######### This is the small reuben's place that you go down stairs when you enter, like in a basement. It doesn't compare to the other reuben's 2 block farther. This is like a cheap small snack place. They are under staff like many places, but the waiter was rude in his saying and spoken only English to us. Do yourself a favor, go to the other reuben's.

The food was delicious! A really large menu. Something for everyone. We had the chimmichurri steak salad and bbq short rib grilled cheese. The waiter was great and the atmosphere was comfortable.

French onion soup - so cheesy!

Recommend! Popped in here the other day when EVERYWHERE else was closed. What a respite from the cold! We got the French onion soup, the grilled cheese with bacon, and the smoked meat Royal with poutine on the side. Overall we were very happy with the meal. The French onion had great flavor and was so cheesy on top! I will say that maybe it was a little too much of the bread on top, eventually it felt like I was fighting bread to get to the soup. The grilled cheese was yummy but maybe a little on the greasy side. My husband loved his sandwich. I didn't try it but he raved. I was hoping to get to try the poutine, but alas - I have a shellfish allergy and there isn't a separate frier for the French fries and the shrimp. Heart breaking. But my husband said it was amazing. It was great to pop in and would likely return if we were looking for an easy casual meal.

One of my daughter's friends who lived in Montreal for over 15 years recommended this place because they supposedly have the best Reuben's. We did try it and guess what? He was absolutely right - they have the best Reuben's that my son and I have ever tasted. We both that reuben's were supposed to have dry meat because most of them do. This corned beef we so tender and juicy! Now, I will be spoiled for anything else.

A small tip representing what I felt about the service :-(

Dropped by here recently for lunch. I haven't been back here in probably over 3 years and when I was in the area shortly after restaurants were allowed to re-open for dining services, this place was closed during lunch time. I passed by today as I was downtown and it was a nice sunny day and decided to eat here as I felt like a smoke meat sandwich. Since I was downtown for work and my lunch was roughly 1 hour long (taking me about ~10 minutes to walk here and another ~10 minutes to walk back to my office), I thought that I would have plenty of time for my lunch. My lunch was at about 1:00pm and I probably arrived at the restaurant around 1:10pm. Going downstairs, there was someone waiting to be seated before me. People working at the restaurant seemed to be ignoring the line in the front and one of the people decided to go into the restaurant and speak with the server to let her know that people were waiting to be seated and there were apparently empty seats. There was a sign at the bottom of the stairs mentioning that they were working at reduced capacity. The server showed up and then seated the people who were in front of me and then returned to seat myself. When I followed her, I noticed some of the tables were closed/cordoned off so they weren't operating at 100%. The server gave me the menu and then left. Even though when she led me to my table, I spoke with her in English, she gave me a French only menu. It wasn't really that much of an issue as I can understand French and knew what I wanted. When I looked at the menu, it seemed as if prices have increased dramatically and they also don't have any lunch specials or at least these weren't advertised/mentioned on the menu. The server returned with a small glass of water and asked if I was ready. I told her that I was and made my order. I ordered a smoke meat sandwich (called Super Smoke Meat). Since this is the first time I returned since the Covid closures, the tables were bare except for a paper napkin, fork, and knife (no salt, pepper, ketchup, or mustard containers). My order took about 10 minutes to arrive to me and when the person dropped off my order, the person (it wasn't the server who took my order), just placed it on my table and left without asking me whether I wanted ketchup, mustard, salt, etc. Also, after 10 minutes, with the small glass of water that they gave, the glass was empty and I wasn't offered a refill. After I finished my meal, I wiped my hands/mouth with the paper napkin and crumpled it up and put it on my empty plate to signify that I was finished. I also removed my wallet from my pocket and had it in my hands. Waited another 5 minutes for the server to return and when she returned, she took the empty plate and asked me if I wanted more water. Sorry but my meal is over and I didn't get a refill when my glass was empty shortly after the start of my meal and I'm now offered a refill?!? Why not offer me ketchup/mustard/salt now?!? The server asked me if I was ready to pay and I said yes. She then left and served a few other tables before returning with my bill and the portable credit card machine. I paid and wasn't sure what I should do with the tip since I didn't feel that she deserved my customary tip (where I would automatically click on one of the predefined percentages on the machine) and I felt that even a low tip of 10% was still too much for what little service I got. I also didn't feel like perhaps causing a scene by not giving any tip nor did I think that not giving a tip was warranted. I decided to manually enter a dollar amount for the tip into the credit card machine and the transaction was processed. When the credit card spit out the copy of the credit card receipt, the server saw how little I left as a tip but didn't question me on it. She probably thought that I was just a "bad tipper" or was visiting Montreal from another country/place and didn't know how tipping worked in Montreal/Canada. I wanted to tell the server why I had left such a tip but due to the time, I didn't want to be late returning to work. I can't recommend eating here for lunch (maybe same thing applies to dinner) based on the service. The food was however good. If they aren't going to refill the patron's water glasses as frequently or regularly because they are (too) busy, they should probably give larger glasses of water. The glass of water that they gave was probably less than 200 ml. 200ml of water during a meal isn't enough in my opinion. If due to sanitary and Covid concerns, they no longer want to give/leave squeezable bottles of condiments (ketchup/mustard) on tables, my suggestion is to put the individual packs on the tables or when placing the plate on the table, automatically leave 2 packs of each item/condiment on the table as well or at least ask if the person wants ketchup for their fries and extra mustard for their smoke meat sandwich. Giving 2 stars since my previous review was 3 stars where service was better.

    Reuben's Sandwich

Saturday evening, had a six-person reservation for dinner. Diner-style interior with cushioned booths and dark-wood tables in a dimly lit setting. Menus has a little bit of everything - running from breakfast items to steak dinners. Figured to go with the safe bet and ordered the Reuben's Sandwich ($18) - a large helping of smoked meat, swiss, tomato, lettuce, and sauerkraut alongside fries and a pickle. Liked the smoked meat and the fries are cooked well. Bread is a little greased up from the butter and cheese, which makes the giant sandwich hard to finish. Service here is friendly, and we got our food timely despite being a larger group. Price is a tad high, yet they do match the portions.

After being gone from Montréal for a month I was craving comfort food a la max. Reuben's delivered. Friday night 5:30 pm Service was fast and very professional. I've eaten here more then I can count and I've yet to have a waiter as professional and friendly as the man I had. He was from around lac saquaye area I believe tall man with brown hair. Opened our napkin sticker and removed the sticker from the table. He went that extra mile and we really noticed. We shared our meal and he brought us plates for the salad the poutine and sandwich. Most the time they just put it in the middle and you both have to try to lean over the table to enjoy your meal. At the end of our meal he said happy holidays have a good night and thank you for coming. This guy deserves employee of the month. 5 stars to our waiter 4 stars for the food, smoked meat isn't my favourite in Montréal but all around tastey! Bravo

I find that their smoked meat is very good, I recommend checking it out if it's your first time in Montreal and you would like to try some local food. During my last visit, I ordered one of their steaks. I think it's called Hamburger Steak (I might be wrong). It is served with sauteed onions on top and comes with a side of French fries, veggies, a pickle and some gravy. Portions are pretty big and food quality was also pretty awesome. Service was also good (the waitress was very nice to us). The only thing that I didn't like was that it was very dark inside.

Its my go to place for smoke meat downtown. The view isn't great. Actually it's horrible. In a dark gloomy basement, one floor down from Ste Catherine St. you will be greeted by friendly staff who work hard to have you coming back. The smoked meat comes stacked high on rye bread and served with a huge pickle snd tasty slaw. I think they changed their fries. I prefer the big meaty greasy fries. They serve the match stick type. Nonetheless everything tastes great.

We come here a few times a year to get our smoked meat fix. We tried all the other smoked meat restaurants in Montreal but this one is the best in terms of consistency and keeping true to the tradition and great overall food experience. This time I had the Super smoked meat platter with a poutine and coke. It hit the spot and we will be back....

We have been here twice which is the same amount we've visited Montreal on both occasions it was for lunch, on both occasions the great service shined out, after our meal they went out of there way to answer a question on where we could go to buy flowers. We had Cobb salad and Bangkok chicken salad in reality we could have shared as portion size is huge. Both salads were very good to follow we shared a very tasty blueberry compote cheesecake. When we come back to Montreal we will definitely pay another visit. Thanks guys

Our server was really good and the food was really good. We tried the non-alcoholic guava mule. The guava was nice and sweet and complimented the spicy of the ginger beer. We ordered a French onion soup, steak Diane, and a beef Wellington. The entrees came with choice of salad. We tried one of each , house Gibby salad and the blue cheese wedge. This was a lot of food for us. The French onion soup was my favorite, good flavor, lots of onions and that nice browned cheese top. Both salads were good, the house salad was a little lighter since the blue cheese wedge salad had a rich blue cheese dressing and bacon bits on top. The steak and beef Wellington was also good. In general, we ordered medium rare, it was a little bit rarer than I expected but not I'd edible. So something to think about if you need your meat to be cooked more. The prices seemed fair for a steakhouse and for the amount of food we ate.

Walking in, the atmosphere struck me--it's dark and cozy, but still well lit enough to feel inviting. We were seated right away. I was a little worried about how we were dressed, but the vibe turned out to be pretty flexible. We saw everything from nicely dressed couples to a bachelor party--complete with the groom-to-be in a hotdog costume! The menu was straightforward but impressive. Every entrée comes with your choice of a Gibbys salad or a wedge salad with blue cheese, plus a potato (do yourself a favor and get the Monte Carlo--you'll thank me later). For my appetizer, I ordered the French onion soup. I've said before that certain restaurants have the "best" one, but this version may actually take the crown. It wasn't oily, and it was perfectly topped with a generous, melty layer of cheese--the way French onion soup should be. I followed that with the Gibbys salad and a 12-ounce filet. I love a good filet, and this one hit the mark. My husband went for the lamb with the wedge salad and enjoyed both thoroughly. By the end, we were far too stuffed for dessert, so we called it a night. If you're looking to splurge on a memorable, romantic dinner in Montreal, Gibbys is the place to go

The bread served with escargot is hard and chewy; scallop soup is lumpy and lukewarm; the double down foie gras is just two pieces of hard bread which barely has any foie gras; duck breast sliced into 6 thin pieces serves with breakfast sausage; the meat is cold, covered by a gluey sauce; the presentation is disastrous. Asparagus is cold, and the cheese sauce on top is cold too. Maybe it's supposed to be cold? But it is weird to serve as a side of a meat course.

We were lucky enough to grab a last-minute reservation, and Julien took a good care of us throughout the evening. His recommendation of the Beef Wellington was spot on (it's already one of our favorite dishes), but this was hands down the best we've ever had. I ordered the lobster risotto, which was excellent with just the right amount of spice. My son had the 10 oz striploin steak with homemade fries (chips), and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the Canadian touch of coarse salt on the steak, plus the option to choose between Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce. Julien also mentioned their pastry chef placed second in a NY competition, and the desserts absolutely lived up to that reputation. Chomeur is what they call a "poor man's pudding" it's like a cake batter with ice cream on top. Def recommend. Service - 12/10. I mean, they were remarkable! Our waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful. The whole staff made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us regularly. Everyone was outstanding. Honorable mention - as a parent it's hard to dine with a baby, and there was no area to change him. The restrooms are not kid-friendly. Well, our waitress and her manager allowed me to go next door so I can have some privacy and change my baby on a table. For a parent this was AMAZING! I was so grateful and thankful! Overall, this place is excellent! The restaurant is beautiful, the food is great, and the service is spectacular. You will have a top-tier experience here!

We tried: - complimentary bread, butter, pickles, mustard. I loved this. Never saw another restaurant plop down mustard and pickles. The mustard was also possibly the most delicious mustard I've ever had. Very spicy and slightly salty - Duck confit on beans $37. Tasty, crispy, rich. - Grilled octopus on pepper sauce with potatos $24. Really tender and flavourful. The sauce was bright and acidic - Sorrel soup $13.75. First time having sorrel. It has a slightly sour taste. The soup was creamy and tangy. I'm glad we tried it - Quail with quail eggs on purple rice $37.50. Quail itself wasn't as flavourful but the sauce was amazing and soaked into the rice - Creme brulee $15. Flavour was impeccable. Had a slight grainy texture which was odd but this is just nit picking. Comes with a warm cookie Everything was good. I'm being more nitpicky here than usual, mostly to go back to these notes again in the future. I loved the meal and would definitely go back. Service is very friendly. Food came out super fast. The restaurant is bright and lively. Tables are quite cramped together but it makes sense as they quickly filled up for the evening. Thanks, we'll definitely be back!
