The Lodge is the most private hotel option in Sea Island. The Cloister is the largest property and if you are looking for quiet and reserved, The Lodge is the place. It is a 5 star hotel and has under 50 rooms (43 to be exact). The lobby is gorgeous with dark wooden fixtures, carpets and comfortable couches. We were there in December and the Christmas trees were decorated beautifully. As soon as you arrive at The Lodge, you are welcomed by name and escorted to your room by a butler. I loved the European feel of the Lodge and each room was made to look like a room in a European castle. The artwork reminded me of Belgium and so did the heavy wood. The intent was to look like an English manor, even though it was actually built early in the 20th century. As you enter your room, your have a walk in area with wet bar, Nespresso machine, ironing board that pulls down from the closet and closet area. The bathroom is then also off of the main entryway and has dual sinks, classic metal handles and a pedestol tub. The shower was a huge walk-in shower made of marble and the handles reminded me of something from London in the early 1900's. The toiletries are by Milton Brown. As you then step into your bedoom, the Lodge will cleverly put on the Golf channel during turn-down service at night. Cookies are also part of the nightly service. The bed was very comfortable and I really enjoyed the patio with chairs that overlooked the water. It was all very peaceful and serene. The sitting area in the room was also nice and there was a big desk to work. The ceilings are made of wooden beams and add elevation to the room. I did feel like I was staying in another country and truly loved my stay. Each night around 5pm, a bagpiper marches up the field in front of the patio of the Lodge. You can sit on an Adirondack chair and listen and have an evening cocktail as the sun sets. Dining: There is the Oak Room which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Colt and Alison is the high end steakhouse serving dinner with a view of the golf greens. We had a fantastic meal here and Chef Danny is very talented. We also enjoyed breakfast and lunch in the Oak Room. Another interesting tidbit I learned is that you can take one of the BMW 750 series that is parked in the front of the Lodge and drive it over to the Cloister and other part of the hotel. The goal is to get you to test drive and this has turned out to be very profitable for this BMW dealer. I did not get a chance to make it to the Cloister and would like to go next time. The staff was amazing and the service everywhere was excellent. There is also a little gift pro shop with golf wear, souvenirs and high end sunglasses and apparel for sale. I highly recommend this resort for a quiet getaway and Southern hospitality. read more

I play golf here several times a year, for business and the Lodge really knows service. From the assistance at the bag drop, to the men who wait on you in the gentlemen's lounge they are committed to making this a wonderful experience. One of the things I enjoy is that they do it in a way that is not overly pretentious or "stuffy". I really enjoy the restaurants on site and the food is exceptionally tasty. Of the three golf courses, I found the Seaside course too hard for my strictly amateur game. They play the McGladry Open on this course and it poses problems for pros too. The Retreat course is designed by Davis Love and is challenging, but very enjoyable and pristine. However for me, the Plantation course is both beautiful, playable and in amazing condition. In fact, Plantation may be my one of my top two courses that I have ever played. Saying it is playable is not saying it is not challenging, it has plenty of challenges for those who want to "go for it", and plenty for those who don't mind "laying up". So I cannot comment on the rooms, but I am sure they are as nice as the rest of the property. read more

We were recommended this restaurant upon making reservations to stay at the Cloisters. On the night of our anniversary dinner which was booked and taken care of months ahead we were excited to try Colt & Alison for a wonderful celebratory elegant dinner. We drove 10 minutes from the main cloisters building and we're impressed with the warm inviting feel of the lodge upon entering. The sound of live piano entertainment was setting a nice mood. We were dressed to impress looking sharp and sleek. At the hostess desk was a pretty young lady welcoming us with a big smile. She said congratulations on our anniversary and we were promptly seated. Our waiter was really nice and informative with excellent wine and appetizer suggestions. We received our delish flavorful red and shrimp that was excellent. ....and then comes over the Manager with an ugly blue jacket. He begins like this. " sir could you please get up and put this jacket on, I tried to guess your size and I think this will fit. You are required to wear a jacket while in this restaurant and to get in." I look around me, perhaps maybe 5 people are actually wearing a jacket the rest of the 90% has it resting on the back of their chairs as it is Hot in here. We were absolutely floored by how rude, inconsiderate he was. When we made the reservation and upon arrival, no one at any time has explained this to us, no one through the months after I made this reservation has mentioned once. " since it's your first time.. you should know it's not just dressy but in fact is Jacket Required". Not at Reservation, Not at the hostess desk. The manager felt that it was ok that after we already got our drinks it was appropriate to make my husband stand up a front of the whole restaurant and place an ugly blue jacket over his silk Perry Ellis shirt. By this, drawing attention to our table, having everyone stare at us and talk about this incident. He didn't just ruin our anniversary dinner but disturbed everyone else's as well. I'm looking around and I see women and men less than dressy around me which also made me more and more angry as I'm sitting there. Clearly rules don't apply to just everyone. Diagonally a women sitting in a dress that looks like a bikini cover up with a jean jacket, yes jean like blue wash jean, the men wearing dockers and button down. Here we are dressed up, he is in a Perry Ellis silk shirt and pants and I'm wearing a 350$ bcbg dress that I was so excited to wear bought for this very night! As we are classier than the manager, we didn't make a scene. I really nicely asked our waiter for the check as the night is now ruined, and I wanted to get out of there before my husband let's It all sink in and gets the manager fired. I tipped our waiter well above 40% on our check as this was not his fault, he lost a table and I got out of there I fast I could angry and frustrated. In the 10 minute drive back to the Main Cloisters I only had time to reflect on what just happened. I was a server for 13 years in my younger age and the upscale places I've worked it would never make a well dressed couple stand up after they already have been served specially on their anniversary dinner. Even if it's jacket required I probably if I absolutely had to and my job depended on it would have just put a jacket on the back of his chair so he wouldn't even notice and bought a table a round of wine if he did. Thankfully Tavola at the main cloisters have more than made up for our bad time with excellent food and service. The night was saved, but Colt & Alison left a bad taste in my mouth regarding the managment. You can't be an upscale place if you have No class. read more

This place is just so fine. I loved the scene and the ambience. We had drinks on the lawn with in front of the ocean. Kennedy (the cool one) was dead before I was born, but I've heard enough and seen enough to feel that if I ever had a Kennedy moment this was it. When a young family went running through the field with a little boy and girl, and a bagpiper was blowing out tunes, it was inspirational. Made me really glad to be living in America. Opulence and wealth can cause envy or greed, but it can also cause inspiration, ambition and a return to focus on goals, financial stability, and the importance of making sacrifices in order to earn and achieve a legacy. 24 hour butler service! Need I say more? Ok, I will. Upon arriving at the Lodge, we were immediately greeted by our butler. I am guessing the front gate notified him of our arrival as he addressed us by our names. The Lodge is an impressive and attractive building with equally impressive and verdant lawns. It's more private that the Cloister and the Beach Club area as it is secluded from the other two Sea Island Resorts properties. The Lodge is also host to the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic. The style and decor of the Lodge is classic, down to the bathtubs and the showers. It is furnished with rich, dark woods and leathers and warm lighting. It is true, the Lodge is "reminiscent of an Old English country manor", right down to the scent. I love the Molton Brown shower products, which is so fitting with the atmosphere of the Lodge. This highlights one of the ways the Lodge ( and Sea Island Resorts) really pays attention to details to offer an excellent resort experience. Our butler also brought us milk and warm cookies before bedtime. Talk about being spoiled. We were also offered complimentary house slippers. We visited the Lodge during 4th of July weekend and they were hosting a fair on their lawns. The entrance fee was $60 per an adult, but included unlimited foods, which included fried chickens, sausages, fried foods, desserts, etc. There are also fair activities for the children. You have beach access from the Lodge as well. Although the beach was not very conducive to swimming. However, staying at the Lodge provided us with a spectacular view of fireworks from St. Simon's Island as well as Brunswick and Jekyll Island. The fireworks from St. Simon's island seemed most impressive. We were at the St. Simon's Island pier earlier in the day and it was packed. It seemed like people came very very early to snag a spot on the small pier for the fireworks show. So it was a good thing we were at the Lodge to view the fireworks. The lawns were spacious and made for a more comfortable experience. We ate the Oak Room for a quick, late lunch one day. The ambience is nice but the food was standard and pricey. We did not try Colt and Alison, though. It's the fine dining restaurant inside the Lodge. Overall, the employees at the Lodge were very friendly and provided excellent and exceptional service. read more

This place is so old world classic beauty with the best service I have seen in quite a while. Everyone is so kind and must communicate on their tiny eat your radios well because everywhere I walked everybody addressed me by name. So very thoughtful and had so many amazing classic traditions. Whether it was the bagpiper walking down the golf course between 6 and 7 PM every evening, having warm cookies and milk delivered at bedtime, the shooting clinic and well appointed rooms with gorgeous views of the golf course and water beyond. Everything here is top notch. Attended a small business meeting for several days at The Lodge. Great for corporate retreats, golf weekend, or just about anything else. If you don't play golf you won't get the same benefit from this place as you would otherwise, but it is one of the top hotels in the USA anyway you look at it. Yes, the prices are aligned with their quality. The only complaint (which they fixed) - the conference rooms have lousy chairs. For a place this high-end I expect high back chairs with adjustable height and other basic controls. The chairs they had were hard to sit on for more than an hour or so. read more

Oak Room Restaurant at the Lodge was a HUGE disappointment. The service was stellar, but they ended up comping all four of our meals. They all came out cold. The server replaced them with barely warmer meals. That said, the Shrimp and Grits were very good. The Meatloaf was mediocre. The staff at the Cloisters RAVED about this restaurant, so we were very surprised at the quality of the food. read more
