Our hotel when checking in highly recommended this place right across the street. We love Thai and thought why not. The place would normally be dismissed as it barely has a sign and the exterior is rough to say the least. The interior is not much better. We walked in and you have to order at the counter once you figure out what you would like to order. The lady working the counter was very efficient and took our order and when it was ready delivered to our table. The tom yum soup was very tasty and full of ingredients. The service was ok the atmosphere could use improvement, we noticed it wasn't very warm it didn't appear they had any heat on ,dark and gloomy atmosphere , most of all the appetizers we ordered were over cooked and had a greasy taste and texture. We met someone here for lunch when we came to my wife's home town on a day trip to ride on the bike trail. As with a lot of restaurants that mostly do takeout, even for sit-down service you order at the counter and they will bring it out to you. My wife ordered chicken wings and crab Rangoons. She let me have some and they were excellent. I went with the Pad Thai and it was as good as most places, though they didn't offer ground beef and I should have gone with chicken. But I selected beef and the pieces were tougher than I like, as it often is in these places for my taste. But I saved it out and our cats were very grateful. So although we may be likely to try other places when we visit Belfast, I would gladly go back to Rice and Noodles again if the opportunity arises. read more

It's a hole in a wall serving authentic Thai dishes. Service was okay, the woman at the counter had a flat affect, no smile, no personality but no big deal. You order at the counter and they will bring the food to your table. Excellent flavor and medium spicy is SPICY! Enjoyed the apps, shrimp dumpling and chicken wings were delish and main meal as well. Why not 5 stars? Well, the price for dinner was $16 but the portions were small, at first we thought it was lunch special. Just a little overpriced for this side of Maine. Rice & Noodle would not get 4 stars if it were in Manhattan or Boston or L.A. where there's tons of great Thai food, but here in coastal Maine it's a little more of a standout. I ate here 3 x in less than a week! Right across from hotel and is currently carry out only. Time 1 The garlic chicken was 5 stars! The first fresh spring rolls I got were 5 stars too. 2nd Time. The crispy chicken Thai was not crispy chicken. It was crispy noodles and just cooked chicken not crispy fried. I would rate it 3 stars due to lack of meat and it was so salty I couldn't finish it. 3rd time. Chicken curry was good but had pineapple in it. The fresh spring rolls had same ingredients as last time but the outside was broken on one and they were so loosely rolled they fell apart - I'm sure it wasn't same person as Monday. Don't let the outside worn down appearance fool you. The food was fresh and blossomed with flavor. it rivaled any of the Thai I have had in Boston. It appears they do a lot of takeout which may be why you may question why there aren't a lot of cars in the parking lot.. service was attentive, but it is not fancy service just very friendly service and the waitress was taking phone orders and preparing food for takeout. The food is well seasoned and tasty, especially the Thai dishes. The other Asian dishes are above average (though a little sweet) but not what they specialize in. Sampled my husband's masaman curry, which was definitely better prepared and presented than its diluted counterparts in many places. The fried appetizers are perhaps a little greasy, but we enjoyed the chive pancakes. If you have a sweet tooth, try the Thai iced tea and coconut ice cream. A really great surprise in Belfast! This is a real hole in the wall -- or more like a real house on the side of the highway. When you go in it's a bit gloomy because of the paint choices on walls and ceilings. You order and pay first at the counter and then, quickly and efficiently, you get really good Thai food delivered to your table. (Most people come get takeout.). Our drunken noodles and panang curry and my sons chicken teriyaki were all delicious. This would definitely rate as above average Thai food in NYC. And after too much fried food and a disappointing Thai meal in another Maine town, this dinner was a highlight of the week. read more

The food was delicious! It was so good at lunch we ordered separate dishes for take out dinner that night! It's was MLK day, a holiday, so there weren't any other customers. We got great service! We stayed about 1.5 hours since we weren't holding up a table. It's a cute hole in the wall sort of place. A bit cold but the woman who took our orders told us to sit by the heater for that exact reason. I can imagine when they're busy there is plenty of heat in that tiny place. Overall great experience! This place is a dive! Coming from a metropolis, this is the best Thai food I've had in a long time! In fact, the family and I would come here frequently if we lived in the area. It's a self service place...order and pay at the counter. Then the food will be brought to your table. They do takeout, and a self service sort of dining room is open, it had a fan and air conditioning with the heat this summer. We were passing through Belfast and wanted Asian food for lunch. Found this place on Yelp with its great reviews and decided to try it. So happy we did! We called ahead for takeout. They bring the food out to your car. We ordered the chicken wings, Singapore curry noodles, and a spicy shrimp fried rice. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. If we lived nearby we would get food from there often. I agree the outside needs renovating but that doesn't deter from the yummy food. I hope more people order from this restaurant. Picked up takeout food here on a Sunday. It was the only Thai restaurant in the area that was open on a Sunday. It has a fairly nondescript exterior, but the interior atmosphere/decor is fine. The woman who took our order was friendly. We picked up a spicy basil noodle dish and a regular pad Thai. For both dishes we were asked to pick a spice level, 1 through 5. Most Thai restaurants don't ask you to pick a spice level for Pad Thai because most Thai restaurants don't offer it as a spicy dish. I am so glad this place does! The pad Thai was delicious, as was the other dish. If I lived near here, and not 5 hours away, I would pick up food here all the time. I saw several reviews on Yelp from people saying that this place has good Thai food "for Maine", but that it didn't hold up to the standard of a New York City Thai place, or other big city Thai places. This is nonsense. I have lived in NY, Seattle, Washington D.C., and currently live in Boston and this place is as good or better than many Thai restaurants in all of those cities. Good food and a friendly, helpful staff. They call it "self serve" where you order food at the front desk and then they bring it to you at your table. They clean your table too so other than having to go to the front to get whatever extra things you need, it is mostly full service.
