I book it a couple months out. Complete pro via email. Asks for a rough sketch. Send it in a week before. Day of we show up about 1... My buddy has about... I dunno... 40? 50 hours in tattoo studio? Head to toe. He's AMAZED at how fast Jeff is able to do our Come and Take It pieces. Anywhere else it would be 3 hours each. Here, we were in and out in 1.5 hours of needle time. If you want an efficient comic book nerd comic that will bullshit with you about Garth Ennis and give you some ink you can be proud of come here. If you want to complain about how your anchor tattoo isn't exactly how you saw it or that they didn't have time to write a Harry Potter quote on you go drown yourself in a river. read more

So I couldn't give them a 1 star because I have had some great work done here in the past but I was very disappointed with my recent experience. Here's the quick timeline: - Walked in and asked for a consult - artist was busy but said to leave my info and he would call back (never did) - Next day, called, no answer so I left a VM (never got a call back), Emailed that night, no response ever - Two days later, walked in around 1pm and the store was open but nobody was there at all, lights on and even waited for 10 minutes and called into the back...Nothing After all this I decided to go to SouthSide Tattoo because they had great reviews, best decision I ever made! Their staff is experienced and fun, they took my design to heart and spent time going over and over mocks till it was perfect. The price was beyond fair ($100) for a solid 3 hours of work (45 in the chair). I gave them a good tip and will be going back here exclusively moving forward! read more

Some good friends recommended this place for my second tattoo (and my sister's first). The place was clean and the artists were polite, professional, and friendly! We went in without an appointment and were helped right away. TIna explained how our original ideas wouldn't work as well as we'd like, but she took our original designs and made them better! I've been to Resurrection twice, and I've seen Bradley both times. This place is great. I would highly recommend going here. I've been nothing but impressed with Bradley for both tattoos. I first went in to have a piece that was done by someone else touched up. Bradley spent time looking over the whole piece (most of the front part of my upper arm) and discussing different options with me. The touch up/re-do came out looking better than I thought it would, or even could. I went in the second time for a new tattoo on the opposite arm. I had a black and white image of what I wanted, but I wanted the tattoo to have some color. Bradley easily picked out a few different colors that go together perfectly. His line work and shading are fantastic. Finally - the prices are amazing! Such a good deal all around. read more

I had Tina do a beautiful bird tattoo for me in November 2011. While I love the tattoo, there were a few lines that needed darkening. I talked with her and she told me to come back at 7:30. I returned, but there was no one at the front desk. I peeked into their office, and Tina was talking to someone else. She waved me off, and said she'd be with me in a few minutes. I waited for a half an hour, but she never came out of the office. Other people came in to ask about tattoos, and they were not acknowledged either. While Tina does beautiful tattoos, she sadly lacks in professionalism. read more

I had heard a lot of really great things about Resurrection so i pushed my girlfriend to go to the shop when she wanted a simple piece done. It was about a 6 inch long paint brush and the words "paint on". We went early in the afternoon and Tina, the owner, said she could do the work later in the day. She was getting a tattoo so we would have to wait until after that. Tina seemed pretty surly which is exactly what my girlfriend likes in a tattoo artist - no nonsense, no chit chat, just get thw work done. Tina calls us up, tells us to come over and then says she needs to do the drawing. Remember: 6 inch paint brush, two words. Tina disappeared for almost 2 hours to do this drawing. Eventually, when we were about ready to walk out the door, she slid out of the back room and was ready. Something was off for sure but we sort of just thought that was her personality. So we go back into the studio where it takes her another 45 minutes to set up. She assures us that my girlfriend will not be charged for the set up time. All the while she is just yammering on. They get the stencil set and she starts the work. We had gotten to the place at 730. It's now 10 pm. Remember again: 6 inch paint brush, two words. At some point in the middle she had to get up. My girlfriend and i talked. We agreed she must have taken some painkiller before her tattoo and it was rendering her completely incoherent and incompetent. She rambled on for hours, glassy eyes and shaky disposition. The paint brush looked like a penis. My girlfriend asked if she would fix it and she said, yeah when I do the detail work, it'll look better. Well that never happened. Finally, at one in the morning, she finishes up. My girlfriend was almost in tears both from having the same spot on her arm tenderized for 3 hours and the fact that the tattoo looked like a cock. Mind you, Tina's husband was waiting for her so patiently the entire time but we could both tell he was getting really upset with her toward the end. Finally the tattoo was finished. Tina, in her enormous generosity, for this tiny tattoo only charged my girlfriend for two hours of work to the tune of $250 + a tip plus the 100 we had to pay to our babysitter who was only supposed to have our kid for 2 hours total. The next day, my girlfriend called up and complained and Tina said well you left so I thought you liked it. What a crock. There was no way we were staying in that place another second that night. We figured we could call and get a touch up or something to fix the phallus on my girlfriend's arm. She did offer to fix it but we were met with terrible service the night before, my girlfriend was afraid to go back. Sadly, none of the good things I had heard about this place turned out to be true. A lesson in professionalism to the owner of Resurrection Tattoo: of you plan on taking a pill before you yourself get a tattoo, don't offer up your services until you've sobered up. Go to Mom's Tattoo instead. They are fantastic and very professional. read more

Unless you know exactly what you want, don't visit looking for any type of consult. My son wanted his 1st tat as a memorial to his brother and when we visited, Ben was off. This other guy pretty well deflated my son's ideas and told him to think about it a couple weeks and come back. We went to Gully Cat after leaving and had an awesome experience. My son got a beautiful tat the next day and loves it. Not everyone wants colorful skulls or sleeves, so be a little more open to other ideas. Not a fan. read more

I had been wanting to get an old tattoo on my shoulder reinvented for a while now, and with a little time in my schedule, I decided to stop over to Resurrection Tattoo on a Friday. My roommate and I walked in and Cody was standing at the counter, gave us a hello, and asked if we were in for anything specific. I explained what I wanted and he promptly grabbed a piece of tracing paper, traced over my existing work and began to magically sketch around it. I confirmed that that was exactly what I was looking for and he told me he wanted to research the flowers and make a final finished drawing and we made an appointment to get it done Monday. I went in Monday and he had the sketch all mapped out and made sure the colors in the flower were exactly what I wanted, he got all set up, applied the drawing to my skin, and the magic began. I can't begin to tell you how talented of an artist this guy is. He explained to me that he prefers to use lighter line work and defines his images with more shadow and color, which was exactly what I was going for. I wanted something bold yet feminine. I have gotten a boat load of compliments from people and I just really love the piece. OH and did I mention, not only is he a super talented artist, but he has a personality! We chatted about everything from record collecting, to interesting work that has been requested by folks, from the most painful place he has had done. He was really enjoyable to just hang with. After all, a 3 and a half hour session can get pretty boring from the tattoo-ees perspective if there is nothing to talk about. All in all, amazing experience! I will for sure be back. Cody hasn't been at the shop for very long but just by his caliber of work, he is a well experienced artist with an abundance of talent. If you are looking for a artist who has an amazing attention to detail and is passionate about his work, then Cody is your man. read more

I have 2 tattoos from Annie Mess at Resurrection, and I can't recommend her highly enough. She has an artist's eye and an artist's soul, and can collaborate with you to make whatever your inspiration is better. She can take disparate elements and put them together in ways you hadn't even considered. And the ideas flow throughout the process, and she consults with you all the way. She told me on my latest that the elements I wanted wouldn't go together. She'd do it, but that in her professional opinion it would be too busy. So we worked together to get what I wanted put together in a new way. It was better than either of us originally conceived. She is a master at portraiture (she did both of my dogs in a photo-realistic manner), while being able to free-hand elements as well as work from stencil. She is a sweet person as well, and has a light touch. She even did my BF's first (and only) tattoo with grace (it must be hard to work on a first-timer, especially one who keeps changing ideas and going back and forth)- and FAST. And it's beautiful. All of them are beautiful. Not all of my tattoos are from Annie. But the best ones are. I really look forward to the next piece of art she brings to life on my skin. The shop itself is also a fun, bright environment. And I've talked with some of the other artists, and they are all fun and interesting folks. It's a really open space, and feels very comfortable. I enjoy being there (important when you're sitting for up to 4-hours at a pop). I can't recommend this shop and especially Annie Mess enough. read more

She quickly responded with lots of helpful info on everything and anything I might wonder about. She was not able to do our work but she scheduled us with her husband Roger. This was my boyfriend and I's first tattoo so we were beyond nervous when we went in, but Roger put on a Pandora playlist and conversed with us as if we were old friends. Looking for a tattoo studio in a city as full of them as Austin is can seem mind boggling, but the only shop that I go to, and the only place that I recommend, is Resurrection Tattoo on South Lamar. The studio is clean, filled with rad artwork and wonderful personality. They have a wide variety of artists who can cater to every style and design, and they offer both great custom work and a nice assortment of flash. Everyone in the shop really cares about the work that they do, and they take a lot of pride in their profession. They are open pretty much anytime you would want to get a tattoo, and are extremely accommodating to both walk-ins, and appointments. The amazing Ben Fiedler is my dude in the shop. He has given me four tattoos, and the first was actually a part of the reason why I decided to move to Austin, the rest being a combination of Hank III and never wanting to have to shovel snow again. Ben is an amazing artist, a seriously talented tattooer, and an all around epic guy. He brings a beautiful, bold, and unique style to everything that he draws, and he is able to work with you so that your tattoo is not only what you want, but one that will stand the test of time, and the toll of life. Ben can take any idea that you bring him and turn it into something that you are proud to have on your body. Everywhere I go people compliment me on the work that he has done, and not just other hipster kids with tattoos, old couples in line at CVS, and soccer moms at the gym. Ben takes the time to make sure that you are completely happy with your decision, and also helps to steer you in the direction that would make for the best tattoo. He likes wizards and troll dolls and really good music, and always makes me laugh, which is pretty hard to do when someone is poking you repeatedly with needles. I love Resurrection because I have never felt unwanted or looked down upon when I walk in. I've been tattooed by Annie and Ben, and I would highly recommend both.
