This review is very much overdue. I've been taking CPR courses with Roy from 2008 and keep coming back every two years although my geographical location changed a few times over the years. This is because Roy is an outstanding teacher and incredibly kind human being. His current location at Townsend Street in San Francisco is spacious and very close to the freeway. Plenty of street parking which is bonus for the city. His website is easy to navigate in terms of scheduling and he is very accommodating for individuals as well as small and large groups. Roy has a way of teaching that makes it meaningful and reinforces things so I feel confident I will remember this. I am short and he had a table I could easily work on for success. I was trying to find an affordable class where the reviews were good, not to mention the two things that helped me pick Revive CPR was due to price matching, and the fact that if something came up, or you had to miss your class, that it was free to always reschedule. If you are looking to get an initial certification or renew, this is the spot! I first got certified with Revive CPR in June 2012 and have come every other year since then to renew. Roy is an exceptional instructor; he makes the class go by quickly and easily describes the CPR process and algorithms as well as highlight any AHA updates. The class sizes are never really large, so Roy is able to give individualized attention and guidance. The class is probably the best deal in SF and although my employer offers BLS renewal for free, Revive CPR is still my first choice because I feel like I come put with something new after each refresher class. I first took BLS for Health Care Professionals with Roy 2 years ago with my boyfriend when he was still instructing in Santa Clara. My boyfriend really enjoyed his class so he recommended I take it with him. Roy is a very nice instructor and welcomes any questions and is very easy to understand which is why I wanted to take it with him again since I have to retake it for my nursing program. Although I had to go to San Francisco from San Jose, I think it was well worth it and he is also the CHEAPEST in the bay area for $59, how awesome is that! Other places charge you an arm and a leg -___-. I definitely recommend him to all my friends needing to take any BLS/CPR/AED course and like someone said in a previous post, time flies and great hospitality!! For those traveling from the South Bay, Cal Train is SUUUPER close!! Get off on the last stop of Cal Train on 4th and King Street and it is only a 6 min walking distance!!! EVENT: heading back to school and needed to be BLS CPR/AED certified! We got a group (30+) discount code, which made it more affordable for us, students! So, THANK YOU ROY! This is my first time getting such training! BITS & PIECES: (1) Love the location and very easy to access (press the intercom and you'll find Revive CPR) (2) There are signs everywhere - and you'll find the location, then go up the stairs and keep on walking down! (3) We go over BLS CPR/AED so many times in class, so by the end of class you'll get the hang of it... repetition is the best way to learn! (4) He gives you many breaks! (5) There's coffee! And he offers bottle water to drink! (6) Throughout class you'll perform CPR, use an AED, and help choking patients... and you perform it with a dummy adult/child/infant. (7) After doing activities with the dummy, you'll have time to review stuff before taking the written exam. (8) To me, the BLS CPR/AED written test can be a little confusing - read carefully! Cause there's a difference between adults, children, and infants. But, hey! It was my first time and I was able to do it with 100% score! If I can ... anyone can do it! (9) ROY is such a GREAT INSTRUCTOR! He is so helpful and if I needed him to repeat - he's happy to do it! It's my first time taking the BLS CPR/AED test... and I got a 100%!!! Renewal time for BLS certification is always an inconvenience....however, I signed up with Revive and attended my scheduled class. The instructor for my class was Anthony, and I have to say, not only was this not a painful renewal, I learned more in his class than I ever did in any of my previous ones. A lot of material had changed since my previous certification and Anthony made it easy to incorporate this new knowledge. He was able to explain these changes so they made sense which took all the guesswork out of the test taking process. He created a great atmosphere in the class, which transformed it from the usual awkwardness to a really relaxed environment. I did not take the class with someone I knew or as part of a group, so going in I knew no one there. He made it easy to ask questions, yet not feel as if the class was being slowed down by too many questions. The group size was small which made this a more personal learning experience, and also created a dynamic group environment. I can honestly say that after taking this class with Revive, I would trust any of my class mates if I went down and needed BLS skills to save my life. I felt that good about the class I was in! I appreciate the email reminders, the repeat-customer discounts, and the complimentary keychain (it includes a face mask for rescue, because you never know when you'll need to do CPR)! And of course, in-person, he is a great teacher. He is super friendly, kind, pays attention to detail, and his class doesn't drag on--he uses every minute well. First, the teacher Roy is nice, and I feel a little bad giving a less than stellar review, but I want to provide honest information that will be useful to others considering taking the course or accepting a card earned in it. The website for the course states that there is free parking at all locations. It surprised me that free parking would be available at the North Beach class, but I signed up. The confirmation email advised us to arrive early to have time to look for street parking and that there would be a break in the middle of class if anyone needed to feed a meter. When I asked Roy about this, he said he would reimburse me $8 if I had to park in a lot, but I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable asking for that, and I felt the advertising was somewhat dishonest. (I checked before writing the review, and the site still says free parking.) My husband and I lucked out and found free two-hour street parking about 4 blocks away from the classroom. We arrived a little before the scheduled start time of 1 PM, joining three other people. One person registered for the class had not yet arrived, and Roy telephoned her to find out where she was. When he determined that she was more than ten minutes away, he told her she would need to reschedule because he couldn't keep everyone else waiting (which I appreciated) but that, not to worry, he would make sure she could keep her certification in the meantime so she wouldn't lose her job. I felt the child/adult CPR and choking training went well. There were only five of us and enough individual instruction and practice. This part was finished around 2:45. My husband and I were the only ones who needed infant certification, so he sent us to a conference room with infant mannequins and instructions while he chatted with some of the other students. I came out to get his attention about 5 minutes later, since he knew that we needed to get back to our car within two hours. He sped us through the infant training and then gave us our cards. He remarked that it said we had passed the written test (even though we had not taken one) but that the questions were ones we had answered orally. Again, this struck me as not 100% honest -- following the spirit, rather than the letter, of the requirements. I am a teacher who insists on strict rigor and honesty in my classroom, especially from myself, so he is not my ideal teacher, although less exacting students might find him perfectly satisfactory, especially if they are able to walk or take public transportation. read more

I have been CPR certified for the last 25 years. It has always been required and I have never given much thought to the class. My job has almost always provided an instructor and 50+ plus of us would cram into a classroom and they would start spewing info at us. There would be people in the back reading magazines or talking. It drove me nuts. I no longer work for a big company but I wanted to keep my training current and certified so I went in search of someone local. My main concern was convenience because I truly expected to be herded like cattle into a class where I could barely hear the instructor and if I was lucky I might get a few seconds on a dirty, and stinky mannequin. Boy was I in for a shock! Roy greeted me before I even walked into the door. The class was small and very hands on. He offered frequent breaks if they were needed. He provided water bottles and quickly answered all our questions. Each attendee had their own mannequin, so I actually feel more proficient in the action part of it and not like I just have some head knowledge. It's simple, whether you need to take a CPR class for work or not, EVERYONE should know what to do in an emergency! Take the couple of hours, invest the few $ and get it set it up with Roy! I know that in 2 years when my card is about to expire I will not be dreading having to attend this class again! One last note, I purchased an extra book before class and during the class Roy promised he would refund it. I received an email from paypal within a few hours, he had already taken care of it! Roy was a fantastic instructor and extremely friendly/personable. I took the CPR/AED training as it is a pre-requisite for CPT certification. The course provided me with everything I need to know about CPR/AED and how to properly administer both. While I hope to never encounter an emergency situation, I will know that I am much more well-prepared having taken this course. I suggest taking this course even if you don't have a testing/educational requirement as it is simply good knowledge and you never know when it will help you save another's life. I took the class on Bowers Ave in Santa Clara, CA (basically on Great America Pkwy near AMC Mercado). The facilities were clean, the dummies were in good shape, and the space was sufficient to accomodate all 3 class participants and we each received a bottle of water, which was nice with all of the breaths you'll be administering to your test dummy. The 4th student decided to be a no-show that day. Highly recommend Roy's class as he is genuinely nice and made the class enjoyable. read more

I needed to get my BLS CPR updated right away for a new job and I found Revive CPR through the American Heart Association website (Their classes are AHA CPR ) I chose them because they were able to fit me in within three days.
