With stacked brown boxes hugging the ceiling, dim sum steamer trays hovering overhead, and a grip of Japanese knives hanging from shelves, this store would probably wet an Asian restaurant owner's pants. And mine became wet, too, when I saw the marvelous, thirty-plus quart pots near the entrance for only $45ish. Sure, I don't like aluminum all too much, but for one-time use, and when compared to high-end kitchen stores that charge north of $100--although, very nice-- for something less than 15 quarts, it's a solid deal. But yeah, they have every kitchen supply one could ever want at an affordable price, such as a $2.79 soup skimmer. Hours earlier, we bought one for $20 at a fancy store. Crapppppp. The owner, who also works at a nearby cafe, answered all our questions and worked hard to find an ideally sized pot. I would have a cold beer with him. Heineken, of course. Three friends and I took a macaron baking class with Muriel at her gorgeous Bellevue home and it…read moretotally changed my idea of macarons. I am not a fancy baker (I do uncomplicated cookies, pies, simple breads, etc.) and have never understood the macaron craze that's still going strong. In this class, I learned that they are quite challenging to make and are mouthwateringly delicious when correctly and precisely made--I think I just never tried ones so good as these! The fun in baking them is how challenging they are and imagining all the possible color and flavor combinations. It was a great experience for me and my girlfriends and Muriel was an excellent teacher. First, she made a batch of strawberry macarons and explained very clearly what she was doing every step of the way, including how to gauge if you've done it correctly. Next, we paired up and made a different flavor on our own (coffee and black olive in this case). Muriel helped us every step of the way and sent recipes and videos afterwards. I can't wait to try to make them again without Muriel's help! (Fingers crossed). Word to the wise: if you go on a weeknight, eat dinner first! They didn't bother to greet us as they just stayed planted at their two desks. When my husband inquired about one of the pedestal sinks, one of the women slunk over, told us the size options and then just walked off. We were told we would be emailed more information on the steam shower. Never got it. I called to check on the email. Told it would be sent shortly; still never got it. We checked spam/junk folders - nope. No communication about order status or follow up from sales person asking if we had questions. I walk in to ask for an order update and 1 piece had been previously delivered to the store and the 2nd had arrived that day. Again, no communication items had been received. I ask for previous email to be sent to my email for review and emphasize that IF we were going to invest in a steam shower we would have to order asap as the shower is currently demoed. AGAIN NO email. I did consider staying until I received the infamous email, but thought I was overreacting. So much for buying local. Bottom line: Great selection. 2 stars Horrendous customer service! 0 stars
