My husband and I wanted to see about redoing our 35-year-old backyard deck and pergola. We had two different companies come out, and each gave us a bid. We did go with G&G; they were a fair amount lower in price, and we liked that they were local. The owner was a nice guy, and he had excellent reviews, accompanied by photos. You have a choice of the quality of lumber that is used, which is a nice option. The owner, Gary, and his team were what you'd expect from professionals. The team of three was always on time, worked long hours, and cleaned up after each day's work. They first demolished our old structure, which took about a day, and then rebuilt our new structure with some modifications that we both agreed upon. They got done in about a week. We're now waiting for the stain, which must be done after three months. However, our deck and pergola structure are beautiful. We would use Gary again if we needed fencing done, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. We highly recommend him. read more

Gary is a super nice guy who genuinely cares about doing a great job. I wanted a more modern looking horizontal fence and Gary was the first to bid the job and actually give me confidence that he knew what he was doing and could give me the desired outcome. It's immediately clear he is knowledgeable, capable, and punctual, doing just what he says he will and exactly when he says he will do it. Since having the horizontal side fence and steel gate done earlier this year I've called him again to replace a back fence shared with the neighbor in a board on board style and it was also flawlessly executed and was a fair price. He also did a side fence with wood framed gate to match the horizontal side/front, and it's beautiful and functions flawlessly. 10/10 will use G&G for any future fencing projects and would reccommend Gary (and his lovely wife Betony!) to everyone! read more

G & G removed our old fence and replaced it with a new fence. The new fence looks beautiful! Ben, the estimator provided a very thorough bid the same day. The workers were very professional and cleaned up after working. It was a two-day job - one day to remove the old fence and install the posts. The second day they framed and installed the boards. The foreman was Rodrigo and his other two-man team were very courteous and polite. As modifications arose, both Ben and the workmen were accommodating. We were getting estimates for a deck replacement and met with Gary. He was very knowledgeable and not pushy for the job. This was an elevated deck connected to the back of our house and on a hillside. We already had structural plans and a permit. We decided to go with G&G after many estimates and he came in competitive as it was off-season. We had a couple issues come up but they were unforseen, on us, and our structural engineer. However, his ability to adapt, reschedule, and push through was great. Let's talk about his crew... David and his crew were Awesome! We could not be more thrilled with how our new fence turned out. We bought our house last year and it has needed a lot of love. The previous owners just left old chunks of fencing on the ground next to the existing fence. Well, one day, we decided to collect the old fencing material, and sure enough, the next day our fence fell over (apparently those old pieces were keeping the current ones up). We got quotes from a few fence companies, and while G&G wasn't the cheapest, they seemed to be the most thorough and understand exactly what we were looking for (thanks to Ben). The crew was great and worked so, so hard! We had them remove another section of fence that was going to fall down any day now. We also have a severe slope in our backyard and they put in a retaining wall as the base of the fence. I worked with Greg and his team at G&G Deck and Fence to build a new fence around my property. I selected G&G, because I felt they had the best customer service & satisfaction, as well as quality. I was correct!!! Greg really stands behind his work and makes sure it was done properly. He also warranties his work and follows through on his warranty. G&G built over 350 feet of fence for me (in three different styles) and I couldn't be happier. It is a beautiful and sturdy redwood fence that will last 40 years, if I maintain it properly. Pricing was competitive, a little bit higher than some others, but still much lower than a general contractor or landscaper. Well worth it, an excellent value. Greg also has a great reference for staining the fence. The posts are 6"x6" with 4'+ deep footings, since they are on a hill. Posts are straight, boards were cut & fit perfectly, and the footings have a nice concrete crown on top. The on-site lead worker, David, is very, very good! I am a Facilities Manager/Engineer, so I deal with lots of contractors in my job. I highly recommend G&G Deck and Fence! They are the best in the East Bay. read more

Since 2017 G&G Deck and Fence has built all of our new perimeter fences and gate. Last Nov 2020 being the most recent build. I noticed this week that one of the pressure treated posts was starting to twist and cracked the fence. Not their fault by any means. I called and spoke to Betony who is always so nice. These guys came out and literally improved our quality of life, to say nothing of how beautiful and usable our outdoor space is now. We've had a deck/death trap in need of repair for a few years after my brother-in-law's foot went through a board. Having a young daughter and not being able to use our entire backyard has been a drag. The deck space is massive so we waited until we had enough moolah to find the right firm. Boy did we ever! G&G was upfront about what they cost and what we'd get for our money. We got a beautiful deck installed by some very skilled builders. We're on an uneven hill about 6ft up in some places and other firms said they weren't licensed to go that high. Who knew? Prior to our deck, another G&G team replaced some hideous wrought iron fencing for us. They have a deck crew and a fence crew, which makes total sense. You get guys who are pros at what they do either way. The area where the deck and fence meet is seamless. When i saw the completed deck, I nearly cried. Amazing work on a very large (near 400 ft) fence. They used 6x6 posts to a height of 7'. Beautiful, highest quality redwood. The crew were incredible. Super efficient and detail-oriented staff. They encountered some irrigation pipes that were right in the path of the new posts and rerouted them for me. After the job, they cleaned everything up really well. I got a few bids for the job, and although G&G wasn't the cheapest bid, I felt most comfortable after checking reviews here and on NextDoor. We are so pleased with their work. They have a 15 year warranty and we were constantly in contact with their foreman (and even the owner) who would promptly answer all our questions and resolve any concerns. Even neighbors have commented on the quality and attractiveness of our new fence. Who knew people would notice? Thanks so much to G&G. The best price before covid and the best price after covid. We had to wait to get our deck replaced for a couple years. The first bid we received was back in 2018 and was by far the best. We had to move forward due to dry rot a few years later and were surprised to find that it was still the best price. Sure it was more expensive post pandemic but it was still a better price than other bids from years past. The quality of the work is impeccable. G is very responsive. His crew is fast and efficient.
