Our daughter is now in public school and THRIVING. Good luck if you send your kids here. Outside of the kindergarten class, don't expect the emotional and physical wellbeing of your child to be taken seriously. read more

Have 3 kids here. We actually moved further away sometime after our first started and could go to a variety of closer schools to our house both public and private. In general we continue to send our kids here as the majority of teachers are amazing and so in the principal who spends time on her weekend making the school better. I have waited almost a year to post this review about my child's traumatic experience at the school. I am writing this in the hope that no other kid needs to go through the torture my kid experience for the half year he was in the school. The Kindergarten teacher Ms.Hall expects military level discipline from kids in class - always berating and never encouraging. Any complaints against her to school authorities resulted in my kid getting punished in class. She never once gave negative feedback about our kid but his negative experiences in class made me believe that it was retribution for our complaints against her. We complained multiple times while at school including the one time she told us our 5 year old kid (who is on the smaller side) should be capable of opening the car door and getting out of the car by himself (during the drive-through drop off). Another time she left our kid alone in school grounds as a form of punishment - he was all of 5 years ; she didn't even inform us about it. We came to know much later. The mental torture my child faced at this school changed his personality enough for us to pull him out of school mid-year. He is so much happier and is thriving in his new school. Apart from the teacher being exceptionally bad, the school has other problems too: - The curriculum is poor and wasn't challenging enough to keep my kid interested in school. - Very few students (11 students in my child's class - 2 of whom left mid-year) - After school program is poor. Kids are left to play in the grounds by themselves. - The management does nothing about complaints. I believe they passed on our feedback to the teacher which resulted in vengeful behavior from her side. The buck stops with the Principal - there are multiple reviews in Yelp about this particular teacher and yet nothing has been done; she continues unabated. The only positive about this school is the beautiful campus. Too bad it is wasted on this sham of a school. Please keep your kids away! read more

I honestly don't even know where to start with this. My child has been attending this school for a while now and neither me or my child has enjoyed our experience at this school. Teachers like to get into the mix of friend groups which I think is completely inappropriate. Grades in certain classes are based on how much the teacher likes you, and not the effort put into the work at hand. I strongly recommend anyone reading this review to not let their child attend this school. Mainly, I have had problems with junior high teachers. Specially Mrs.Lee, she treats the older students as if they were five years old. Teachers also tend to have favorites and they tend to be the children who do best in their class. Maybe it's the fact that the teachers don't get paid enough...but they always seem to be in a mood. read more

I have mixed feeling about Resurrection. The PreKindergarten teacher is incredible. She is loving, kind, and provides her class with foundational phonic and phonemic awareness skills. It all falls apart in Kindergarten. The reading curriculum strays from phonics and the children are expected to read words too complicated for their level, e.g. monster, penguin, party... The Kindergarten teacher is mean and spends more time criticizing the children than teaching. In first grade, the children are marked down for needing to use a bathroom. Second grade is excellent,third grade had a fantastic teacher for a year and now has one that is young, immature, and ill suited to teach, fourth grade is excellent, etc. It continues with a great teacher one year and a horrible one the next. read more

Very cool large 10 acre campus for this preK-8th grade school. The biggest issue is that there are several Catholic schools in the area that should be merged to build the critical mass needed to keep it vibrant. School has just under 300 students with tuition at $7k for parish families and $9k for everyone else. Most of the families here have access to good public schools, but choose Resurrection because they realize how important spirituality is to the development of a whole person. We've been through 6 grades at Res and love the program and teachers. The class sizes are small, the curriculum age appropriate, and the community is amazing. Our kids are all very happy here and adore their teachers. The after school program (and before school too) is very affordable and a great option for parents that just need a little flexibility with pickups and dropoffs. The older kids interact so well with the younger kids; they've done a great job building community and confidence amongst the students. read more

Horrible school!!! Pulled my child from here after two weeks of school 5 years ago, always meant to write a review but never got around to it. By reading recent reviews It seems this school is still dealing with lazy non patient teachers. My child's class had three teachers and yet they couldn't handle the kids, WHAT A JOKE!! Everyday I had a complaint about my child. Taking my child out of this school and placing him in non religious school was the best decision ever. It's ridiculous the amount of volunteer work they want the parents to do, pfffttttt sorry but no!! They can hire people to clean desks and what not. I'm so busy I barely have anytime for myself and I'll be dammed whatever free time I have would be doing volunteer work for this joke of a school. They also focus way too much time on religion versus actual school work and they expect little 4 and 5 year olds to sit still every Friday for mass. TRIPPIN!! read more

I find it hypocritical that when a negative Yelp review is posted the administration reaches out and wants to discuss our experience????!!!! We complained while at this school, little was done! I watched, over Zoom, this teacher verbally abuse children. If they couldn't do something, they were told they weren't listening, not trying hard enough, asked what was wrong with them that they couldn't do the work. My favorite was telling a child, why can't you do this; the other kids can. I complained, other parents complained, the teacher would improve for a week and then start her abuse again. She would tell kids that her children, who were younger, could do something and ask the child why can't they? This was all while parents could watch over Zoom. How does she treat the kids when parents can't watch??? I put the blame squarely on the principal. The principal was informed, the principal did not fix the problem. This is the response you get from the principal: placating words but no action, no resolution and the children are left to deal with an abusive teacher who should be fired. read more

The teachers and staff seemed nice but my son first week was a negative experience . The first day my son was bit and left with a bruise. I notice my son going to school happy and returning home sad. I made the decision to pull him out and enroll him in the local public. My son is thriving and is extremely happy that I took him out and put him in the "happy school" as he likes to call it. I do not recommend this school if your child is out going and friendly . The environment was not the right choice for him and the teachers seem to lack experience on managing children. read more

Faculty has issues. Mrs. Lee literally can't handle boys and throws a pissy fit over meaningless mistakes to push her even more meaningless agenda and policies. Mrs. Hall shouldn't be a teacher anymore after the abuse she put her students through. Claiming this is the "worst class" she's ever had over and over. Proud Parent!!! I'm so glad that I enrolled my son in Res. Not only is the community amazing (people that will be there for you when you need them) but the staff (teachers and administrative) are understanding & warm. Fun sports program for 4-8th graders. I particularly love their buddy system - making sure that all the kids are set up to have an older-younger child buddy. It's adorable for the younger kids, and heart warming when they graduate! Full disclosure, I help out with admissions for this school, but really wanted to share what my first visit to Resurrection School was like. It was incredibly easy to find and extremely close to Apple. The principal and teachers are extremely kind and believe in the quality of education so much, that many send their own children there. What blew me away is that some of the teachers are alums, having attended Resurrection, going on to have successful college careers and then coming back as a teacher to their beloved school. There is blended learning in each grade but what sets this school apart is it's emphasis on P.E.A.C.E. filled students: P-eaceful, faith-filled Catholic, E-ducationally prepared, lifelong learning, A-dventurer for life, C-ommunity-minded, responsible citizen, E-arth protector. They don't play lip service to P.E.A.C.E. here, they actually mean it. Every classroom has P.E.A.C.E. elements and activities prominently featured. They even have a P.E.A.C.E. garden where they encourage kids who may have disagreements to work their problems out together, with a teacher to facilitate. Who wouldn't want their kid to develop conflict resolution skills like that early on? It's pretty awesome. The facilities are excellent - computer lab, library, iPads for each student in each classroom, brand new science lab, LCD projectors, document cameras, etc., Like I said before, I'm bias because I help out with admissions, but it's just important that people know about this school and know their options. read more

Just a straightforward review of my experience here: Proud parent of two children at the school right now. A few years ago, 2 years ago to be exact, the school faced some unique challenges when the longtime principal retired. I'm happy to say that the school has bounced back ever so nicely, with a new principal and a great approach to teaching. At drop off, I look around and see parents having great conversations with each other and also getting to know new parents. Right now, the parents here get it. They skip the overly critical and blown out of proportion exaggerations that they could make about every little thing. Instead they have joined in the community and are helping the school thrive everyday. They know that being sour grapes about things and then going around exaggerating about people and incidents is simply not the right thing to do. So major props to the parents and entire community for an incredibly awesome environment this year!! While the academics are important, do not send your children here if academics are the only thing on your mind. Send your kids here if you want them to be good human beings who will learn how to overcome any challenge that comes along in life by using faith and perseverance. They'll have the luxury of a gargantuan campus, a safe and clean environment with great after school programs and athletics, and an academic cirriculum that is preferred by all the top private high schools in the south bay. This school is Sunnyvale's best kept secret. The teachers and staff are constantly looking at ways to improve the entire experience of your children while there. Every single teacher there is a 10/10 as far as my interaction with them goes. I am confident in the place and feel confident in telling you that, in the event of any issues, THEY WILL LISTEN TO YOU and they will work on what is best for your kid. If you have a brain, you will know that there is no such thing as a "perfect" school. In this day and age so many people have a sense of entitlement and low tolerance for bumps in the road. This is a very good school, the teachers are all solid and the school is well run. Last year they did have an issue with a new principal, but they have a new principal this year and the school is back on track to being outstanding. My daughter is in 1st grade here. This school is awesome! We came from a different Catholic School in Sunnyvale, which was nice too. BUT Res fits us as a family so much better! Kindergarten was great, and 1st grade has been a dream as well. The school has their own sports programs, and a really nice campus. I love that the kids really get to know each other, there is a lot of focus on treating each other with respect, and continuously keeping the environment peace-filled. Definitely will be sending my other two children here, when the time comes. I'm excited to see what opportunities open up for them as a result of the quality education they will receive as RES. Res is a wonderful school! The new principal has children at the school as well as experience as a teacher. She knows the school and the community. We love the community at the school and the parents really work with one another to strengthen the community. The staff have worked with us to keep our child safe with his food allergies. Resurrection is a peace center, child focused campus for JK - 8th. We have been here for 3 years now and we haven't experienced otherwise. We had to evaluate local catholic and neighborhood schools from afar because my husband's job relocated us. Imagine trying to pick a school for your child's school career without having the luxury of growing up in the area and getting to know it from people you know and experiencing it directly. I started with the Internet search as most of us do and I also did drive-by's of about 15 and planned visits to my top 4. I scheduled both tours and impromptu visits. What i found out was the Res (as we call it) Principal was on the ball, accountable, invested and provided children w/ compassion. That was what i was looking for in a principal And of course she is approachable by both parents and students and staff. I also liked the class size. Now that we are in 1st grade I see that the class size of 18-24 approximately with an additional aide is ideal for the learning objectives - getting my child ready for their next step/grade etc. The new additional style of pod or collaborative learning and using the Katharine Drexel School Initiative has shown to be beneficial as well. Resurrection School and only 6 others Catholic Schools were chosen to participate the Katharine Drexel School Initiative. One of the main goals of the initiative is to integrate digital opportunities in the classroom with small group learning component to enhance core content. The mix of digital learning and teacher led interaction is the basic concept behind blended learning. And i have seen my child benefit from it directly. On an aesthetic nature, you can't beat 10 acres of land and a parish on site. There are plenty of green grass fields to play on and its available to children all the time. Some schools have to alternate day of grass play w/ days of concrete play per grade. It is truly a hidden gem in the Silicon Valley. read more

Wonderful school that develops the student as a whole person--with its excellent academic and faith formation program, as well as social awareness and sports initiatives. Staff and teacher turnover has been low, many of them have been with Res for more than 10 years so there is a great sense of continuity and close-knit community. The one thing that also stands out is the parent involvement. Res is very family-oriented and as a fairly new parent, I am amazed at how helpful and dedicated all the parents are with the school's success and children's well-being. This is our second year at Resurrection School. Our son is now in Kindergarten after starting in the Junior Kindergarten program last year. We have not once regretted our choice of starting him at Resurrection. He has blossomed academically and socially. There is no trouble getting him to go to school, the teachers make learning fun and exciting. Our son has made many new friends over the last two years, and so have we. Love this school! I have two children that attend this school and it has so much to offer. It has a large campus, a gym, a computer lab, a library and a great extended care program. It has such a great sense of community and so many extra programs to help build character. I think the best extra program they have is their buddy program. They actually take the time to do meaningful activities and field trips with their buddies and there is nothing better than seeing your Kindergartener high five Grade 7s as they leave campus at the end of the day. This development of relationships within the school community creates a wonderful sense of belonging and gives the older children the opportunity to develop empathy and leadership skills. Of course the academic programs are fantastic with an emphasis on STEM without taking away from the basics like reading. My daughter read 9 novels this year! Most importantly the staff makes this a great school. The teachers love their jobs, love teaching and genuinely care about their students. Resurrection School has been an integral part of our children's development for the last 7 years. We have two children at the school and feel so blessed to have such a peace-filled environment for them to grow up in. We have a new Principal this year who is a walking example of Gospel values and provides the appropriate tone for the students and faculty to be the very best they can be. The academics are very strong and the children are so fortunate to have a beautiful campus, many extracurricular activities and such a well rounded education. As Catholics it was important for our family that the values we teach at home are reinforced and echoed in school. This is certainly the case. The community has been a great group to walk with and we have so many friends that help our children continue to grow into responsible, community minded young people.
