The gym is clean and has a bunch of new working machines and equipment, but it is not female-friendly. There is one hook for a towel and nothing else in the showers, so you'd need to put your clothes on the ground; gym and clean ones. There are no benches or garbage cans in the shower areas either, so you'd need to use the garbage can over by the entrance to the locker room if you need one. There's one tiny aircon hairdryer for the entire locker room, and if you have any kind of thick hair, it's not going to work at all. I've gone to multiple Retro Fitness locations and the one in Pearl River, NY is the worst! Owen, a gym employee, is a complete jerk and has turned me off from supporting this establishment in the future. When my son and I were attempting to check-in to the gym, Owen claimed that he couldn't see my sons information after the info was entered twice. I was of the impression that Owen was trying to be a wise guy and seemed to find humor in the micro aggressive behaviors that were directed toward myself and my son by delaying our entry to the gym. When I asked for a manager, Owen said the manager was not there. How is that? Who's running the business if there's no manager on site? I had to finally tell Owen that we are going to start our workout and did not intend to be further delayed. If Owen is incapable of doing his job correctly, he should not continue to be employed. read more

This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experience in a gym ever. I tried to cancel my membership and was told in person that there would be a 60 day notice and that I would have to pay the annual fees. Fine. But then I receive a phone call two days later from the manager stating that I am still under contract and that the employee that cancelled my agreement was mistaken. Whether or not the employee made a mistake, I was told in person that I was "all set" and that my August 2018 my agreement would be over. That should be granted as it was said to me by a gym employee who cancelled my account. The most infuriating part is that these gyms, although they are a chain, are all independently run and they could cancel my membership but are just choosing not to. I only chose this gym because it is close to my house. There are many gyms nearby that are on par in terms of price and have MUCH better custom e service. New York Sports club and 24 hour fitness to name a few. Every gym has a cancellation fee. That's expected. But to not allow cancellation is absurd. And to not honor a cancellation that was performed by an employee is just ridiculous. They only offered suspending my membership for $5 a month which is pointless because the suspended months would just be added to the agreement. My advice- stay clear read more

Watch out guys, this gym supports Roid Rage by their members on unsuspecting neighbors in the community. One of the guys jacked up on roid rage charged at me with him 250lb muscles and I told them about it after reporting it to the police. But it seems that they haven't done anything about it yet. If you are a young girl who goes to this gym or a women under 150lbs, I would caution you to tread lightly because roid rage is no joke. These people are under the "influence" of extreme rage. All they did was verify my name was correct with my id. Not take a full face photo to keep in their database just because I chose to use their free workout session. Stop treating potential customers like criminals. It's weird. Word of advice : Listen guys, gyms are getting super greedy these days . So don't go over to 24 hour fitness in nanuet thinking they are better. They are not. Just check out their reviews also. I would say get out , get some fresh air. You are living in NY . There are tons of beautiful parks out there to enjoy and for workout. Don't get locked in a gym with smelly arm pits and people who don't care about your well being. Who knows maybe you will even meet nicer people when you are outside. I don't wanna be giving business advice, but I would suggest that the management be more lenient with customer and don't talk to them with a scarcity mentality especially with membership fees and such. Nice clean gym with lots of equipment and very rarely gets over-crowded. Employees are friendly and helpful as well. You can't beat the membership price, and it's much nicer than Planet Fitness in Spring Valley, (which is the closest location for Pearl River residents) and has nicer amenities for basically the same price. read more

The gym is clean and well equipped. Knowledgable and helpful trainers (ask for James) and convenient hours of operation. They're open until 11pm each week night and 7pm on weekends. They have most things you would want (I'd love to see a power rack) including kettlebells, multiple squat racks, battle ropes, a sled, and lots of cardio equipment. For $20 a month you really can't get any better. read more

We cancelled the contract almost two years ago. Have not heard anything from Retro Fitness until we received a bill today from a debt collector. Apparently someone, reopened our account and tried charging my Amex since March. When I disputed the charge Amex refunded me and declined all future transactions from Retro. When I called they said someone has been clocking in and out under our name. Waiting to meet with the Manager. Will keep you posted. read more

I hate gyms but not this one!! Everyone I've dealt with is so friendly and accommodating. The team training program is a great program for people like me who get bored of the ordinary "gym workout". I've taken classes with myles, Angela, and Phil and each trainer is different but one thing remains the same and that's the amazing workout routine each of them design. Love this gym! Plenty of machines, you never have to wait to use. Very very clean. The staff are all very friendly and helpful if you have any questions. Great variety of equipment and tons of space. Love that you can watch tv while on the cardio machines! My experience at the Retro Fitness in Pearl River was amazing. I trained with Tom for three years and he was able to boost my confidence and help me achieve my fitness goals. I would have continued both my membership and my personal training sessions if I did not move to another state. I was nervous about cancelling my membership due to past things I have read online. However, the Retro Fitness in Pearl River was more than accommodating and were able to complete the cancellation with no issues whatsoever. I highly recommend this gym to everyone! read more

The worst customer service! I absolutely do not recommend. You cannot get a spot in the classes unless you register. I registered late, got a spot confirmation email and I go to the class. I was questioned outside the class in front of everyone if I have registered to go into the class. And asked rudely to show the email confirmation and blamed for going into the class some other day without registering( which never happened). There is a way to talk privately. When complained to Manager. He supports his employee rather than supporting the customer. He says he is doing his duty. They do not care about the customers. I am stuck for an year.
