The price for rental makes it super reasonable for family events without breaking the bank. Downstairs is perfect for baby/bridal showers, funeral collations, reunions, fundraisers and large birthday parties. Upstairs is more intimate and works for small family gatherings you don't want to have at home or even small reunions, birthdays or team events. Staff is always helpful and the organization does a lot of work for the local community so we love supporting them when we're looking to rent a space.

There was an open area and then thick plastic which protected you from the wind and created "inside" type section. Sadly,med didn't see any seals up close and only pops of their heads in the distance. I think called this a bay tour and explaining seal sightings might happen would manage expectations. Even if we had seen more, it doesn't see, like we could have gotten close enough to really observe them because of safety and protection regulations. I love the cause and supporting this organization and enjoy any type of boat tour. I think if you're expecting to see and photograph seals up close, you'll be disappointed. I was happy to explore and learn about Rose Island. The price was fair, especially if you only do the one hour tour. Staff was friendly and answered questions.

They also give ID vouchers for people who are in need of an ID and don't have the funds for it, they also help pay off in court finds you may have, they connect you with a caseworker to help you with different aspects of your life whether that's in need of a job, finding a doctor, sitting up appointments whatever it is that you need help with they set you up with somebody who can help or direct you on how to do something . As far as I know there are free CDL classes, free culinary classes, and free carpentry classes. There is access to transportation and they will help you set up medical rides or bus passes daily weekly or a monthly. It really is impossible to go hungry and Providence because of this place offering their hot breakfast with juice milk and even coffee. They also offer lunch between the hours of 11 and 12:00 every day. There's help for different kinds of people, do you need help mentally? They have groups for that including substance abuse, you need help getting on methadone or Suboxone or even just a simple medications such as tylenol? It will help you set up appointments with your doctors. If you don't know how to fill out any applications they help you with that as well! They have multiple people that speak different languages so there is help for everybody here. Sometimes there are research groups that compensate you. They also have a program called hands up if you come every Tuesday at 8:30 in the morning you can sign up to work twice a week for 3 weeks and make $50 each time. They also can help you get housing or some type of shelter they will connect you directly with the resources or phone numbers or people that you need to speak with if you really want help it will help you to their fullest.

Sandywoods is a planned residential arts and agriculture community that opened in Tiverton, RI in 2010. They offer live affordable concerts year round and are a BYOB and BYOF venue. They have tables for eight, but can seat up to 150 people with one of the best acoustical systems in a beautiful room. Our tickets were $12 and today's 8 hour Folk Festival is "pay what you can". They offer monthly Contra Dancing, open mic night, classes, etc. Brook Williams was great - reminded us of a musician we heard at The Narrows for three times the price. Our only regret was waiting so long to go here!

The Audubon Society proves that that just isn't true--there is plenty of incredible wildlife right here in Rhode Island! It costs $6 to go through the exhibit inside the education center, but it's free to walk through the trails and meadow. The exhibit is definitely oriented towards kids, but there is plenty for adults to enjoy too. Each section is based around a Rhode Island ecosystem and has a mixture of models and live animals. There are also two red-tailed hawks kept in captivity outside the building. Probably the coolest part of my visit was walking out to the osprey nest by the water. So cool to see the two ospreys guarding their chicks! This is a manageable, affordable place to visit with kids, or just a fun stop if you love nature! I definitely paid more attention to the wildlife around me on the bike path after stopping in here!

It was actually started to help stop the destruction of wild birds for the commercial use of their feathers. Whole populations of great egrets and other beautiful birds were almost decimated because some fool decided the feathers looked cool on stupid hats. Fortunately some wise people cared. The Society also was also instrumental in stopping the use of DDT, established Rhode Island's first coastal cleanup, helped fight damning of rivers, promoted the effective Rhode Island recycling program and much, much more. The state of Rhode Island would be a much dirtier, stinkier, crummier and far less beautiful place if not for the tireless and continuing efforts of the society. The building in Smithfield is the state headquarters and it has a great library, cool gift shop and some pleasant hiking trails. They organize trips and programs for both kids and adult and is a great place to get information on conservation or natural science. The folks there are always helpful and filled with dedication and will patiently take the time to answer any and all stupid questions. The society is now the state's largest private land owner with over 9,500 acres of wild habitat and open spaces. Places where critters can be wild and free. They also operate 14 wildlife refuges where people can quietly hike and exist in harmony with the wild creatures. For some reason many people seem intent on destroying the wild and pristine. The clean and pure. The Audubon Society will always be there to protect the woods, waters and wilderness. There are enough plastic flowers, synthetic materials and cement jungles. Thanks to the Audubon Society people can still see the wild, pure and unstained world.

This is a totally free event where they light bonfires in the waterway and have live music, art installations and light shows. There were a lot of people but there was plenty of space so we didn't feel crowded. It starts around sunset and goes for hours. There are boats that travel along the waterway and tent to the fires, adding wood and making sure everything is safe and stays burning. They also offer gondola rides but you should book those in advance. It was very peaceful and romantic. It's completely outdoors so we brought our dog and many of the restaurants have outdoor seating where you can eat and enjoy the sights. There is also a street fair area adjacent to the waterway that offers food, art, jewelry,etc. We saw a glass blowing demonstration and music acts. That section was quite busy and we did feel a little crowded there. I had never really experienced anything like this before and I enjoyed it. I wish we had something like this where I am and if you're in the area and you see this event, you should definitely stop and check it out.

We knew we were going to be in the area around the time of WaterFire so we made sure to find a…read moreplace to stay and spend the night here. We had never been to anything like this or even really heard that much about it so we were interested to see what it was. WaterFire started about 30 years ago as an art installation that was meant to bring more people to the area and it definitely works. They light the braziers along the rivers, pipe beautiful music through the air and have volunteers on boats going from spot to spot, tending the flames and refilling the wood. There are tons of people there. Just walking and enjoying being outside and being together. The vibe is so relaxed and so peaceful but yet busy and exciting at the same time. It's kind of hard to describe unless you see it for yourself. We headed out around dusk when there was still light in the sky and it was a little chilly but I soon forgot about that. Words can't really express how you're just sort of drawn into the piece and beauty of this whole thing. I feel like this review can't even do it justice. We walked around for over an hour but our dog did start to get cold even though we had her in her jacket, so we headed back to where we were staying for a little while. Once it was dark and we were all warmed up, we headed out again because it was just so enjoyable to be there that we really wanted to come back. The second time we wandered through the street fair area and looked at some of the tables and street vendors. I got a really cool ring that was made out of a an old ornate spoon. There were also food vendors but everything was pretty busy so we ended up getting food on the way back to our hotel. There were families and groups of friends and couples, all just soaking in the magic and ambiance and ultimately we drifted back towards the water again because that is where the real magic is. We sat for a long time watching people float by in gondolas and watching the volunteers slowly push the boats through the canals, adding wood to the flames causing them to rise up. Everyone was friendly and in a good mood and strangers were chatting with each other. There was a real sense of community and peace. This was honestly one of the most romantic evenings I've had with my husband in a long time as well. We nuzzled noses and shared a few kisses to the music and the flame. If you are anywhere near Providence during WaterFire, don't even think about it just go. It's totally free! You don't need tickets or even to plan really. You can just enjoy the fire light and the music and being together in a beautiful place. It's absolutely unforgettable.
