I saw this place yesterday while eating from the neighbouring Din Tai Fung. "Wow, this place serves ribs and burgers", I thought to myself. In my mind I pictured something really juicy and knew I had to return.
So today I supressed my cravings of a bacon and egg roll in the morning (on top of the beef bee hoon which I already had for breakfast), as well as the sushi craving I had at lunch, and marched towards R&B. I do my usual thing and look for what's least glitzy and most "signature" looking - the Original Burger, and a serving of their supposedly famous chips.
I only managed to read other reviews while I was waiting for my lunch and can say that, in terms of waiting time, my docket said that my served time was 12:39pm, and I was tucking away into my meal shortly before 12:49pm, so that's pretty quick.
With regards to the burger, my first impression was "wow, man that's small for $10 worth of burger". It looked, and was a little on the small side, but the patty was thick so that's ok. It was also as juicy as I expected. Probably better with slightly more sauce rather than mainly relying on meat juices. I'm contributing the $10 price tag on the location - hopefully at less glamorous locations they'd charge around $7-8 for this burger?
The chips were great for chips. They were freshly fried and were very crisp and golden. But I think I'd rather the ones are grill'd, partly because of the herbs on the chips, and also the mayo which you can order with them. I don't think I saw any specialty mayo/sauces on the menu, if you see them, just drop me a note. For $6, with the portion size (quite decent) and for the location, I suppose that's ok, but I think I'd rather it be 10% smaller and came with a small tub of sauce. And I'd probably pay $5 for them normally.
I'm going to try the ribs on another day too to see if they're any good. read more
