We've had them for a…read morefew weeks now and still every time I pass through them, I applaud myself for having found FCR Fence & Deck and having had the wisdom to move forward with their company. From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

We get strong winds that can blow a weave or a wig off a person's head, and it is hotter then hot in the summers reaching past 100 degrees, and when it rains, its nice to smell the rain and see it coming down. Now it is July 2026, and the fencing is 26 years and 2 months old. You can't tell me (as I will attach photos, that this fencing didn't need to be done.....because it did. We had gotten a bid from a neighbor who lived down and around the corner from us, as his father owns a fencing company. We had asked him and his gf to provide us a quote a LONG while back and that quote was pratically another TRUCK payment and then some. So we held off. Then one windy day, on 12/14/2024, the wind blew our fence over and the shared property line fence over. The tenant living next door in the little shack named Pablo, came to help us put the fencing back up. He even knew and said it was just a temporary fix until the next wind came. Since then the fence has fallen over 3 more times to 2026. Then on yet another windy day, my tarp flew over the fence into my neighbor's backyard - but this neighbor's home lives in Steven S. Stroud, and so my husband and I walked over to that neighbor's house to see about getting my tarp back from her backyard. We knocked and no one was home. So we left her a note introducing ourselves and when she got come from she messaged us and we went over to go grab it. She had my husband get the tarp because her backyard slants up and she wasn't about to climb the steep hill. So while standing there and Johnny's retrieving the tarp, I had asked her did she use to do her fencing. She too, told me about the neighbor who's dad owns the fencing company, and she also said that when she asked him for a quote, his quote he gave her was INSANE! So with some research, she then found A&J Fencing. This is where I called them and asked for a quote. Scott Knolbloch came and gave me a quote. Because I share property line with two other neighbors, he informed me about the 30-Day Good Neighbor Law. Later that night, I got the quote from Scott regarding the fencing that was much needed which was 26 years old, falling over 4 times, due to rotted and deteriorating wood, with nails, screws and staples protruding through onto my side from the neighbors side where they tried to repair the fencing themselves. The quote was sooooo reasonable, I had to relook at it twice!! Nutshell, we ended up proceeding with the quote provided from Scott with A&J Fencing. We were able to get both neighbors onboard with paying their half of the fencing after provided and sending out Certified 30-Day Good Neighbor Law Letter. We are soooo pleased with the work. Rigo and his crew showed up at 8am on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Knocked on my door and I gave the OK to begin. They immediately started unloading the needed and necessary tools, and man o man.....they made taking down the fence soooo easy!!! Next came the digging and before I knew it -- the posts were being put up.....followed by the redwood wood panels. The fencing was done in 5 hours! (They took a lunch break too!). Overall..... A HUGE SHOUT OUT for coming to my property and providing me an AMAZING AND REASONABLE QUOTE...... A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Rigo and his crew for tearing down and putting up my fencing, my double iron gate and my single gate. Yall ROCK!! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Vanessa who I wrote my check too. She was soooo professional and sweet! Scott came out quickly to understand the project and our needs and provided us with a competitive quote. Our project was a hogwire fence around the parameter of our front yard, which included a gate that bridge the gap between the new fence and the side of our house. He quoted me the same day he came out, and once the quote was signed, he had his team out here within a week. The workers were prompt, professional, friendly, and worked fast. They finished in half a day and cleaned up afterwards, which was nice. The final result was fantastic, much better than I imagined, and all of our neighbors came out to compliment us on the fence. Tom, the business owner, offered me $5600 to complete a 100 linear foot fence with a cheaper design…read morethan I had requested at the first site inspection for a quote. When I requested that instead of 4"x4" posts we use 4"x6" posts, he told me that since the size difference was so "out of the ordinary" it would cost an extra 50-70% on the whole job, making it a minimum of $8400 just for that small change to a more sturdy post. He also said that he would be "happy to do the job" the way I wanted the fence, and not the cheap way that he wanted to for $5600, for $10,000. Of course you will be happy to do a job that gives you 3 times the market value for the work, Tom. That didn't happen this time, and don't let him swindle you either. Tom will take you for a fool if he can. The price of the materials was around $2000, including brand new tools. Do your own cost itemization because shady business owners like Tom will do it for you and wildly inflate the numbers if he even bothers to itemize the cost of materials and labor at all. Most contractors choose not to because then they can't justify the insane markups they like to tack on to the price of the job. UPDATE: Tom responded, and so I will respond to his nonsense. I never said that Tom included the price of brand new tools in his quote. I said that I did the market research myself (pretty easy, just walk into Home Depot and tally the costs), and found that all of the materials including brand new tools amounted to around $2,000. Tom does not itemize his quotes and when I asked him about the inflated prices for the 4"x6" Pressure Treated Posts via email he basically shrugged it off and said "if you think my prices are too high, then go with a competitor". I did just that and sent him a scan of the written quote from his competitor Reuben Borg Fences that quoted me around $4500 and built the fence mostly as I asked them to. Tom responded with a snarky "thank you for enlightening me." NOTICE how nothing in Tom's response dealt with the issue of him artificially inflating his price up to $8400 from $5600 just for a change in the size of fence posts from 4"x4" to 4"x6". Don't do business with Tom.

We live in the Berkeley Hills it was also time to install an alternative to wood (for fire safety). After doing some research, including a neighbor's recommendation, we found Duce. They did a great job for us. Susan was professional throughout the process, from planning to installation. And she or Kayla returned our calls in a timely fashion. The crew was hard working and they worked quickly. They left the site very neat. They were done in 3 days. At the time they did the job Duce used Knotwood aluminum fencing. Knotwood offers a wide range of colors to choose from. And compared to the company our neighbors used, it shipped the material much more quickly. We wanted the fence to look like the fence we were replacing and we couldn't be happier. Showing how Susan takes care of her customers, we requested a small change. She took care of this without any additional charges. As far as cost goes, metal fencing can cost a lot more than wood. From talking to other neighbors who installed metal fences, I'd say Susan offers competitive pricing. One more positive about aluminum fencing is it's going to last a long time.

They handled the demo, re-leveling, sprinkler system, installation of plants, sod, installed pavers for a wall and stairs from the sidewalk, laid concrete for a new walkway, installed a new fence and installed outside lighting in the new front yard. I'm sure I left out other things, but they provided a skilled and professional crew to do all of this and this was just our first project. They also replaced a fence in our backyard (second project) and then we recently hired them again to replace our backyard deck (two levels). Each experience has been absolutely stress free and amazing. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone that needs work done. They listened to us, kept us informed, and worked through some difficult weather at times to get the job done.

We had a broken line (one that Ken had worked on recently). As soon as I saw that we had an issue with our irrigation system, I contacted Ken. His response was "Sure Tuesday or Thursday it would be at the end of the day." Great- this is the kind of prompt response you would be glad to receive, if there was follow-through...But there wasn't... he didn't show up at all that week. Then when he admitted to not completing his commitment and I asked to please get to it earlier than "the following Wednesday." He refused and said go find someone else. Thanks, I will.

I guess I was supposed to be checking my phone the whole day hoping he would contact me, but I was busy and figured he'd show up like he said. Nope. Later I saw a text from him about a time and wrote him back and nothing. I apologized for not seeing his text earlier and wrote him a couple times over the course of a week. No response at all. So, if you want to deal with a guy who seems to think he's doing you a favor, won't give an appointment time, and just has an attitude, then Ken Smith might be the clown for you.

I got in touch with G &G Deck and Fence about installing a new porch at my home. After researching woods, it came down to Redwood and Ipe. Gary and his team were very responsive, and he came out to provide a free estimate. Gary is super friendly and very thorough. He took the time to explain to me both the similarities and differences of Redwood and Ipe. Gary gave me an estimate for both wood types in a quick turn around. The prices of the estimates were great. Way better and lower than I had anticipated. Extremely pleased estimates and the Gary's explanation and attention to detail, G&G Deck was an easy choice. I decided to go with the Ipe. The crew showed up on time every day, worked hard and efficiently, and were very respectful and polite. They took care as to not damage the exterior walls, railings, and door. I was pleased that the crew would show us the progress and provide updates. What they do really is an art form. The Ipe deck looks incredible! The wood is beautiful and changed the entire look of the front of the house, for the better. G & G's installation is as good as it gets -- boards are flush against each other so no gaps, they inspected and selected the best pieces of wood. If you are looking for any wood work to be done, be it a porch, deck, or fence, make sure G & G is at the top of your list. I called Betony at G&G Fence and she scheduled Ben the estimator to come out the next day to give us a quote on a replacement fence. Ben was very professional and made several positive suggestions at no additional cost to improve on the 33 year old 65 foot long good neighbor fence. My neighbor and I scheduled the job for today and the crew and Ben arrived at 0730 ready to work. The job was completed by 3:30, the site cleaned up and all spoils hauled off. The 3 person crew did an outstanding job keeping me informed throughout the day. As a retired project manager for multi million dollar jobs I can tell you this team is fantastic. If you are looking for a top notch team I highly recommend G@G Fence and Deck. Also I would be remiss if I didn't mention the amazing service that Betony the office manager provided. We just had our fence done by G&G and couldn't be more pleased with the work they did! This family run business pays attention to every last detail. We live on nearly half an acre, Gary came out and gave us an estimate, talked through our different options and his recommendations! Never felt rushed or pressured, answered all of our questions! He had us on the books in no time and now I have a beautiful fence protecting my grandkids while they play happily in the yard! David was the foreman on our job and he talked through everything, walked the job with me, was on time everyday, left the job site clean and safe for kids and pets and got done right on schedule! G&G were extremely professional and customer-focused from the get-go! They installed a beautiful fence in the entire perimeter of our backyard that we share with no less than four neighbors! They took the time to ensure that the craftsmanship was top-notch, but also that all of us were very satisfied. We started the initial process with four bids and G&G rose to the top in terms of quality, price and guarantee. Very responsive from office to bid and construction for our 6' construction heart grade redwood fence and gate. Quality material and craftsmanship; 15 year warranty. They use extra fasteners on the board on board style. The specs. they use make for a very solid installation. Ben bid the project and showed up before the crew on the first day to go over the job so there was no confusion. Luis led the crew and was very diligent consulting with me on the finer points. I split a 90' run of fence with my neighbor, and we contracted with G&G due to their professionalism in ALL aspects of their company. Pam was extremely nice and helpful. James came to look at our shared fence line, and explained the process all the way down to the type of nail they were using. We had G&G rebuild a front porch and side yard fence + put a new fence around our front yard. We sprung for some details like the metal gates & arched tops. From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

We get strong winds that can blow a weave or a wig off a person's head, and it is hotter then hot in the summers reaching past 100 degrees, and when it rains, its nice to smell the rain and see it coming down. Now it is July 2026, and the fencing is 26 years and 2 months old. You can't tell me (as I will attach photos, that this fencing didn't need to be done.....because it did. We had gotten a bid from a neighbor who lived down and around the corner from us, as his father owns a fencing company. We had asked him and his gf to provide us a quote a LONG while back and that quote was pratically another TRUCK payment and then some. So we held off. Then one windy day, on 12/14/2024, the wind blew our fence over and the shared property line fence over. The tenant living next door in the little shack named Pablo, came to help us put the fencing back up. He even knew and said it was just a temporary fix until the next wind came. Since then the fence has fallen over 3 more times to 2026. Then on yet another windy day, my tarp flew over the fence into my neighbor's backyard - but this neighbor's home lives in Steven S. Stroud, and so my husband and I walked over to that neighbor's house to see about getting my tarp back from her backyard. We knocked and no one was home. So we left her a note introducing ourselves and when she got come from she messaged us and we went over to go grab it. She had my husband get the tarp because her backyard slants up and she wasn't about to climb the steep hill. So while standing there and Johnny's retrieving the tarp, I had asked her did she use to do her fencing. She too, told me about the neighbor who's dad owns the fencing company, and she also said that when she asked him for a quote, his quote he gave her was INSANE! So with some research, she then found A&J Fencing. This is where I called them and asked for a quote. Scott Knolbloch came and gave me a quote. Because I share property line with two other neighbors, he informed me about the 30-Day Good Neighbor Law. Later that night, I got the quote from Scott regarding the fencing that was much needed which was 26 years old, falling over 4 times, due to rotted and deteriorating wood, with nails, screws and staples protruding through onto my side from the neighbors side where they tried to repair the fencing themselves. The quote was sooooo reasonable, I had to relook at it twice!! Nutshell, we ended up proceeding with the quote provided from Scott with A&J Fencing. We were able to get both neighbors onboard with paying their half of the fencing after provided and sending out Certified 30-Day Good Neighbor Law Letter. We are soooo pleased with the work. Rigo and his crew showed up at 8am on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Knocked on my door and I gave the OK to begin. They immediately started unloading the needed and necessary tools, and man o man.....they made taking down the fence soooo easy!!! Next came the digging and before I knew it -- the posts were being put up.....followed by the redwood wood panels. The fencing was done in 5 hours! (They took a lunch break too!). Overall..... A HUGE SHOUT OUT for coming to my property and providing me an AMAZING AND REASONABLE QUOTE...... A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Rigo and his crew for tearing down and putting up my fencing, my double iron gate and my single gate. Yall ROCK!! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Vanessa who I wrote my check too. She was soooo professional and sweet! Our project was a hogwire fence around the parameter of our front yard, which included a gate that bridge the gap between the new fence and the side of our house. He quoted me the same day he came out, and once the quote was signed, he had his team out here within a week. The workers were prompt, professional, friendly, and worked fast. They finished in half a day and cleaned up afterwards, which was nice. The final result was fantastic, much better than I imagined, and all of our neighbors came out to compliment us on the fence. After getting multiple quotes, Matt stood out for the best combination of experience, value, and craftsmanship. He was incredibly patient--sticking with us for nearly a year through timing delays, big decisions, the birth of our child, and City permitting hurdles. Now that we've moved on to other projects, we truly wish every contractor were as professional, skilled, timely, and collaborative as Matt. Our first project was a large fence around our steep backyard. Matt met with us and our neighbors multiple times to finalize placement and coordinated on what needed to be cleared. His team completed the fence at record speed, and the redwood blends beautifully into the forested backdrop. It looks fantastic--and our dog loves his new wonderland. The second project was a much more complex like-for-like replacement of a 30-year-old deck. Matt guided us on what to keep, what to upgrade, and walked us through material and design options. We chose TimberTech decking with a redwood and hog wire railing, and the result is stunning. Despite unexpected permitting challenges with the City of Oakland, Matt stayed fully engaged, coordinating with our structural engineer and always making himself available. The original fence was designed so the corner post was shared, making it feel balanced and intentional from all three properties. The new install prioritizes one long run and drops a post mid-span to branch off for the neighbors. It's not as clean or considered, and you can tell. To be clear, if they had simply followed the original footprint, this would have been a perfectly acceptable fence. It's sturdy. But the materials are budget and there's no craft to it, so getting the design wrong makes an already basic fence that much harder to fix. Communication was poor throughout: no response when we confirmed our availability, then two guys showed up unannounced on a day our neighbor's dog was in the backyard. There was also a 10-foot measurement error in the quote. We hired a company instead of DIY-ing because we wanted something thoughtful and neighbor-considerate. This felt like they just got the fence up and moved on, and we're the ones living with the result for the next decade.

I requested a quote from IVS for a large fence project and it was a bit difficult to iron out the…read moredetails with IVS. Ignacio, who came for the site visit and identified himself as the owner, was very easy to communicate with both in person and over the phone. However, Jackie, (not clear to me if she's the co-owner or Ignacio's wife) finalizes pricing and pretty much runs the show. For our project, we had picked IVS to do the work, but the price kept increasing by thousands of dollars. I asked to speak with Ignacio since these changes were inconsistent with what I discussed with him and put them week above our other quotes, but Jackie said that's not necessary since she decides the pricing. They also charge tax on materials, which no other fencers do (since they're already paying tax to Home Depot, etc.). These business practices felt disingenuous to me and like bait and switch. I've had issues in the past with businesses like this that once the work begins they'll change order you again and ask for more money. So we did not use them. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range and IVS was around $12K. All were licensed and bonded. We went with the lowest quote and are extremely happy with our fence.
