It's saddens me to venture into Uptown although it still echoes with past glory, but those sounds are being muffled by urban blight. Bill's doors are now metal, but venture inside and you're transported to Greece. Their products are fantastic, and we loaded up on olive oil, olives, and fresh feta cheese. The staff was fun and resonated with the joy of Greece. Bill's has survived for decades on Lake Street. I hope they continue to thrive despite the trouble around them. I do wish the city could step in and help jump start a renaissance of Uptown.

The retail shop is small but is packed with a diverse array of options. Eau Galle produces a lot of their own cheeses, especially ones in Italian styles, but the shop also hosts many cheese from across Wisconsin and abroad. Most tend to be firmer cheeses like cheddars and goudas, with few soft rinds and young blues. There is also cheese-themed home decor and apparel, and lots of accompaniments for cheese like jams, pickled vegetables, honeys, and many sausages. This is a perfect place to put together a gift basket for someone who enjoys good food! Oh, and there is alcohol, too, requisite New Glarus packs, local ciders, and wines. Fudges and candies offer temptation right at the checkout. The cashier was friendly and helpful. This is definitely a place that I hope to return to soon!

La Cosecha does an excellent job of keeping their shelves stocked with all my favorites and then some. I tried an avocado/habanero salsa here recently that was delicious. Besides keeping me in fire-breathing intensity, La Cosecha carries all kinds of Latin American staple foods that I want from Central and South America. They stretch from the Mexican north (tamale husks, steamers, stone mortar & pestle sets) all the way to the southern tip of Chile (frying dough for cheese empanadas).
