So I have not been to the store in over a year and half. My how things have changed. They really dont have a variety of box lunches like they used too. Lady was rather not really rude but rather snobby. For a chicken salad croissant sandwich, fruit, potato salad and a brownie and i got a can Dr. Pepper almost 13.00 dollars. So I recently just started a gig as a stay at home house husband with 5 kids. And let me tell you what.... It way harder than I thought. So figured we'll let's be smart about this Brandon l, let's delegate all these harder tasks to other people. (Just for context my wife is loaded). I decided that I can go pick up a fresh home cooked meal before my wife gets home from work and claim it as mine. So that's exactly what I did and damn if it didn't backfire on me. My wife pulls down our 1.3 mile paved driveway and I prepared the table during the entire 3 minutes it takes for her to reach the house. She walks in as usually "honey Im home" and just as usually I have a feast of a dinner waiting on her. Except this time I didn't have to slave away all day making it. This is going perfect!!!... I had bought 2 of the Moravian chicken pies and some broccoli. You could almost see the steam coming off the top. "She's gonna think she's married to Gordon Ramsey" I was thinking to myself. That was until she took a bite. It was horrible. The chicken looks and tastes like it came from a tuna can and the pie looked like a soup. The crust tasted bland and possibly gluten free. None of the kids would eat it. Not even our French Bulldog Willy. I obviously couldn't claim this as mine or else I risk having to go back to the 9-5. So I admitted I bought it. She got enraged and needless to say I'll be in the dog house for quite some time. This place almost costed me my married. read more

This was possibly the worst example of a Moravian chicken pie I have seen. I purchased frozen and cooked to take to a friend with a meal. One of my favorite places to go for Moravian pies. I purchased a couple of groupons a while back and figure it would be an easy dinner as I'm starting to to get tired of cooking while sheltering in place. Got there Saturday morning and had fast, helpful, friendly service. It seems like they are staying busy especially on Friday/Saturday so getting their early is key to getting everything you might be craving. The family meal is our go to. The salad is very green and fresh and can last a couple of days in the fridge in the take and bake pie is delicious. I always make the pie, baguette, and salad and save the side dish for another night because the pie is more than enough for my family of three. For the first time I did purchase a quiche so I'm looking forward to trying that. Who can pass on a $12 quiche!!???! read more

L-L-LOVE their Pecan Tarts! Probably went there 2-3 times a week during my lunch break! Plus most of the cake squares are $1 a piece and made fresh daily. Good flavors too like Pink Lemonade, Banana Pudding, Peach etc. The Lemon Lush squares are pretty good too. Update: 2nd meal- Chicken Noodle Soup. Another grotesque meal. Absolutely no flavor/seasoning, minced chicken and those horrible big sliced crinkled carrots from the grocer's freezer. Had to force the serving down it was so horrible, and the rest went in the trash! 3rd meal- Beef Stew looked like mushy Alpo Dog Food. Consisted of frozen crinkle carrots, frozen peas. potatoes and absolutely no meat (just mush)! I think again like they prepare the chicken, the meat was pureed in a food processor. I messaged the owner on the website about my complaint and was ignored so I had to call. He would not let me return over $140.00 spent on the inedible food but finally said he could give me a store credit of $50. Make it make sense when you can't eat the horrible food why would I want any more of it! Also, he only responded to THIS review AFTER I had to call him. There was absolutely no resolution reached. Just warning others please don't waste your money! With inflation prices I was looking for the best alternatives to feed my family. As a 1st time customer, I bought a lot of pre-made main dishes and vegetables. I cannot even describe how horrific the 1st meal I tried was. It was a family size chicken tetrazzini. The 1st bite was nothing short of grotesque. It consisted of watery spaghetti noodles, minced chicken on top of the noodles and a small hint of cheese on top that did not melt. It was not decadent and creamy-(no creamy sauce, bread crumbs or sherry) and absolutely ZERO seasoning. I had to literally add butter, cheese and salt to even stomach it and it was still disgusting! I am ashamed that I wasted so much money on meals if this is my 1st indication of what the rest of the food is going to taste like. We ordered their chicken pot pie once and they were bland and not tasty. We feel that even the Costco chicken pot pies were way better and at a better price. Also our company had a catered event from them and the food was not hot at all. Room temperature was more like it. The prepared food tasted not fresh like it was prepared the day before or way earlier in the day before our event time. Many of us were afraid to eat the catered food due to us thinking we may get food poisoning. I sure hope our company decides not to go with this place again. read more

I've tried just about everything and love most but was sorely disappointed when I took home an entree of Turkey Tetrazzini. It ended up in the trash. It had absolutely no seasoning and consisted of a layer of spaghetti noodles topped with a layer of shredded turkey and mozzarella cheese. Absolutely great comfort food. The chicken pot pie here is by far my favorite thing. The deserts I've tried are all delicious as well. A few things are admittedly hit or miss for straight flavor. Essentially, I feel a lot of the food is prepared fairly safe and less heavily seasoned that we are generally used to. That really plays well for things like the pot pie or macaroni and cheese that additional spices and flavoring only serves to dull the unique characteristic of the natural flavors. However when it comes to some of the other dishes I've had, it can seem very plain. That's no problem to me, as for dishes you take to bake at home, it's very easy to add a bit of additional seasoning to taste. Even in cases of the pot pie, if isn't enough for you, you can simply add some salt after baking if that's your preference. But the real message of the place seems to be "comfort food". Which doesn't go with heavily spiced. So it's not surprising to have the flavors a little more muted compared to typical restaurants. And especially compared to grocery store instant meals that rely on high seasoning to cover up the cheap, frozen quality. Maybe that sub not for everyone, even though you're free to add spice as you desire. But hopefully this gives you an idea of what you can expect in advance. read more

The company is owned by a couple, who are THE nicest people I have ever met. They were efficient and the breakfast- complete with sugar cake and the best grits I've ever had, is still being talked about 3 days later! My wife brought several pot pies home. She knows I love pot pies & she doesnt make them. The chicken pot pie is good certainly not great. The crust is the bright spot. However it was underwhelming flavor wise & a bit dry for my liking. I usually like a bit more gravy or whatever it is in pot pies. It could use a bit more seasoning also. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It is my first visit here and I ordered the grilled chicken/sun dried tomato wrap. It was THE BEST wrap I has in quite some time. From where I was sitting I could see the back of the house and the floors were extremely clean. I saw some employees in the back and they were not using hair nets, but then again I do not know if they were the food handlers. The staff is very pleasant. We've had lunch catered from Mrs. Pumpkins before - great little lunch boxes that include a sammich or salad, dessert and a side. YUM. We also look out for groupon deals where you get a full meal - entree (usually baked spaghetti or chicken pie), salad, bread, sweet tea for really good deal. They also have similar deals without the coupon specials, just ask. Lots of other options for frozen entrees to take home and heat up. Not exactly a place you can go in and pick up lunch to eat right on the spot. Check out the cookies, bars, and cake squares as well! Husby loves their oatmeal whoopie pies. I have been aware of Mrs. Pumpkins for quite a few years because of the Groupons, but because it's clear across town for me, I'd never eaten their wares. Earlier this week, Roy and I attended the Opening Ceremony for the local Senior Games which was held at Calvary Baptist Church and catered by Mrs. Pumpkins. Wow! What a delicious buffet! We thought everything was delicious - from the crispy baked chicken breasts, sliced pork roast, Mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans, love feast-type dinner rolls to the cheese cake, chocolate layer cake and carrot cake. I'm pretty sure I tasted some of everything! They prepared this feast for about 300 people, but the food didn't appear or taste like institutional food at all. There was a salad, tea, loaf of bread, I chose the chicken tetrazzini and scallopped potato. both dishes tasted the same. bland watery and flavorless. The chicken was seriously overdry before I even baked it for heating. it really had no flavor. the potatoes were the exact same. watery and flavorless. The bagged salad would not feed 4 and was FILLED with water, it was all limp and floppy. so I wouldnt get that again either. My friends all really liked it but personally I had an Italian sub and I don't really like salami so I didn't really love it. also the side was fresh fruit and I don't like fruit. This review is strictly praising the service. I live out of state in Texas and I wanted to surprise a friend that lives near the bakery with a birthday cake. The staff was patient and helpful, answering all my questions and concerns and even went out of their way to send me a picture of the final product and it looked absolutely fantastic (especially considering my special requests). I used Mrs. Pumpkin's bakery for my wedding cake. It was beautiful and delicious! Everyone at the wedding commented on how great it tasted. I was 100% satisfied. She gets 5 stars! I was going to use the catering division for my reception. I found Don McEwan extremely unprofessional and very difficult to work with. So much so that 4 weeks before my wedding I decided to go with a different caterer for my dinner. I have never dealt with someone in the service industry that was so rude. I visited this bakery for the 2nd time today. Both times by two different employees, I was treated as if I was disturbing them. I wanted to order a cake for husbands bday & was quoted $25 the 1st time & $20 today & I had to provide the pic. When the clerk saw that the movie character pic logo depicted a gun she immediately said the man who would be making it could not do that part of it. I stated it was an important part of the pic and didn't understand why it couldnt be done. She said she would check with him and call me back. She called back to tell me it could be done, but now it would be $60! I personally believe this was an anti-gun, anti-2nd amendment of this retailer . I ordered a cake,Wizard of OZ to be exact, I showed the lady who would be making The cake in the store a picture of what I wanted, which had ruby red slippers on it at that time she stated I do not have the red shoes I will have to try to make them, I also emailed her the picture of the cake that day as she requested, after that day a couple emails were sent to each other confirming flavor of the cake ,icing, and pick up time. Never once was it mentioned that she was unable to do the ruby red slippers. Lo and behold pick up time and there's no ruby red slippers on top of the cake! as I question this to one of the sales associates ringing me up , she said there is nothing on the paper about red slippers, I explained that I spoke with the lady the day I ordered it and the conversation we had and also the picture that I emailed,she said "hold on let me go ask her"The associate returns not even the lady who made the cake who you would think would come and speak with a person she had miscommunication with, and the response was "she said she made it clear that there would be no shoes" um ok CLEARLY NOT... no apology and you would think she would come and clear things up herself, not to mention price was higher then advertised on website, considered leaving without cake but I am a KARMA believer... i just made my own ruby slippers and will be passing along this experience with others to prevent future crappy customer service recommending LILLY CAKES in King NC to anyone who prefers a prettier cake at a lower price made by nicer people read more
