This place is walking distance from my home. I had noticed it but just thought they did dance there. Then I heard Will Durst was performing there. First time seeing Will perform, first time in the space. Both were exquisite. Especially when they opened the windows for cross ventilation. Will Durst is extraordinary! Wicked smart and funny. I attended a private party here - what a fun place to dance and party. The food was set up downstairs, with a DJ and drinks upstairs. It was like being a nightclub or someone's groovy loft! I just attended my second show here and I'm a fan. I love the atmosphere with lots of exposed brick, wood and glass. It feels like a theater in a beautiful loft. With the show upstairs, food, drink and gorgeous art installations live on the ground floor. Both shows were fantastic and well priced. I've seen world class Persian music and dance and Taiko drumming here in the theater that seats around 200 people. Seating was comfortable and sight lines are great. They run all kinds of music and dance classes here. I'm especially impressed with the program for "Island Music" that brings music from islands around the world to the island of Alameda. What a great thing for a community (Alameda) where over 50 languages are spoken. It's lovely that this theater provides diverse performances for a diverse community. I can't wait to go again soon and hope to see you there! read more

This venue is conveniently located near Nob Hill Foods. I attended a fundraising Zumbathon here and the room where it was held is upstairs and a bit on the small side but we all had a good time dancing with our instructors and dancing for a good cause. read more

This is a fantastic place to take a dance class. I've been attending Wendy's Wednesday belly dance classes, and they are top-notch. I highly suggest them if you are curious about belly dance, especially if you are interested in learning American Tribal Style. Rhythmix Cultural Works is an awesome place. I've been to a good number of shows here, from Taiko to comedy, and I am consistently impressed with the high quality of arts programming they bring to our island which was formerly a peninsula until a group of legislators decided ships would like to pass through. I do some volunteer work here, so maybe I'm biased. But I also thought this place was awesome before I did work here, so that somewhat softens the hypothetical accusations lobbied against me. Prices are always reasonable on the shows, and there is usually a great drink selection downstairs, either wine and beer, or wine and beer and hard booze. All of nature's sweet sweet candy. And if you've never been to Bingo here, you're missing out. Where else can you throw crumpled up pieces of paper at seventy year old grandmas without drawing societal condemnation? I don't know either. read more

Michele Ellson, editor. -------------------------- "Tommy's Point" at Rhythmix Cultural Works Alameda artists d'Arci Bruno, Pons Maar, and Marc Ribaud present the spoils of their quixotic expedition to the former Naval Air Station in "Tommy's Point" at Rhythmix Cultural Center. Collages made of such treasures as a comb, spark plug, and bits of rusted metal are exhibited along with an elaborate display of beautifully backlit sea glass and more driftwood than you can shake a stick at. These found objects are supported by photographs, meticulously crafted, authentic-looking, pseudo historical documents, and more than a few inside jokes. The artists clearly had a lot of fun creating this lighthearted exhibit together and this translates into an enjoyable experience for the viewer. "Tommy's Point" runs through April 2. Well, tucked away amongst the estuary is a wonderful place called Rhythmix. Fun stuff...for everyone. Kids activities, dances for kids and their parents (with wine and beer for the grow-ups!!), yoga, adult classes, taiko, art gallery, bingo (circus, might I add), and a wonderful performance space that you can rent....my husband and I are having our post wedding part there next year and are stoked!! Janet and Jennifer are sweethearts, funky and super down to earth... Community focused, art and performance saavy, kid and adult friendly...all in an absolutely gorgeous space with amazing people to run the joint!! There is something for anyone!! read more

Bingo here is great. They have a group of people that do a form of crazy comedy bingo like a theatre, but you can still play bingo too. They have pizza and snacks if hungry and sell beer and wine as well as sodas and water. I thought it was totally unique and fun for a Thursday night with my friends. 18 and up event so no kids there and people just have a good time. It runs only once a month on the 2nd Thursday but I always double check the dates since I can never remember what is the 2nd Thursday. :) Hope this helps. read more

I just co-hosted a meetup at Rhythmix last week and was really happy with the result. The staff went out of their way to help us plan and set up our event. They ha d a complete bar for our members, and at very reasonable prices. the PA system worked well and the main hall is spacious and beautiful. They even provided tables and chairs so we didn't have to arrange for them elsewhere. Rhythimix is a quick bus hop from Fruitvale BART and they have plenty of parking. Many of our members commented positively on the venue. I will definitely host other events here. Both our organizing team and our members really enjoyed our Rhythmix experience, and are eager to return. You can't blame the venue when a meetup doesn't go off as planned, Kimberly. Went to an evening art gallery reception recently. Art gallery and reception downstairs. Stage for performances upstairs. What a great facility. A real cultural addition to Alameda. Small parking lot with easy street parking nearby. Not sure about the Rhythmix Cultural Works logo. Sure looks like a rip-off of the Rotary Club logo. read more

I'll keep this short because I really could go on for days about this place and its workers. I was married here on June 2 of this year, and not only did d'Arci make the planning a breeze, she and the other 2 women working were there for every bridal need and question I had. This was our first time trying to make such a large event run smoothly, so keeping to schedule wasn't our strong point, but they guided us along pretty well. Needless to say, tension and emotions were on high alert for everyone involved, but my groom and I enjoyed every moment of the evening, which is the important part. We moved to Alameda about 4 years ago, and at the time had no idea we would become parents. As most who have experienced Alameda know, this is a very unique town. It offers the best of living close to a major city, while maintaining a small-town charm without being too suburban. Rhythmix to me symbolizes what is great about Alameda. Full of interesting, original and community-focused classes and events, it's a place everyone can feel welcome. I've been involved in the recent Shimmy Shimmy Kids' Dance parties and we are having a BLAST. What's great is that the people at Rhythmix are creative and focused on their mission, without being artsy snobs, elitist hipsters...there is none of that. As our daughter gets older, I'm so excited to get her more involved in the art classes and summer camps...Rhythmix is now an extended part of our family! read more

I went to see this new venue last week and it is INCREDIBLE!!! The performance space is beautiful, and has Meyer Sound speakers. What? That's just over-the-top good! They have really interesting classes and an art gallery. Alameda should be proud! read more

There's even an art gallery. Some really good world music bands play here. They also have a wide variety of cultural events. Come here and learn about the world. I like the artsy décor. This review is only for customer service....I have not been to the actual location....but i would like to share the superb customer service i received over the phone...YEs over the phone..First off the call was answered in a timely and professional manner. And Julieann (spelling??) was excellent at listening to my inquiry. I was looking to rent a space for an event. My daughters and I are taking all kinds of classes at Rhythmix. They enjoy the circus and Capoeira classes. I have fun doing capoeira and taking Bean's djembe drumming class on wed. night. We recently took the Family Rhythm class and had a blast. The venue is beautiful and the art shows fun to attend. read more

My daughter has attended Rhythmix camps for Spring Break and the summer. We've also done some circus workshops and craft workshops. All I can say is "AWESOME." The staff is fun, intelligent and talented. Where do they find these people? The venue is convenient, interesting and historical. But most of all, the offerings are like nowhere else. Circus skills and bookmaking are among our favorites, and when we've done the "variety" type sessions, where there are three different activities in a day, the combo is great. These have included capoeira with bookmaking with drumming. And the price is very reasonable. Not cheap, but not as ridiculous as some places. It's worth every penny. This is also the kind of place that you feel good going to because you know you are supporting a Cultural Outlet in your community. read more

It doesn't get better than this for an evening of entertainment. I've attended concerts, plays, bingo, and more at this venue and ever time is an absolute delight. We held our wedding at Rhythmix last November, after searching for a finished space that would reflect our artscene-positive tendencies. d'Arci started us out until Maude took over. d'Arci (who has since moved on to another job) knew the ropes and gave us great information (pro-tip - Rhythmix doesn't have a lot going on for small children at an event like a wedding, so it's best to leave them at home, or at least hire an onsite sitter). Maude patiently saw us through subsequent walkthroughs with our caterer and tape measures. Rhythmix is a beautiful space, and we enjoyed being able to use the K-Gallery for our own prep and part of our reception (while the upper room was being "turned"). As fabulous as our wedding was, we're happy that it's behind us, and we're looking forward to attending more arty events at Rhythmix. read more

My 7 year old daughter has been taking capoeira on Wednesdays and she absolutely loves it! She says it is quite a workout, and she loves the many components to the class. I was worried that it might take awhile to get there from where we live in N. Oakland, but it's actually really fast! Much faster than it takes us to get to classes that she takes in Berkeley. She's looking forward to trying other classes at Rhythmix Cultural Works. What a find! read more

We went last night for the first time to monthly Bingo night and had a blast! The theme was Funky Motown and everything from the music, Bingo caller and dancing was awesome. For $25 bucks you get 10 Bingo games with Cash prizes. We went with a large group and had a great table reserved. Bring cash for bar and pizza. Reserve online-this event does sell out and we saw people turned away at the door. Costumes optional-we saw a real mix of people going all out with the theme and many in regular street clothes. Very friendly crowd-the organizers run the event like clock work. read more

My kids (11 year olds) have attended summer and spring break camps here. It is the only thing they've ever asked to go back to! They learned a lot and had great fun. They LOVE the circus camp. The counselors are very attentive and everyone has a WONDERFUL time. Cynthis is AWESOME. Learn the diablo! We actually live 2 hours away, but come up here for a week because the place is so GREAT. We've also been to the Halloween Party - they do an AMAZING job - Plenty of unique things to do and see. Rides, food, attractions.... oh yeah, try the BINGO - it's not like your grandma's bingo - great prizes too. read more

Worst experience. To be CLEAR - Rhythmix is a business. It is not just the "cool" name of a meetup. They use Meetup poorly to get people in the door and then don't take very good care of them... Then I got an email basically telling me that it was my fault.... This was absolutely the worst Meetup experience that I have ever had. I drove all the way over there and was told that there was no one from the meetup there that I was the only one to show-not even the event planner- She said there was a meetup sign on the table and that I was the only person. I did not want to pay $25 to go to sit by myself. The hostess's attitude was too bad that's the way it is and she said that she couldn't help it if people rsvp and are no shows. I asked if the organizer was there and she said No. She said that the company posts the events and that they do not have representatives there... just a reserved table. She made me extremely uncomfortable. I have run Meetup groups for over 6 years and cannot believe this experience. Too bad because it looks like the type of place that I would like. Really disappointed. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. To be CLEAR - Rhythmix is a business. It is not just the "cool" name of a meetup. read more

BINGO! You honestly have never played like this before. Crazy fun. Costumes. Pizza. Dancing. Full bar. Music. If you're looking for big cash prizes there's usually a $200 one on the last game but the rest are small. We go for the fun. The ladies that work there are AWESOME!! I mean really awesome.
