For the meal we had Sagres local beers, and the regional algarve specialty of clams in a butter-garlic sauce and then one of A Sagres' famous fish stews. This is a BIG pot of broth with rice at the bottom and many kinds of fish and prawn cooked with it. It is like a magnificent soup version of a paella. The menu is small and the fish options are regularly changing and updating as to what is fresh catch that day. This meal was for my girlfriends birthday and I had popped in a few days before to book the table and to ask if I could arrange for a birthday 'token' for the girlfriend. I had a cake with a candle in mind but Daniel, head waiter and son of the Chef arranged for some fresh flowers to be set on the table as we arrived - a fantastic touch and one greatly appreciated! The best part is that they come and Fillet the fish right in front of your eyes.
