Unfortunately for us when we went the wind was so incredibly wicked it was like an getting assaulted by the beach the second we walked onto open sand and it whisked my sons bucket down the shoreline which was tricky to get back lol so we didn't last long lol if the weather was better I imagine we could spend a day there. Bring a lunch and when you're ready go shower clean up eat and let the kids play at the park!

It has some facilities and there are picnic tables, but this is also the kind of island that has a lot of mosquitos so I would be heading towards the beach. This area has some inland water that is apparently permanent enough that they've put pontoon bridges over it, which is kind of cool. The beach here is a little bit wider than on other nearby areas, so the tide is not forcing you to literally sit on a dune and you can walk around the surf fishers. So it is a decent ocean beach, if still on the crowded side.

The pier-ish area on the water isn't suited to fishing and the water is too dirty anyway. There are no safety rails adequate for children, and it's a place to walk at your own risk. The playground is okay as something for kids to do. There isn't much shade nor comfortable places for parents to watch. The large pavilion used for the farmers market is a field away from the playground so it's no use for parents. We attended an Easter event post-Ahmaud Arbery's death, during the Biden administration, and it felt truly diverse and positive for all. Recently, we attended the NYE Shrimp Drop during the Trump administration and it felt like a redneck fest with a creepy backwoods white band, and Trumpy-looking scary white people all over with sour faces. There was no sign of the shrimp nor promised bounce houses. Very few people were there, and NONE were non-white. It felt like Deliverance and we got the he!! out! Could not have been more repulsed. The park is a community facility. Local government should have a better grip on these "community" events, especially after their scandalous reputation for having DA Jackie Johnson enabling all the dirty southern racists who crawl out from under their local rocks around here!

Brunswick is an industrial kind of town, so this park is not a major feature. It's one good-sized…read moreblock embedded between shipyards and such. Parking was ample, but shade was not. There is a playground and a waterfront promenade. The crowd was sparse and a tad sketch. There are a handful of local businesses you could walk to on the town's main stretch. Having said all that, there are some rather spectacular waterfront areas not far away, so anyone seeking a view may have better luck elsewhere.

A Special Visitor at the St. Simons Pier This Morning…read more MoonPie and I were at the pier this morning when an angler accidentally caught a sea turtle. Thankfully, the turtle was handled carefully, the hook was removed, and it was released back into the ocean where it belongs. It swam away strong, which was mighty good to see. You never know what you'll witness at the St. Simons Pier. One minute MoonPie is visiting with everybody walking by, and the next minute we're watching a sea turtle get a second chance. The beach at South Dunes is absolutely amazing offering expansive views of the ocean as well as the…read morenorth end of little Cumberland Island. A great place to relax, shell, or dip your feet in the tidal pools. From South Dunes Beach we made it to almost Glory Beach. During our walks southward to Glory Beach on the three days while on Jekyll Island, we noticed at least 60-70 turtles nests as well as conservation volunteers, patrolling, tracking, documenting and monitoring the nests. We even had the privilege of seeing the little hatchlings getting released..

It's got a lot of stairs and the stars to the beach are completely covered in sand which made it very dangerous to get down. There are public restrooms, grills, and picnic tables. There are a lot of alligators because outdoors fee them right next to the sign that clearly says not to. This angered me because it's a hazard to the animals and the people who come here and there is NO DNR, ranger or police information anywhere to report this behavior. I even confronted the idiots and told them how stupid they were. Total low life losers. Keep your kids clear away from the water because they come straight to any person they see.

The beach had two significant problems going for it: first, the tides run right up to the dunes so it's hard to go anywhere at high tide, and second the surf fishers make it tough to walk. I ran into a line in the dark where I could even see that a pole had been set up. It boggles my mind that these things are legal in places where people walk and swim. The beach itself was a decent quality, if not world-beating affair. It was just more crowded and less easy to enjoy than I'd hoped.

My dog had a BLAST! It's always awesome when my dog can roam freely. Very clean bathrooms and tons of showers to wash off, even low enough for the dog. Ample parking, but this beach gets PACKED! Probably one of the most packed beaches I've been to in the golden isles. Everyone was nice and friendly, and my dog had tons of dog friends to play with.

Why the great review?…read more Besides being off the beaten path (south along the beach road to the Soccer Field Signs), it's the most accessible. Parking was a breeze. A small lot right by the boardwalk. And not that many people parked there when we went. The boardwalk itself has no steps. It's wide (you could easily take a wheelchair or a stroller here) and it is fairly level. Most other beaches on island require a painful trek up some wooden steps, then a long hot walk over a wooden boardwalk over the dunes, and then a steep stairway down to the beach. And another long walk to the water. We were ecstatic when we saw this. Only later did we read that the reason the walkway is so wide and smooth was that it was a shooting location for the film, Glory (1989). The walkway was built so that all the movie crew equipment could be easily transported. We easily made the walk over the dunes and pools to the beach. Kicking off our shoes (we weren't in beach attire), we strolled to the water's edge and up and down the beach collecting a few shells and enjoying the cool water. So, even though there are no facilities here, this was our favorite beach of all that we visited while we were here.

This place is about a mile South past the Hampton Inn, and you turn left into the complex. Look for the Jekyll Island soccer complex sign. When you turn in, there will be a soccer field on the left and right side of the road. At the end of the road is the boardwalk, and a small parking area. According to what I read, the producers of the movie built the boardwalk to transport equipment out to the beach, where the final scene (attack of Fort Wagner) was filmed. Very calm and peaceful place. No facilities that I noticed.

Near the sandbar the water gets deep fast so if you have littles or inexperienced swimmers walk further down to set up. We went during low tide and we were able to pretty much walk all the way out to the middle of the ocean with the water at our knees in most parts. The wind was a little gusty the day we went so bring something to hold down the beach towels so they don't fly away while you're frolicking in the water! Lol! Honestly I've seen better beaches on the shores of a freshwater lake, but it is a beach so how bad can it be right? Well I absolutely love the ocean but a prerequisite of loving a beach for me is a short list, but these things that are important to me. If I stand in the ocean where the water barely reaches my ankle bone I want to be able to count my toes. As much as I love oysters, I'm not a fan of a beach that looks like an oyster bed on steroids. If the sand on the beach is the color of dirt because the dirt / sand ratio can be measured I don't want my toes in the water or my ass in the sand. Oh I don't mean to be so harsh, this is a beach I highly recommend for those of you visiting Florida, it's a great beach and I hope you enjoy your time here wink wink...
