I had an appointment with Gary at Rhoads bookkeeping and TAX a week and a half ago. I drove 3 hrs to meet him and discuss tax issues. He never showed up and I have yet to receive a call from him to rebook my appointment. If he can't stick to scheduled appointments that he sets, I wouldn't trust him to be accurate on your tax returns. read more

Let me start by saying that my husband had a question regarding his W4 form. The form was not what he was used to seeing in the past, as he hasn't filled one out in over a decade. He hasn't needed to because he worked for the same company until they relocated, for 8 years, and then we were homeless for 2 at which time he did not work because he had nowhere to leave the family while he did so. Anyway, he contacted Mr. Rhoads to ask about changes to dependent allowances. Mr. Rhoads told him to claim 0 overall, as it "will keep you from paying too much or too little". Well, on my husband's 1st paycheck, we took a HUGE hit. To the tune of 1100.00. My husband called Mr. Rhoads back and asked him what was up with that and he said "Well of course, you had the max withheld!", as if he had not told him previously that claiming 0 would keep him from paying either too much or too little. We needed the money that was withheld to assure that we do not lose our new home and for badly needed vehicle repairs. We now have to choose between the 2. When it comes down to either potentially losing your home after being homeless for 2 years or losing your only means of traveling back and forth to work so that you don't lose employment AND the new home, it is a hard place to be in. My husband SHOULD have been able to trust what he was told. After all, Mr. Rhoads does this for a living and came highly recommended. Because of this, we did not double check him and took him at his word. Moral of the story is that just because someone has done this as their living for years and SHOULD have some form of professionalism, does not mean that they do. I would not recommend using his services, they may just cost you more than money. We cannot afford to wait for tax time next year and needed this money to live on. Now we are stuck choosing between bad and worse, without any recourse. Mr. Rhoads, if you read this, this is what you ultimately cost us. We worked hard on getting to this point and getting back onto our feet, after seeing financial disaster. Our only fault in this is trusting that what YOU told my husband was the truth. It is extremely unfortunate that it was not. Please, do NOT do this to anyone else, ever again. You may have thought getting us a big refund was being kind. We live paycheck to paycheck, throughout the year and were in need of this money to be able to do that. Essentially, the most unkind thing that you could have done, is what you did. Not acceptable. We still haven't seen the entirety of the impact and have no idea how bad the fallout will be, once it's all said and done. Anxiety is high. I hope that you sleep well tonight, because we haven't been since we found out about all of this 4 days ago. But since it doesn't directly effect you, I'm sure you could care less. I ought to come to your office and have you explain why you told my husband a lie that cost us so much, to my son and my disabled mother. But again, I am certain that you could care less, so I won't bother. Hopefully, you will put some thought into what trouble you might be causing for people in the future. That is, at present, the best that we can hope for as far as you are concerned. We will be praying for you. read more

The man that runs this business is just a plain crook. I manage my father's trust and was under the impression that we had to file yearly taxes I asked this company to file taxes for the trust. For two years the man that runs this business pretended to prepare taxes for the trust, then come to find out trusts do not need to file taxes. I was informed by the state monitoring the trust that any and every tax preparer or accountant is fully aware of laws governing tax preparation and that trusts do not need to file taxes. For two years he charged $225 for a total of $550 to falsely prepare tax documents for a trust he knew did not need to file taxes. When I reached out to the Rhoads as I was told to do by the state of Idaho to get a refund,all my attempts to address the situation were completely ignored and he refused to return my phone calls or emails. He completely took advantage of the situation which is just bad business. If you're thinking about getting your taxes done by a man such as this,I would urge you to reconsider! What a fraud. read more
