Wow! I can see why this place is booked months in advance. I finally got to try out the small group cooking class and it was phenomenal. We did bistro bliss which consisted of cheese fondue and a salad appetizer, asparagus and fish as the entre, and chocolate profiteroles for dessert. The space itself is tucked in between some other local staples - Fishbones, Wahoo's, and Sticks & Stones. Inside though we sat at a long counter already set with cutlery and wine glasses. It is a small class limited to 8 people, and each of us took turns preparing one of the dishes. I got to mix the profiterole dough at the end and then plate them with chocolate sauce and ice cream! Every dish was delicious, fresh, and super fun to watch others prepare, season, etc. And there was plenty of wine to pair with the meal. Chef is super knowledgeable, authentic, fun, and entertaining. Well I did it again! My son gave me a gift certificate for a cooking experience and I honestly think it was for complete selfish reasons! His gain is all the new recipes I learn and continue to try at home. This time our chef was Brandy and honey she is dinner and a show. If you have not tried these hands on cooking classes you are really missing out. You pay for your class, you have a sit down dining experience eating all of your creations and did I mention the wine. This place absolutely needs more hype, and I am here to do it. If you're like me, I love to give and receive gifts that, rather than material objects, are more of an experience. When my amazing friend gifted me a gift card to Reto's Kitchen for us to take a cooking class together, I was ELATED! This is such an amazing experience to gift, or do as a date night or girls night. The first time I attended Reto's was a girls night with my gift card. We did a class with Brandy and when I say we were crying laughing, I am so serious. She completely made our experience. There was 3 of us, but several other couples or small groups in our class. It's a great way to meet new people. They allow everyone to participate in preparing the meal, but give you instruction and set you up for success! We did a steak dinner which had an appetizer, salad, steak, risotto, and desert. Oh, and wine INCLUDED! You really can't beat the value for everything you receive. It's a TON of food, and the experience alone is worth the money! We had so much fun during the class, Brandy and all the attendees decided it would be so fun to do a brunch class! Reto's actually reached out to everyone in our class and said they wanted to set up a brunch class like we had suggested and invite everyone back! It was so nice and fun for them to do that. My friends ended up not being able to go, so I took my mom with me. Again, we had an absolute BLAST with Brandy. All of the brunch food was fantastic. We were talking about how great it would be to bring the rest of our family and do a class together. They also do a culinary summer camp for kids! Tonight I had the pleasure of taking a private cooking class with our team from work. This was fabulous and hands on and the food was delicious that we cooked under the direction of Jackie. She was the type of person you feel like you've known forever. She was engaging and easy to talk to and made sure everyone was involved. You were served wines upon arrival. We made crepe wrapped asparagus which was super easy and would definitely impress your friends. The Bernaise sauce on the asparagus was rich and flavorful and the perfect dipping sauce. We then began making the French Vinaigrette dressing which had the perfect flavor with the white wine vinegar in it. This was the drizzle for our hand tossed fresh salad. We made a wonderful Parmesan crisp which was definitely something I will be doing at future gatherings. We ate all of them!!! Sooooo good and easy to replicate. We had a fillet with brandy cream sauce which was one of the best I've ever had. So much attention to detail and the instruction made it very easy to follow and make again in the future. We ended the evening with a chocolate volcano soufflé. We all kept saying, "oh my...this is so delicious!" I hope to return for many classes. I had no idea what to expect out of a local cooking class as I've never done one before. I didn't know if we would just be spectators or if we were all cooking every dish on the menu ‍ When I tell y'all this was the perfect introductory class, I'm not even kidding. It was an intimate class of 6, and we all took turns cooking the different dishes. (We were served a variety of French wines which was my liquid courage to step in front of the class to show off my non existent cooking skills ). It was the perfect balance between watching and being hands on! For our first course, we hand made mayonnaise from scratch. We used this condiment mixed with a little pesto to create a tomato canapé topped with basil. The PERFECT small appetizer to clue us in on the deliciousness that was to come the rest of the evening. The second course (the one Liz and I actually got our hands in) was a buttery fried Croque Monsieur (ham and gruyere cheese sandwich) topped with a Béchamel sauce! There was a lot of whisking involved (yes my arm was sore the next day lol) but this one was so good yet so simple, I plan to make this for my family sometime in the near future. And the power you feel when holding the blow torch to toast the cheese at the end is amazing The main course and dessert took a little longer to make so we took this time to sip our combo of red/white wines and got to know Chef Reto a little better. He told us how he got started in cooking - his dad didn't want him to be a chef so he threw him into every cooking opportunity he could hoping to get it out of his system (clearly didn't work ) and his early life was spent in the hospitality industry overseas before perusing his passion of cooking. He also clued us in on his favorite local restaurants - Machete is his overall favorite and a place I've wanted to visit so now we DEFINITELY have to make this happen! I was so awesomely impressed with Chef Reto - not only how interesting he is, but how knowledgeable he is about what we were cooking. He told us why we should use different kitchen gadgets rather than others and even taught us a little on the science of what was happening during the cooking/whisking process. Not to mention that his humor mixed with his mild temperament had me laughing all night long. We had a garden salad with hand made vinaigrette and asparagus topped with hollandaise to preface the main course. The main course (made by Liz!) was beef tenderloin tips topped with a red wine Demi glacé and mashed potatoes on the side. Dessert was hand made profiteroles topped with a caramel and chocolate sauce with vanilla ice cream to round it all out! The entire class took a little over three hours which gave us ample time to get to know both the Chef and our fellow cooking classmates which made the experience even more awesome. If anyone has been on the fence on whether or not to take one of these classes - please do yourself a favor and sign up! Even if you don't cook (I definitely don't as often as I should), the experience alone is totally and completely worth it! read more

Tried the French Cassoulet with Duck Confit and Andouille ($19.50), and the moderately spicy African Vegetable Stew ($11.25), and again to mixed reviews. The duck confit in the cassoulet is simply excellent. There is a full quarter duck (leg & thigh), as well as some more in the bean mixture, and it is all great. The beans are large, very large - actually Gigante Beans. They are a bit mealy, with a texture that says - under-cooked. But that is the style of this dish, this bean. You will either love them, or think they need more cooking. The andouille sausage was not one I prefer - the taste was just a bit off, a bit bland. I would get this again, even though I think the sausage adds nothing to the dish - the confit is worth it! The African Stew is not something I'd order again. This is a mixture of root vegetables, with a little Okra, & some beans, that tastes mostly of sweetness and cinnamon - way too much cinnamon. The taste of the vegetables are lost in the spices, though there is some heat to the whole mixture. This is a spot we'll try again because their is some real promise here, but there is also a tendency to over do the spices - for our tastes, at least. read more

Ordered a thanksgiving dinner online, and was thrilled with the results. Without a doubt the turkey was the best we've ever had, and all the sides were delicious as well. Our dinner included: Whole Turkey breast stuffed with rosemary, cranberries, and prosciutto Turkey gravy Cranberry-Orange Sauce with Grand Marnier Sweet Potato casserole with pecan topping French Green beans with orange and pecan Classic Herbed Stuffing The portions were large, service was excellent, AND the bill was actually less than expected. We have attended two cooking classes at Reto's Kitchen, and both were fabulous. The Mediterranean class and the Fish class were both excellent. Reto was well prepared and well organized and shared some very valuable tips and techniques with us. Some of the techniques - especially how to handle a knife - will be useful in general. The service during the dinner and the food were excellent. However, we were quoted a price with tax and we were mislead. After the event we were given a different bill $150 more than what we were told was our final because one of their staff made an error in the quote which is no fault of ours. I pointed this out and it was handled poorly as we were still told we were responsible for the charges. That is poor customer service and we will not be using their services again because we do not like hidden charges. read more

Chef Reto is a most amazing chef. He hosted an Ethnosh Garden Party this evening at the beautiful Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast. The food was incredible! Each "wave" of tastings were well composed and presented. We enjoyed various tastings that included gruyere puffs, shrimp, mini burgers, lamb, pork and olive tapenade, tomato on bacon fried toast, cremè brûlée and chocolate mousse in chocolate cups. I just moved to Greensboro and I stumbled across this restaurant. I had the Lamb Sausage pressed sandwich. I believe it was called "Mergus" not sure if that is the correct spelling but it was delicious. The owner and Chef (Reto) is there along with his staff. All of which are very very friendly and helpful. From my understanding they mostly do take out and catering. They do offer classes if that's something your looking to do. So if you want something cooked fresh that pleases the taste buds this is a great place to try. read more

Reto's catered a business event for me recently. Everything was as near to perfect as it could get. The planning process was smooth. They were all courteous and helpful. Last minute changes were taken care of. The set up was beautiful and timely, with no effort on my part. The food was delicious and everyone raved about it. It was also very affordable. Reto's is the absolute best! I have had several functions which were flawless on several levels. For a pre-show party with heavy hors d'oeuvres, Reto the chef and his assistant cooked and then served on-site. This made the party so festive and fun. Reto has this beautiful French accent and effervescent personality which is unparalleled. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It made entertaining effortless and made me look like a great hostess. I have had Reto do the food with an Indian theme for a book club meeting. He was a master at creating the Indian cuisine (that I found from his many appetizers) and again the presentation was gorgeous and the flavors great! I always buy Reto's Home Cuisine meals to go. When I get organized, I order for the week. His black bean cakes with salsa as well as his crab cakes are a real hit with my family and I always need to buy extra. His lentil soup is one of my husband's favorite. Everything is packaged perfectly and goes from the refrigerator to the stove with directions that are easy. Makes thinking about and serving dinner more fun!! Today, I picked up from Reto's some appetizers and food his staff prepared for a small Superbowl party for tomorrow. I had given Reto a very loose recipe for my mother's special potato salad in hope's that he could recreate it. I had given up my ever doing it correctly because I always ended up with too much or not enough onion. I just sampled it and felt like the food critic in the movie, Ratatouille.
