    Daenerys tattoo, front of leg
    katie r.

I had a very negative experience with an unprofessional artist, so when I decided I wanted my next piece I started looking around on Instagram, Reddit, online review sites, etc. I'm unsure where I found Art Realm, but it popped up, and I started looking through the artists. I really, really was attracted to Andrew Matela's work. Due to my previous experience I was very discouraged about contacting any artist. I assumed it would be months until I even heard from Andrew, but I was 100% wrong. He got back to me the next day. I was shocked! We set up a consultation, and I provided him with a bunch of references, and he was super jazzed about my idea. He said he'd do some research to better capture a realistic shot. Not only that, he made me feel so comfortable, and being an awkward person, I kind of knew it was a great fit! When I returned for my first session, he offered me a couple of designs. I wanted a portrait, so I really wanted a close up on the face. He drew it up, and then it was around 7 hours in the chair my first session. One difference I noticed from my previous artist is that he doesn't mess around at all ( as in taking calls, long consultations during my session, or just talking to other artists in the shop constantly). He is incredibly professional, and focused. I left my first session in love with the progress, and ready for my next one (even though my leg was throbbing). I think around my third session we had a little scheduling snafu where he'd accidentally double booked. He felt SO bad, but honestly it was better for me because I had a photo shoot the next day. He texted me that evening to apologize again, and said he would take some off the price to make up for it the next session. I also had some concerns about the way it was healing one time, and I emailed him and he called me back and assured me that it was all fine, but if I had anymore concerns, feel free to text or call. It put me at ease. I spent around 30ish hours (I think) in the chair, and it was a great experience and I can't wait to do it again. I'll definitely be a return customer (if I can ever get an appointment again haha). Thanks, Andrew! You're the best!

I found James in 2013/2014 when I moved to Austin. I had something that I needed covered up. Not only did he have an impressive portfolio, but he didn't recommend covering up with flowers (like a few others had). He asked me what direction I was leaning toward and asked for some ideas. What he came up with, from only the few ideas I had given him, was perfect. He is the only artist I see now. He has a great and varied style. A super creative mind. And is an incredible artist (not only on skin, but on canvas too). Starting from the cover up, we have worked on a handful of pieces on my thigh, right arm, and are halfway done with a sleeve on my left arm. The studio houses many great artists with many great styles. The space is relaxed and open. Everyone is very nice and they all have a good relationship with each other which makes for a great environment and place to spend a few hours.

Awesome work by Alfredo! I am definitely going back for more!

I came as a walk in and was helped by the artist Alfredo. He was very professional and showed great customer service. 10/10 Job, will be returning!

I love this place! I got a custom piece done by Andrew and he let me know up front about pricing, size, his methods, cleanliness of the shop, and how to maintain my tattoo (after care). I'll definitely be going back again and again.

James did a great job with my watercolor paper cranes.

Today I got my first ever tattoo and James was amazing. Upon first meeting him, he had a positive and easy going attitude. Plus he was willing to answer all my silly first time tattoo questions. He created a beautiful watercolor paper crane design that was even better than what I pictured in my head. The whole experience was fantastic and WAY less painful than I anticipated. The studio is very open and filled with beautiful artwork. Next time I get a tattoo, I will 100% be going back!

Chris Hedlund did a portrait of my beloved kitty! The experience was perfect from start to finish. I found Chris on instagram - he was amazing to work through the process and didn't flinch when I sent him 15 pictures of her. The tattooing process was great- he put me at ease and wasn't too heavy handed or rough. We took a couple breaks and every time I got to peek at the work I was just amazed. I receive endless compliments on it. The artistry, lines, color work are all better than I could have dreamed. Photos are day of and healed months later!!

This is the tattoo fully healed (about a month)

The dresses mostly run over $100 and aren't exactly my style. The prints are mostly fun and colorful and almost 60s-70s ish. I found their sterling silver jewelry and earrings to be more interesting. They had lots of unique flower shaped earrings that ranged around $32-44. They also sell kids clothes and gifts. The interior was a little dark. The dresses were mostly made of stretchy or comfy fabric. The dresses are more casual in nature (wrap dresses, summer dresses). They also sold bathing suits for around $80. Dresses I looked at were between $120-$200+ but I it was clear that they used inexpensive materials and not natural materials much at all. The sale items were still overpriced to me too. The sale items I saw in this place go for about $15-$50 max at a cheaper fast to fashion places in Michigan. The styles and trends are on par with every H&M store or blank fast to fashion spot you can think of. Do be aware of what you wrote in your review as the owner is quite sensitive and spiteful and can be mean if your reviews are not glowing towards her store or her products. 3 stars was tantamount to a slap in the face to her. First she had my revised review removed by Yelp because she didn't like my honesty and then she wrote me a nasty personal message telling me I have no style and no design background to be giving her only 3 stars, but she assumed this out of anger and not because she knows anything about me. Well she went down from 3 stars to 1 and if I could have given her 0 stars I would have gladly done so, given the opportunity due to her extremely foul personality. This is her customer service face, do be aware. I can see how Csilla is overly protective and it's abundantly clear how she can get when someone isn't glowing in their reviews. See the other only honest and low review on here. Perhaps Csilla may one day realize that we all have a right to our own opinion, that's the point of Yelp, to allow for honest and frank opinions about a person's experience with a business on here. Am I wrong? Is the credo of Yelp to put false and fabricated niceties of friends and family of the business owner to make it appear they are better than they are? The message may have seemed innocuous to her, but not to me. I hope she keeps her venom and foul personality far away from me. I might add instead of wasting her time replying and making that public scene on here she didn't want, why not work on honing your clothing designs and using better and more natural fabrics or possibly changing your pricing scheme for the quality and fabrics used. I can only guess now after my unpleasant dealings with her that she must have bullied all of her 5 stars into their reviews, that's not the first time I have seen this from a business owner on here. Bullying is not okay on here.

The museum is located at the intersection of Congress and 5th. I literally have walked by this museum hundreds of times and not gone in...it is easy to miss if you're rushing by. The museum is dedicated to Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin American art. Rosas y Revelaciones, the current exhibit, celebrates one of Mexico's most enduring spiritual and cultural icons. Featuring wearable and textile works by artists from 16 states across Mexico, the exhibition showcases devotion and innovation through garments inspired by La Virgen de Guadalupe (virgin of Guadalupe.) The galleries are small and intimate. Each gallery appears to have a specific purpose. In addition, after your stroll through the museum, you have the opportunity to purchase some items in their gift shop. It was quiet yet immersive experience.

In my pre judgement bias, I became suspicious the employee would want no part of me if he thought my pockets weren't deep enough. I couldnt have been more wrong. John, the owners son, had a limitless supply patience for my questions. I was so in awe of everything around me I spent 3 hours inside the gallery that first day, asking him dozens of questions. I was charmed to find that the gallery also had smaller and more affordable pieces, literally something for everyone at almost every price point. Every variation of Buddha from every age, vases, bronzes, busts, statues, jewelry, furniture and textiles can be found here.
