OK, I know I am anal, picky and just plain hard to please... I don't spend much time writing reviews, you get what you pay for and what you are going to read is as honest as it can be. In regard to having fences built, its about as exciting as paying income taxes. There is no such thing as a large job going smoothly the entire time, but when a snag appears, the ability to solve the problem and find the right solution is worth its weight in gold. Fence companies build fences, if you want a cheap fence, you will get one, if you want a great fence, know what you want, do your homework and spec out what you want. Then you find the company that will build it your way. I built a great fence, one that will outlive me, its beautiful, its strong and it was built the right way. Both have the same last name, Borg... You better get this one right because they are as different as they come. Borg Fence Company and Reuben Borg Fence Company Borg Fence Co: Trashed my yard. Did it their way and it sucked. Fence #1 (83") lasted 7 years and down she came. Fence #2 (65') started to sag at the lattice top and I had it just plain torn down after 3 years. Just plain a waste of time, money and aggravation. In their defense, I didn't spec out those fences to my current specs but come on trash my yard, told them I didn't want it done in the rain, so they did it in the rain. I accept full responsibility for hiring Borg Fence Company but that will never happen again. Sorry Borg Fence but actions speak louder than words, and I am just being honest. Reuben Borg Fence Company When you shake Reuben Borg's hand, you know he works for a living. You are dealing with the owner, not a company estimator. There is no smoke and mirrors, no BS, if you know what you want, he will build it that way, if you don't, he knows fences and he will help you build a fence to your budget. His prices are very completive, his materials are second to none and his crew great to be around.. Change orders are never a problem because different situations arise. I really enjoyed being around his crew because I can't leave well enough alone. In regard to his crew... Raul and Moses really stand out. They really try to please you, remember I am a pain in the ass. Actually his entire crew was always accommodating and if I knew their names I would of referenced them also. Good language interaction because I'm the idiot by not speaking Spanish, imagine that men that work for a living learned both English and Spanish and the dummy homeowner can only speak English. Frankly I respect that. Crew worked with me, not around me and when issues can about they handled them without having to be asked twice. Just plain good men that work well together and work hard and are welcome in my home anytime~ Bottom line for the first time in my life I am happy with my new fence. My fence was a large job, try to remember this because it is so true. If you build a fence to last, it will and you will do it once. If you build to cut corners, you are just buying time and over time you will pay more doing it the least expensive way. My 5 star rating was earned, not given... This was an outstanding job~ Negative's: Reuben needs a personal assistant to field phone calls and return them. Nice to know information and need to know information would be very helpful to a guy running a company that's busy. The fence is a little unusual but beautifully designed with our original idea in a medieval Gothic appeal. Idea itself is not enough. Together with a team of fence experts, our home now becomes our castle. The contents below are proof of a five-star review: CONSULTATION The estimator/designer was courteous and pleasant. He measured our property accurately. He listened carefully to our idea, design and desired style. He made sound recommendations. He explained the pricing, materials to be used, estimated timing to complete, and the whole process step by step. He put down clear instructions and layout of our new fence on the contract. He is diligent, experienced and detail-oriented. DESIGN AND PLANNING The new fence is simple but with a lot of WOW factors. The design is an old world medieval Gothic style fence. It complements our existing front fence and custom Gothic gate. The plan suggested 7-foot tall fence boards, 7-1/2-foot fence posts each slightly mitered at the reveal, and a Gothic finial on top of every fence post. That fools the eyes as an 8-foot soaring fence. The fence boards are clear solid redwood with no knotholes. They also used three-horizontal 2x4 for stronger structural support of the fence boards on each section. INSTALLATION The foreman confirmed with us the proper procedure and the contract instructions. He obtained our final approval of the arrangement before starting the job. The crew worked diligently with us and management through the entire process. They made sure they built according to our specifications. In fact, the crew members have keen eyes, cunning skills and excellent craftsmanship. The foreman and the installers have great ingenuity and superb carpentry expertise. They do their job with passion. COMPLETION The owner, Mr. Reuben Borg came to the job site and inspected the new fence thoroughly. He made a few minor suggestions to us and instructed the foreman and the workmen to expedite the adjustment. He ensured the fence was installed to perfection. He handled our fence project seriously. Mr. Borg also offered us help to acquire and install the desired fence post finials. WALK-THROUGH We did a detailed walk-through inspection of the new fence and the job site with the foreman and the installers. They made a final slight improvement to perfect the fence as we suggested. Our new castle fence looks amazing and majestic. SEALING AND CLEAN UP The crew sprayed on high quality sealer to protect the wood for longevity. The oil sealer has a lovely organic colour. It enhances the natural beauty of the wood. It is elegant and adds a wonderful sheen to the new fence. Last, the crew removed all fallen nails and debris, and cleaned up the job site to the highest safety standards. We recently used Reuben Borg Fence to install a considerable amount of fencing on our property in Danville. As this was a very extensive project and high profile (surrounding our pool area that we use everyday as well as viewable from the street) we knew going into this project that our needs were varied (deer fence, decorative fence that provides privacy etc..). It was very important that we make the right decision not only in regards to the style, but the contractor as well. We definitely were looking for professional guidance as the fences we were taking down were 25 years old and part of our property is sloped. Enter Reuben who surveyed our property, listened carefully to our needs and desires and then drew on his extensive expertise to make suggestions. Reuben gave us excellent advice on how to deal with our sloping yard and install a deer fence that would last for years to come. He had several great ideas for the decorative fence that we wanted built along the driveway, knowing that it was critical that it provide not only much needed privacy, but look beautiful as well. Reuben was innovative in his design and came up with a great, workable plan. Beckie D Hayward Ca Rueben Borg Fence company built a 384' fence on a steep slope for me and i am extremely pleased and grateful with their workmanship, their professionalism, kindness, timeliness, and pride and dedication to their work. I took 4 estimates and the other three companies did not measure the lenght of the slope because it was steep and a little wet. They estimated 400' . Moses took his measuring device and started down the hill and I asked him if he was sure he wanted to do that since all other companies had not done that and he said yes ma'm this is my job. The other three companies told me they would let me know by email or mail what the estimate would be. Moses gave me a comprehensive estimate before he left that day, complete with diagram. The other three companies said I would have to remove the overgrowth and any tree limbs that were hanging over the area where the fence would be. My husband and I are going on 80 years old and this would mean an extra expense for us cause neither of us could go traipsing down the steep hillside trying to remove weeds and saw limbs. Moses said: "Oh no, we clear the brush and trim the branches that need to be removed and we will remove all the old fencing as well. After reviewing the diagram on the estimate i remembered that i need a gate at the bottom of the hill. I mentioned this to Moses and he said no problem we will include that gate. Angel was the job foreman, they arrived at the agreed upon date and time . Moses did also. Moses introduced us and when he saw I felt compfortable, he left. Angel and his crew were fantastic. They put heart and soul into their job and didn't stop except to eat. Everytime I went out they were all working hard.. These fellows finished their task one whole day ahead of schedule. We needed desperately to replace our decorative metal gates in our front yard and a side fence and gate. Both were put in 2 1/2 years ago. Reuben Borg Fence came highly recommended by a good friend of ours. He let us know that Reuben Borg builds good quality fences using only the best craftsmanship and Reuben Borg was highly recommended for his neighborhood. Yefri was our contact person for the job. He came out and gave us an estimate and recommendations. Since the metal gate rusted in two years, due to lack of powder coating, he suggested we go with an aluminum product for the decorative gate. Wow! What a difference. And it wasn't that much more money. We are also very impressed with the new fence and gate. We can tell by the way the posts were put in using an auger, another step lacking with the other fence company, this fence is going to last a long time. The new gate is just what we needed, a secure, private gate with a supper latch and lock, recommended by Yefri. His workers, also very polite, showed up early and got the job done. I have hired Reuben Borg Fence for two major fencing projects over the past three months, the latest being completed a week ago. Without question, they are the best fencing company I've ever experienced. They are professional, timely and efficient, very skilled, and highly responsive to the inevitable mid-project adjustments that crop up. While they can be somewhat pricier than others I've used over the years, for me it's a case of getting the quality you pay for. For example, they use 4 X 6 posts to anchor the fence instead of the more common 4 X 4. They sink the 4 x 6 posts more deeply into the ground, and pour almost two 80 pound bags of cement in each posthole to anchor it properly. They use fully pressure-treated lumber in all the right places. The list goes on and on. My wife and I wanted a fence that would endure for many years, and that's what Reuben Borg built for us. BTW, the supervisor on our projects--a seasoned, smart, responsive and thoughtful man named Carlos Flores--was a pleasure to work with. Our experience with Carlos on our first project was so good that we requested that he also oversee our second, more complicated project, which he did with the same attention to detail. We're now considering yet a third project--a lengthy retaining wall with drainage, crushed stone, etc.--with Reuben Borg, assuming Carlos can supervise, of course. read more

We have had our fence for six months, and we are still regularly talking about how much we enjoy it. It is a beautiful privacy, nicely defining our space, replacing a wire fence I put in 30 years earlier. My wife had wanted a Reuben Borg Fence for years and years; I once again truly appreciate her wisdom. Joel Mendoza and Saul did the work. Saul was the foreman who worked wonders clearing brush and trees with his machete, and designed/installed a perfect fence; accommodating an almost, but not quite flat terrain. Joel's bilingual expertise was flawless, greatly improving on my poor Spanish. He was right in the thick of installing our wonderful fence. An unexpected benefit was seeing that we could put in fruit trees along the back fence. We now have 9 fruit trees that will provide over 30 different varieties of fruit continuously over a five month period. Sweet! (in more ways than one) They also put in two gates, one on either side of our house. I wish I had also gone through with adding one on the back fence, which would have made it easier to dig the drain trenches under the fence, used for the fruit trees. I was very disappointed in the estimator, his attitude and the extreme cost they wanted to replace a section of fence. The estimator name was Moises Flores and he started out pretty unhappy when he saw that we had some growth on the fence. He said that we would need to get it removed. I didn't understand this as the fence had been replaced in the past with no problem dealing with some plant growth. He seem annoyed with me and took on an attitude, maybe it was the heat. Then he proceeded to take a measurement which was about 97 feet. He stated that the cost would be over 7K to do the job. I found that to be outrageous considering the one other bid that I had. He apparently didn't seem to care, smirked and left. If this is the kind of experience I received with the estimator I cannot imagine how the crew might be. Under the circumstances we will be choosing another Fence company and based upon the impression left by the estimator and the complete lack of concern expressed to work with us on this fence replacement, I would not recommend this company to others. That's a shame when you consider we live in an older neighborhood in Pleasanton with lots of old Redwood Fence needing replacement. We all talk to each-other and even in this digital age, word of mouth rules. read more

We recently had Reuben Borg replace my old fence. We were four neighbors and all did our common portions all together. It all started from one and then got extended till mine and to my right neighbor. I do not have any neighbor behind me to share with and I decided to do this extra 50 ft also. I am glad we did through Reuben. Though I did not meet Moises Flores until the project was over as my neighbor did all the talking, showing and getting estimates from Moises and I just had few interactions over phone, it all went very smooth, as planned and executed in time. Extending the job for my right side neighbor was easy and got executed without impacting other works or the dead line. I am very happy with the so good, high quality clear fencing wood. Ultimate finish and looks so strong. I could smell the fresh redwood for 2 days until these were sealed for good. It all got finished in 2 days, we just had a gap of one day before the sealing was done. Perfect execution. Good job Moises, Reuben Borg Fence and the crew. Thanks for doing the job for me.
