I came in super nervous about my skin and pricing (because I hadn't checked it out completely), but as soon as I stepped foot in the root I felt comfortable with the assistant, she was understanding and sure about what she was saying, she asked all the right questions, and when the doctor (dermatologist) came in she immediately knew what was wrong, she gave me options, she didn't judge me, she comforted me, unfortunately I don't really remember her name but she was super sweet and this place is definitely a 10/10. I'm a teen and I have heard all of it, from doctors not understanding your pain, to giving you false information, I can't wait to go back in April for testing! Unfortunately I have to give this review - I don't like to write bad reviews, it's not easy running businesses, but this was just very poor handling. The way front desk handles customer service in this day and age is absolutely terrible. They have another third party service that has to verify insurance and they might take whatever time they might so you have to wait for may be 10m or 2 hours, who knows! Ok can I give you my info with you? Brash No! Only they will do it, you can wait for I don't know how long or pay a hefty fee now and you will have to send details to your insurance and deal with them. Ok if I pay the fee now can I see the doctor? No I don't know how long it will take as you were late! No I was on time, your team could not figure insurance. Sorry just bad! Rough experience over all and just didn't feel a top shelf service for what this facility could be. read more

Dr. Blakely Richardson is amazing! I went in with concerns about milia that started forming on my face after last summer. She took the time to explain the cysts in detail and offered different types of treatment. I didn't really want to go the slice & dice route so she wrote an rx for medication that might help dry them out (fingers crossed). She was extremely patient and attentive and didn't rush through the appointment. Her assistant was equally kind and informative. The entire staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The office is modern with state-of-the-art equipment and a variety of products. The waiting area is comfortable with quality seating and a Keurig and bottled water. Made an appt for a CO2 consult at 10:10 am. Got there on time, told me I needed to be there at 9:40 to fill out 30 mins of paperwork! For a consult! They should have made appt at 9:40 if I needed to be there at 9:40 am. The front staff was also incredibly rude and their tone was argumentative from the start, no good morning, how are you, etc just straight to admonishing me for being there on time!!!! Lost out on 5k-10k willing to pay for a CO2 laser. Unprofessional & idiotic scheduling. Why do I need to give all my personal info for a consult, I'm not actually getting the procedure yet, I just need a one page worth of documentation/info requests, as other reputable derm/plastic surgeons have asked for. Dr Blakey Richardson is the best dermatologist ever. She always takes the best care of me

I made an appointment about a month ago. Filled out all information online including posting a photo of my insurance card. Parking was easy. When I got to the front desk, all that was asked of me was my drivers license (important to note I didn't get a good morning or anything, just an ask for name and ID). Waited maybe 5-7 minutes to go back to a room. The office is clean and modern. Saw Vanessa Yawn who was wonderful. I moved to Austin about a year ago (from Houston) and have been putting off finding a new dermatologist. I heard about Vanessa via a friend of mine. Her bedside manner was impeccable; I felt comfortable and she listened intently. The only thing I'd suggest: it would be helpful for the employee checking customers out to explain/outline the cost of the visit when asking for payment. I expected a specialist copay of $40 not even realizing that the very minor procedure I had done was not covered under the specialist copay. When I got to the counter and my total was over $100 I was a little stunned. When probed, she let me know that it was due to the procedure. I might have declined the procedure had I known it wasn't covered. Just something for the office to consider. read more

Was informed it was "business hours" so texting on a weekend (even though I got a response) didn't count. You think they'd be more flexible since this was the first time, it was more than 24 hours, and I still wanted to reschedule, but nope. Poor botox consult experience here - I spoke with the clinician for 8 minutes and then she was assumptive that I would get it done that day. When I expressed I wanted to hold off for a day that I had no plans later in the evening, the meeting was done. It was also not made clear that a consult is $150. I was in shock and paid and left but feel as though I was scammed. I will be shopping around elsewhere and recommend you do as well, or at least ask pointed, detailed questions along every stop of the way as my consult was not worth $150. I don't have health Insurance so I was really hoping for a knowledgeable dr. For my particular condition, "scabies" the doctor, whom I was pared with, had limited knowledge, which didn't extended passed the first paragraph of webMD. The doctor entered the room with two colleges and asked if it was ok if they observed. That's ok. I don't mind getting undressed in front of three women in surgical masks but the two nurses chitchatted the whole time, to the point I had to asked the doctor to repeat herself, several times . I was hoping the she would reprimand them but soon caught on, she didn't have any answers or suggestions. Update: Well, I received a bizarre letter today from Westgate skin & Cancer letting me know I've been "dismissed for defaming or negative commentary, abusing staff, and breaking their policies." Fascinating, albeit disturbingly false rewrite of the facts and reality. So strange. I can only assume that they read my previous review from 3/14/19 and this "dismissal" form is how they chose to respond, though I'm perplexed by the notion that you can dismiss someone who already left and found another provider. (This sort of feels like receiving a breakup letter from your ex, months after you called off the wedding, told everyone what he was really like, moved out and moved on, and then months later he writes you a letter & accuses you of doing to him what he actually did to you in the relationship.) Again, so strange. I clearly indicated several months ago that I would not return to their practice after the railroading, bullying, gaslighting treatment I received from Daniel ("Founder") when he attempted to pressure me into signing several of the new policies they'd recently implemented, so the point of this form letter seems rather moot to say the least. Call me sentimental, but I miss the good old days when it was considered best practice for businesses to reach out in the spirit of goodwill and attempt to make things right with customers who'd had a negative or upsetting experience with their staff or business. Oh, well. C'est la vie... After the shocking and somewhat traumatic experience I had with Daniel ("Founder") in March, I wrote my review, then happily moved on and found a wonderful derm practice that is a much, much better fit for me. I feel valued as a patient/customer by every staff member I've come in contact with (i.e.,I haven't been bullied or railroaded or gaslighted.), my rights as a patient/consumer have been respected, and there are no outrageous demands or policies (that could leave my data and credit card vulnerable to a potential security breach, or gag clauses that infringe on my consumer and first amendment rights.) that one must agree to in order to be customer/patient. All is well. This has truly been the most bizarre and unnecessarily negative experience I've ever had with a business, medical or otherwise. Anyhoo... Good luck, friends, and remember: Honesty is always the best policy; kindness (definitely) matters; we're all entitled to our own opinions, but not our own facts. Note to the business: Clear communication is extremely useful and important. Perhaps a more respectful, productive, and less dramatic path going forward would be to simply communicate to established patients/customers that your policies have changed since their last visit when they schedule their appointment with your office, and not wait to inform them until they arrive for their appointment. It's best not to assume that your new policies will work for everyone--ESPECIALLY people who began with your practice when they weren't in place. No one is required to sign anything that they don't feel comfortable with or agree to-- that is a basic right as a patient/consumer. Assigning arbitrary labels like "breaking policies" when a person has exercised their basic, legally protected consumer/patient rights and declines to sign new policies (that you failed to inform them about​ and present a certain risk that they are uncomfortable with.) demonstrates an alarming lack of respect and understanding of those rights. Your office did an excellent job of requesting my credit card information in order to hold my appointment in March--that would have been the perfect time to also inform me that your policies had significantly changed and that I would be asked to sign new forms upon arrival. With that new information: I would have simply educated myself about your new policies; contacted your office and communicated my unwillingness to go along with certain aspects of the new changes ahead of time and (I assume) I would have learned quickly learned that there is no middle ground, therefore, not a good fit and simply canceled my appointment (and found another practice with policies that work for me, which I have.) Finally, it would also be prudent to make sure that everyone in your front office knows what your policies actually are in order to prevent future situations like what I experienced. I indicated (before my appointment.) that I was not willing to give your office my credit card to permanently keep on file (after going through the ordeal of three credit card/information breaches/hacks with different companies last year!!) to the young woman I spoke to when I called back and provided to hold my appointment, but that I would happily give your office my credit card information when I scheduled each appointment-- she indicated that what I'd suggested would be absolutely fine. Clearly, that was not an accurate representation of your office policy. Best of luck. read more

This place is cold as ice. The office staff are icy. Not just one person, but the entire culture of the staff. My generally feeling is that whomever governs this office is a tyrant. I went to Westgate Dermatology now called Revelus. (The exact same doctors and PA's work at either establishment.) Here's a typical appt: 1. Parking is tight and hard to maneuver with all of the traffic going in and out. 2. Office doesn't greet you. They glare instead of smile. If they talk, it's just to fill out 10 pages on how you are going to pay the establishment. 3. The doctor's, PA's and assistants are nice and qualified. The only problem is that everything is at a cost. It seemed like everyone was walking on egg shells not to quote a price incorrectly. They would nervously say, "I'll go and check and see how much that will be." The price was always 2-3 times more than at other dermatologists. I decided to move on to another dermatologist. I have had melanoma, so my medical records are important to transfer over. My new dermatologist office said they have called Revelus more than 10 times for my records without ever calling them back. Instead, they let me a voicemail saying that I couldn't have my records unless I pay them $25. You are saying that I cannot have my health records to keep myself cancer free because you need money? Wow. I've researched my rights and I have found that patients have a right to their medical records within 30 days. A nominal fee can be applied, but it can only be the amount for labor to push send on an email or print and mail the documents. The average is $6.50. Whomever owns this place is a monster that only cares about money. If you want an experience free from customer service and general ethics, please go here. read more

Dr Richardson and her entire staff are so kind and knowledgeable. Never pushy or rushing. There is enjoyable music playing in the waiting room and inside the patient rooms, so it becomes as pleasant of an experience as it could be. Thank you for the great experience. Update: I originally went here because I wanted a spider-vein angioma removed on my nose (a small broken red capillary on my nose). I was really self conscious about it as I have very transparent skin so any little thing shows. The gentleman on the phone and dr Richardson both were sure to mention to me that even by using the laser beam to get it zapped away, I may not get full results on the first treatment and I might have to go up to 3 treatments (and clearly explained the added price for each laser treatment) for it to fully fade away. I booked my first appointment to use the beam on my nose. Dr Richardson again clearly explained I might have to go up to 3 times, and carefully re-examined my nose/skin type and set up the laser, assuring me that the number one priority is not to damage my skin by using a laser at a too strong setting! I am happy to say that my broken vein has completely faded away after 1 treatment. After about a week the vein started turning purple/grey and after 6 weeks it's pretty much totally gone. I am so happy! I trust Dr. Richardson to do a great job and with great genuine care for my skin next time I need more dermatology services. Thanks! read more

I am an esthetician who is currently in school for nursing. My ultimate skincare goal is flawless skin which is not always achievable without a prescription of two for help. I have battled melasma for awhile which is caused by being on birth control, hereditary, and or pregnancy. In this situation mine is due to hereditary and probably due to my lack of thyroid. Got to love what life hands you at times. Lately my melasma has gotten worse due to more sun exposure than i had been previously exposed to living in the north or east coast. Thanks Texas sun!!! I scheduled an appointment easily online with their online booking system that is tied with Zocdoc. Super easy. I also printed and filled out the new patient paperwork online before coming to my appointment. It saved me time and overall hassle. While waiting in the waiting area there is water, La Croix and soda for drinking. Score!! Overall I had a good visit when I saw the nurse practitioner. We discussed what I have done to treat my condition and what she could do prescription wise. Too easy. The only slight problem I had was at check out. My insurance was read wrong and they said I owed some money. I had them look again (I know I had met everything this year) and they corrected the error. No worries and glad they checked it again and didn't force me to pay. I have had that issue at another place and had to request a reimbursement due to their error. read more

This office is all about money and not about care. They perform surgical procedures on Thursdays and have no one available to assist with post operative complications on the weekend. I ended up having to go to a minor emergency room because of this. They bill you for everything they can and make you schedule individual visits for every little skin issue. Definitely not focused on patient care. Update below. Well, I received a letter of "patient dismissal" after writing my personal experience on this review. Pretty sure this review made it clear I would never be going back for services there anyway, but this shows you how their office addresses criticism and issues their patients bring forward. To be clear, because of this dermatologist office failing to have an on call physician, I incurred costs at a minor emergency room after a major allergic reaction. Also, the scar which was supposed to be 4 cm is actually 6.5 for a single mole I had to convince the doctor to remove during an annual skin check. Good luck Westgate Skin and Cancer. Loving my new Dermatologist! I've been in Austin about 2 years and had a couple appointments with another dermatologist and just didn't feel like they really listened to my concerns. I've seen Vanessa Yawn 3 or 4 times now and she's awesome! She wants to hear every little detail you can give her to make the most of your visit and help get to the route cause of your issues. She's both great in person and I just had a video conference with her (due to COVID) that went really well. They set you up ahead of time to send pictures they can review and then use Zoom to video conference. Very smooth process where she was able to address and confirm my WeMD'ing concerns (heh couldn't help myself). They are a little backed up right now, so get your appointment in as soon as you can. Also, they are on ZocDoc so it's super easy to set up an appointment and even choose from their if you want to go in person or online. read more

Considering all the choices available, I would highly recommend you find another establishment. I had a mole and some other skin growths removed on my initial appointment. The practitioner told me that I could return for a "touch-up" but "don't wait too long like six months to do it". I was going out of town and my wounds hadn't fully healed before I left. By the time I returned a month had already lapsed since my first appointment. I called Westgate Skin & Cancer back for a "touch-up" less than two months later. After scheduling my appointment, I got a callback asking for a partial pre-pay because I was not insured. I replied that my appointment was for a touch-up at no cost. That's when I became aware of their "one month" touch-up policy. I told the receptionist that I was unaware of that policy, so she said that I would be notified before my appointment "if" a charge would be required. I received no such call accept for a robot call to confirm my appointment the following week. Only after appearing for my appointment today, was I notified again of their one-month policy and their insistence that I pay again. It is not fair to be held accountable for a policy not properly transmitted nor it is reasonable that I be given the impression that I would not have to pay for my "touch-up" only to be humiliated by demanding payment upon arrival for my scheduled appointment. Not to mention, they attempted to overcharge me $100 for my first appointment. On every occasion that a mistake could be made by Westgate Skin & Cancer, a mistake was made, and on each occasion, Westgate Skin & Cancer made no acknowledgement of error. I recently visited Dr. Richardson at Westgate Skin and Cancer to complete the removal of a mole on my shoulder (my two year old son had begun the project, but gave up after I howled in pain and turned on some "Peppa Pig" to distract him from his early efforts at surgery). I was very impressed with both Dr. Richardson's work (it was painless and the affected area healed in a day or two), and equally importantly, with the efficiency and punctuality with which her office staff handled my appointment and the attendant billing and insurance paperwork. (Alas, I will still have to handle writing to the Guinness book of world records to see if "toddler clawing off a mole" is, in fact, eligible for the "world's most punk rock injury not involving Billy Idol's Harley or an errant tattoo gun.") While many medical practices take an indifferent attitude towards their patient's time, I felt like Dr. Richardson's staff understood that my time was valuable and mole removal was just one part of an otherwise packed day. The entire staff has changed over, the young lady I had questions for was also new. Had a question about costs and insurance coverage. She immediately got an attitude, as I was unsure what was covered or not. In the end she told me I could leave now if I wanted and no matter what, I was being billed $50.
