It does hurt, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Your first wax always hurts the most because obviously you don't know what to expect, but it does get better after the first strip. I have to say though, what really helped ease my nerves was how chill the whole environment was. The staff makes every client feel welcome, and in my case Erin was super friendly, thorough, and overall such a vibe. It made the entire experience feel a lot less intimidating. They also have complimentary snacks and drinks and initially I passed on them because of how nervous I was, but after my session, best believe I ran to the snack station. As an SF native, I am proud to say that I will be returning to reWAXation as a regular! I am so glad I found this gem. I had an absolutely amazing experience at reWAXation! My appointment yesterday was with Artrecia, and she was incredibly kind, welcoming, informative, and patient. I was SO nervous because I hadn't had a wax since one time in college (which was a HORRIBLE and EXTREMELY painful experience), so I never tried again - until now. While I wouldn't call the experience painless, it was nowhere near as bad as I expected! Artrecia walked me through the entire process, made sure I was breathing properly with the pulls, and kept me calm the whole time. Her patience and professionalism made all the difference. I also got a Peel Off Jelly Mask afterward, which was so soothing! I'm beyond happy with the results and already booked my next appointment. No more shaving, razor bumps, or hyperpigmentation - such a relief! Thank you, reWAXation, for making me feel more comfortable and confident in my body. I went to see Shay for my first wax ever today (11.6.13) so you can imagine the nerves lol! She is so friendly and welcoming great conversation and 100% real about the whole deal with the dos and donts as she works, BTW YES THE WINE WAS A NICE TOUCH. I actually didnt feel uncomfortable around her at all, while she was waxing and we were talking i was texting my sister and friend saying "she has seen me!" lmao!! she is hilarious and as professional as they get. I got there early because my appt was at 2:45 but since she had no other appts before mine she took me right away around 1:30/1:45. Definitely recommend for first timers! i am so happy yelp was here to assure me she was as good as they get. Let me start by saying I'm not one to wax and tell...but Shay was great, and if I could recommend her to everyone I know, I absolutely would! I bought my first wax from Gilt, and after going in, I will absolutely be coming back. The atmosphere was comfortable, the conversation was natural, and she did a GREAT job - not to mention, her use of hard wax saved me from the 'waxing hangover' I typically feel after using strips! She explained that hard wax adheres only to hairs, and doesn't remove skin cells - making it far more efficient and less painful. Needless to say, you need to pay her a visit. I was running errands around the nob hill area a few weeks ago, and decided to check yelp to see if there were any waxing studios in the area who could squeeze me in for a quick lady-bits tune-up. Lo and behold, up pops ReWAXation - and being the Foursquare addict that I am, I checked in and almost peed myself when I saw that they were offering a $25 Brazilian for new clients. Shay was easily the most laid-back, yet professional esthetician I've ever had - she put me entirely at ease and the time flew by as we talked about the city, Pinterest (yes, I know), and the perils of online dating. Got a gift certificate to this place. First timer and was hopeful that the staff were knowledgeable and gentle through the waxing process. The girl that assisted me was very pleasant. She spoke throughout the waxing session with a gentle tone of voice. She distracted me from the pain of my waxing by talking to me with full throttle conversation about stories and such. I appreciated the effort and the thought she put into the level of customer service she delivered. Overall a very good experience. It turned out well. Kelly was great! She waxed my nose, eyebrows, and underarms. Believe it or not I didn't feel anything for the nose, just a little pressure but I was sooooo scared! My eyebrows look amazing, I love that she actually listened to me, unlike some other places. Underarms are definitely uncomfortable and sting but it is so worth avoiding razor burn. Kelly is so friendly and she's great at explaining everything she's doing. She's very knowledgeable and a great conversationalist. Alright, I'll take the last word. I couldn't understand this owner's enthusiastic, rapid responses to my review--but now I do. Just google the owner's name. They were in the news during lockdown. About masking. It all makes sense now, why my mask was such a trigger and the offer to accommodate a client with a mask was so performative. If it's hysterical, it's historical. I was hesitant to pay this much for a Brazilian wax but it is so worth it. I've been twice now and it was super quick and clean. Both ladies who did the wax were super nice and made me feel calm and relaxed. Their wax is WAY less painful than most, I used to go to European wax center and this is like 1,000 times better and less painful. My hair grew back really thin and it lasted a while. Definitely my new spot. Also it's really aesthetically pleasing there is cool wooden decor and really beautiful art on the wall. read more

Found a last minute appointment about a year ago at the Bush street location and they suggested sugaring and I've never looked back. I go to the Divisadero location now and my favorite ladies are Dani and Sally. Both of them are very efficient, make the whole thing as painless as possible and are fun to talk to. Shay thinks of everything! I felt so comfortable there and she is very nice. I hate getting waxed at places that demand you strip from the waist down and expect everyone to feel comfortable getting naked with a stranger.
