I was grateful to find this Chinese restaurant while traveling since Asian food is my favorite cuisine. And while there were several positive things about this place, the food ultimately was not my favorite. First impressions- plenty of parking and a lot of seating available inside. The place was very clean, although it's a bit unusual to find carpeting in most dining establishments these days. The menu for this place a really huge - it honestly takes a bit of time to read through it and decide what is best for you depending on what you're in the mood for. I decided on two of my favorites that I frequently order from Chinese restaurants - hot and sour soup and kung Pao chicken. I'm used to the flavors being different at different restaurants, but for me I was not a fan of the soup or my chicken dish. I appreciate the large portions since I was hungry, but the flavors were just not at all great to me. Maybe you'll find some items in this menu thot are to your liking. read more

Food needs improvement... first visit to Maine so we didn't have a high expectation but this wasn't that enjoyable at all. Steer clear of the General Tso chicken. Looked so old and tasted very off. Sweet and sour sauce was odd but ok. Broccoli wasn't cooked...... and the noodles were definitely reheated but ended up being the best part of the meal. Eh. Service was incredible though. read more

I'm not originally from Maine, when we moved to the area I was happy to find Ming's. I'm a big General Tso fan. Ming's Tso's is very different. I enjoyed it but it's just a bit different from the Mid Atlantic variety. We tend to eat vegetarian so we opt for tofu. My daughter really likes the orange tofu. read more

Visiting friends and we ordered food to go since there is no seating except for lunch. We ordered a variety of dishes for four people. Bland. That's it. Boneless pork was fatty and chewy and burnt. Yes all three. Chicken fingers maybe we're good when fresh but 20 minutes later were meh. General Gao or similar was not eaten. Only three pieces did they eat. Beef teriyaki didn't seem fully cooked. Post COVID Ming's is not the same. I have only ordered a couple of times since COVID and and both have been disappointing. The first order I picked up the egg rolls were overdone on the outside and underdone on the inside. Today the fried rice was dry and lacked flavor. The chicken chow mein lacked flavor as well. The noodles were fine, the amount of vegetables and chicken adequate but no flavor!. I even tried adding soy sauce, which I usually do not and nope did not help. The beef spareribs were disappointing in size, two small chunks and some bits with some fatty pieces. Very disappointed as before COVID hit Mings was consistently a good choice. Since my last review, something has gone awry. We have been back a couple of times since my last review and not really enjoyed the food. We figured it was just a one-off and gave them another try. Called in our order after a long day of hiking in ANP. Food was ready in about 15 minutes and was piping hot. We ordered 1 egg roll appetizer, 1 orange chicken, and 1 General Tso's. Since it's only takeout for the time being we took the food across the street to the Veterans park to enjoy at one of the picnic tables. Glad we looked close by as we had to go back for utensils, napkins and to grab some extra white rice. Total meal came out to $40 dollars before tip which seems a little high compared with what I find in Pittsburgh where I reside but maybe normal for this part of the country? I ordered the Sezchuan beef and got sweet vegetables and about 5 strip of throw away beef parts, tiny "beef parts" probably a whole bell pepper, a whole onion for 23 dollars I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN! Visiting from out of town and heard about Ming's via recommendation from our Airbnb host. While the portions of orange chicken and general tso were very large, the price for two meals seemed a little high. Call me crazy, but two entrees and a side of fried rice at Panda Express is cheaper and tasted about the same as this meal with one entree and a side of white rice. However, the service was fast and friendly and they did give us extra white rice, free of charge. They are currently take out only so we went directly across the street to the waterfront and enjoyed our meal on a picnic bench. My friends recommended this place. It's the go to place for lunch after visiting Fort Knox and Penobscot Bridge Observatory. They are only open for take out. The service was fast. It took them 15mins to complete our 3 lunch orders. The prices were reasonable especially the lunch special. The orange Tofu was so good. I like how crunchy the tofus were and the sauce was good too. Standard gloppy Chinese food. It seems Mainers want their food fried and/or covered in gloppy gravy. No such thing as stir frying or lightly sautéed in these parts. Grabbed lunch here while passing through the town. Portions were pretty generous for the price and the service was great. The veggies in cashew chicken consisted mostly of celery and it didn't seem particularly fresh. The taste of both dishes was a bit bland as other reviewers have mentioned. Honestly, it was only as bland as any other food I've consumed in Maine restaurants over the past 3 years... so... I have eaten Chinese food all over North America and Europe. I just moved to Bucksport so wanted to try this place. This is the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. I ordered beef with broccholi. Way over-salty, cheap cuts of broccholi stems instead of nice spears, loaded with onions, which were not described on the menu, and I hate. The beef was poor quality, very fatty and it was just awful. The fried rice had nothing in it, no egg, no veggies, no pork, nothing. Horrible. The chicken wings were flavorful but extremely tough. if you want Chinese in this part of Maine, go to Green Tea Cafe in Bangor. Don't bother with this. read more

Have eaten here once a month since we moved here in May. Best local Chinese food.. excellent egg rolls, chicken fingers and beef teriyaki. Tonight we had sesame chicken and beef with mushrooms. Mings Garden is typical Americanized Chinese food. The portions are good, the prices are average and the food is good. Once in a while, likely on slow days, the pork fried rice can be sub par but more often than not, everything is tasty. The waitstaff is always top notch. Very friendly and full of smiles. I've eaten at Mings probably 15-20 times a year since they opened the doors and I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

This place has always been one of my favorites. I used to drive here from Blue Hill or Castine with my friends in high school when we had enough money. I have more than once spent my last 7 dollars on a number 20. I was waiting until I could try it again to write a review. On my last trip home, I was looking forward to going to Ming's again almost as much as I was looking forward to eating lobster. When I did stop by they did not disappoint. Everything is good. This is where old cooking oil and the hopes of those of us who are fortunate enough to have access to really good American Chinese food go to die. During a recent visit I had the chance to get dinner for two at Ming's. The hot and sour soup was sweet, glutinous, and had virtually no discernible pieces of anything in it: only some tiny shredded bits of tofu and a whisper of pepper, very literally no bamboo shoots, no lily buds, no black mushrooms, no green onions, no rice vinegar, and no pork whatsoever--I mean, none. Its base was what looked and tasted like ground beef. It wasn't hot and sour soup...it was an impostor, and what sad tastes like. Our chicken and broccoli fared just a bit better, but the broccoli was flaccid and languishing in a bland and unremarkable brown sauce. No clean, bright flavors here. The chicken fried rice: here's where it got ugly. The rice was completely saturated in oil--I mean, copiously--and what tasted and smelled like old or burned oil, at that. There were, again, no identifiable bits of anything in it other than some tiny diced bits of meat. And it was beyond bland. Believe it or not, I'm not that picky--look, it's Chinese food. But the bottom line: on this night, at least, there was loads of room for improvement. read more

I give the staff and the service people a Five Star Plus. They are all incredibly friendly, helpful and just a pleasure to be with. The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere welcoming. Our food came out from the kitchen hot and fast. I thought the food lacked flaver and fresh ingredients, most everything seem to be in a heavy batter and deep fried. We ordered several different dishes and some of the people at my table enjoy the food. I found it very blah tasting. Please do not be afraid. Chinese food in Bucksport - you are probably concerned, I know. If you are passing through in January, there's not a whole heck of a lot open this far north but Ming's Garden will provide you with a regular old take out style Chinese meal for a good deal. The food is not bad and the service is fast and courteous. I admit, in the summer there's a whole lot of better seafood options around but it gets cold in Maine in the winter. Super disappointed. We came in from visiting in town and it was not at all what we expected. The portions of rice are very small and they have very minimal options which isn't ideal for someone who has dietary restrictions. Not to mention substituting things was extremely difficult as there was a misunderstanding amongst the staff. As everyone else described the staff is lovely. I ordered spicy beef as a take out dish and was surprised at how much more expensive the dishes are comparative to take out in other states. I figured ok well maybe they have exceptional chefs and the money will be worth it. To my shock however the dish didn't even seem like authentic Chinese food. The spicy beef seemed like an American style stew with large chunks of beef and really large vegetables and an overly sweet sauce I couldn't even pin point. The Chinese are notorious for shredding their beef and finely back slicing their vegetables and extremely particular about their sauces. Instead of real Chinese food I ended up with some chunks of beef and vegetables with an unidentifiable sauce. Even if the prices were relatively competitive I would not go back. read more

My boyfriend and I ate at Ming's last Tuesday evening while vacationing. We got there a little after 8, (they close at 9) and we were the only patrons dining in. The staff was very friendly, welcoming us warmly as we entered the restaurant, and our waitress was very efficient and gave us great service. I ordered veggie lo mein and egg rolls, and my guy had cashew chicken. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. It was very tasty, served very warm, and the portions were HUGE! In fact, I took an egg roll and over 1/2 of my lo mein back to our hotel. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the size of the portions you get. If we are ever back in Bucksport, we definitely will visit Ming's again! read more
