My son has been attending that school for a few years and we love all the teachers and staff. They all care for our children as if it was one of their own child. The class sizes are small and each class has a teacher and teacher assistant. Plus some children also have behavioral therapist in the classroom. Which is great because the teachers are able to teach each child independently. Which i love because it doesn't hold any child back at the level they are. The therapists that work at the school are also amazing. I am grateful for everyone at the school. If it wasn't for them, my child would not be where he is now. My son started school barely speaking and now we can not get him to stop talking. But we love it. To us, its music to our ears.

I am extremely disappointed with the way Dr. Katia Araujo handled my relative's assessment…read more To be completely clear, my relative did not choose Dr. Araujo and was not seeing her for ongoing therapy. She was assigned to him specifically to conduct an assessment. The entire interaction lasted less than 15 minutes. In that extremely short amount of time, Dr. Araujo made the decision that my relative should be sent to the hospital for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation based on what he disclosed during the conversation. He was being honest about thoughts he had experienced in the past, but he was not expressing a current intention or plan to harm himself or anyone else. What is incredibly concerning to me is how someone can make such a serious decision about another person's life after speaking with them for less than 15 minutes. She did not know him, did not have an established therapeutic relationship with him, and, from our perspective, did not take enough time to understand the difference between discussing past thoughts and presenting an immediate danger. An involuntary psychiatric hospitalization is not a minor consequence. It can be frightening and traumatic, and it can have consequences that extend far beyond the day of the assessment. It can affect someone's personal life, employment, reputation, and future opportunities. That is an enormous amount of responsibility to place on a decision made after such a brief interaction. What makes this even more upsetting is that my relative was actually trying to get help. He was willing to talk openly because he believed he was speaking with a mental-health professional who would listen and understand the full context. Instead, he ended up in a situation where he felt that being honest was used against him. After this happened, we spoke with other professionals who expressed serious concern and disappointment regarding how the situation was handled. That was incredibly validating because our family was left wondering how a situation could escalate so drastically after such a short assessment. I understand that mental-health professionals have a responsibility to take safety concerns seriously. However, that responsibility should also include conducting a careful, thorough assessment and making an informed decision based on the entire situation, rather than making an extremely serious determination after barely getting to know the person. This experience has completely destroyed our trust in Dr. Araujo. My relative went into the assessment expecting to be heard and evaluated professionally. Instead, he left with an experience that was frightening, humiliating, and potentially consequential for his future. I sincerely hope other people considering this provider understand how serious the consequences of these decisions can be and ask questions about how assessments are conducted before placing their trust in her. Based on our family's experience, I would absolutely not recommend Dr. Katia Araujo.
