Had dinner with friends last night during the jazz crawl. It was fairly busy. Not too long of a wait time. It's counter service, they'll bring your food to the table. They don't sell any alcohol. It's a little different here. You order and pay, grab all your condiments, paper plates and utensils and sit yourself down. After you're done eating, you put your stuff away in a designated area including plates, cups, etc.. We got (1) spring roll - typical spring roll, not special. 2) fried bananas in egg-rolls style with whipped cream drizzled in chocolate sauce. My daughter and hubby didn't like it. The combination pho - broth was overly salty, the pineapple fried rice was a little plain with very little meat and the rice was not mixed thoroughly. Can still see the white rice. If you love pho and are coming through or live in eau claire, this is the place. I have tried all the pho in eau claire and this place is one of the best here. While other places have chicken broth or random stuff. Place is legit, the large size bowel is bigger than any other place here, and on Fridays, it's only 5 dallors only on top of that there appetizer also come out before there main course. Lol. Front lady is good and quick, dish comes out faster than other restaurants for sure. I would total recommend anyone to eat here. The food was great! I got the appetizer platter, mango sticky rice, and mango boba tea. I got my order to-go and it was ready within 15 minutes. All components of the appetizer platter were so good. The mango sticky rice was to die for! It was extremely delicious!!! The only complaints I have are with the mango boba tea. It was not tea at all; it was a mango slushy. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews for this restaurant. I noticed that most of the negative reviews are from individuals who creates an Yelp account to voice their opinion and never come back. With the limited Asian cuisine options in Eau Claire, Rice Palace happens to be a great place to stop in for lunch. The menu offers a variety of Asian Fusion dishes, mainly Thai dishes. If you want to be safe, I recommend trying one of the stir fry dishes. If you want to be spontaneous, try a curry-based dish. The owners are great people and do their best to serve the community Eau Claire. Overall, I had a great experience and look forward to visiting again in the near future. read more

I was staying at the hotel across the street and was craving some pho in this cold weather. The nice lady behind the counter was very friendly. Picked up my order which was a small vegetable pho in beef broth plus a veggie eggroll. Brought it back to my hotel room, rice palace doesn't have dine-in atm. Pho was hot and everything was packed nicely. I basically mixed everything to taste and winded up happily slurping a bowl of deliciousness! The flavors were amazing! Funny story. My husband and I go here for date night. I am that girl that orders everything on the menu and takes most of it home for my kids. Mostly because I have to try everything and no one else in the restaurant will share their meal with me! lol. Anyway, my husband ordered the fish. OMG, I was so grossed out. I had to line my eye view away from him so I couldn't see it. NOW, this is how it is supposed to be...they did nothing wrong. I had just never had this type of food before as it was my first time visiting. Our server was hilarious and told my husband to eat the eye of the fish....it is the best part! HAHAHA... We went back like a zillion times and now that covid hit they are only take out and I ain't doing that so my time with them came to an end. I ordered mango with sticky rice to go and it was one of the worst I've ever had. The rice was super dry and a little bit starchy tasting. Not enough coconut milk/sauce and the mango wasn't ripe at all. Most places take it off the menu of the mangoes aren't ready. That's what they should have done. read more

We only come here on ECJazz Festival, and we presume that this place gets their biggest nights on ECJazz weekend. Well that's the premise of this review, so there's a lot of grace. If you come with "buyer beware" attitude firmly in place, you'll survive the journey. Yes, they are the only Thai place on the whole street. And yes, the service is absolutely at glacial pace, because they have a crazy full dining room at Jazz Fest. And the tables will not be turned quickly, and they will take forever to come take your order. But when the food comes, you'll be glad for ensuring that ordeal, because it's real Thai food in Eau Claire, WI. Our party had Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, the Thai Wings, Grilled Beef Salad, Basil Fried Rice, and Cashew Chicken. It was all amazing. Oh BTW the prices are great. I wasn't sure about going to try Rice Palace, but I'm so glad I was talked into it! The good: all the food. We had both a spring roll and an egg roll. I love that you can order them individually. They were both very large and generous, and both were delicious. (And according to a sign on the wall, they were voted to have the best egg rolls! We could see why.) We also had curry noodles and drunken noodles. The tofu in the drunken noodles was absolutely perfect, and it was just the perfect amount of spiciness. (I ordered it medium spicy, and it was actually spicy. Wonderful!) The bad: the service and the ambiance. We were there for lunch and it was actually quite late in the day, nearly 2pm. I was surprised that it was so busy, and they actually handled it quite well. But the service was quite slow, unfortunately. I also wouldn't have called our server "friendly" at first but she did warm up to us! I also just didn't think it was a very comfortable place, but we were sat right in the middle of the room, and there were booths all around the room, which were full. So we felt kind of conspicuous. All in all, the good definitely outweighs the bad. The food was really excellent, and I would love to go back to try the curries, or the veggie pho! Looking forward to next time already. read more

I'm from out of town and was craving some spring rolls and curry and on trip advisor this place had okay reviews so I decided to try my luck. First of all- they don't have fried spring rolls (i don't eat eggs so couldn't do the egg rolls) and the lady on the phone told me that fried spring rolls were not a thing that existed... lol. I ordered two fresh spring rolls that would have been great if it weren't for the ungodly amount of cilantro in them, which was not listed on the menu (I hate cilantro!!!!) I also ordered the panang curry with tofu and... let's just say what I got was not panang curry. See attached photos!!! Maybe they used water instead of coconut milk... but really it did not taste like any panang curry I've ever had. We were in downtown Eau Claire, and happened to notice that this place had just opened recently. My daughter and I decided to give it a try, since we were both big thai fans. Although I know that the first few weeks are needed to iron out the kinks in a business, a couple things stood out that caused me to wonder whether I should have given it a few more weeks before visiting... The good: Extremely cheap, especially the appetizers/rolls. We had enough food for three people, and the bill only came to $15. I can also happily say that the deep fried bananas were a delightful treat, and I would get those again (but I'm not sure about the authenticity of those in Thailand...?). The not-so-good: the taste of the food. I ordered my ol' standbye favorite - Tofu Pad Thai. It's like the burger in american food restaurants - if you can't do that right, one starts to worry. I've never seen such colorless (and tasteless) pad thai before. To make it worse, everything was overcooked and gummy. We also ordered some shrimp rolls, egg rolls, and spring rolls. Again, everything seemed to be overcooked and extremely "gelatified". The wait staff was also a bit green (they didn't know if they had knives, didn't bring us water for 10 minutes), but I didn't hold that against them, since they were new. My wife ordered spring roll and a egg roll. Asked for peanut sauce on the side. The peanut sauce was SO salty you could not taste any peanut. More like a extra Salty Soy. I had the chicken pad tai. It was edible but flavorless and the chicken was dry and chewy. No flavor what ever. Boiled rice noodle with some unknown flavor. Service was fine and on time but quality of food just not there. Hoping this was just a bad cook day. This is our first time there and I like to always give a restaurant a second chance but it'll be a while before we try it again. read more

Rice Palace - Not Ready for Prime Time I love Thai food, and it is nice to have good Thai restaurants in both Eau Claire (Pad Thai) and Chippewa Falls (Mali Thai). So I was looking forward to some great food at the newest Thai restaurant in Eau Claire - Rice Palace. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Setting was Friday evening, about 6pm. Not very busy, but with a decent crowd with customers coming in and out. The two of us ordered Tofu Pad Thai (mild) and Drunken Noodles with Pork (spicy). Prices are very reasonable and the food was delivered to our table fast. That was the only good thing about the meal. Both items were very greasy - as in pooling oil on the plate greasy. The Pad Thai had an overpower taste of anise - a common ingredient in Thai food, but not in Pad Thai, and it overpowered the dish. It also appeared to be comprised largely of just noodles, tofu and sauce - no egg, no onion, no peanuts on the top, no cilantro, no bean sprouts. I understand there are many ways to make this dish, but this was a bad way. Drunken Noodles w/pork was good, if also pooling in oil. Very spicy (which is how I ordered it, so points for getting that right) I do suggest that you try medium first. Noodles for both dishes were cooked appropriately, but Thai food should never be pooling in oil. Never. Rice Palace does have a limited beer selection It was also one of the few times leftovers stayed on the plate and did not go home. read more

Quite solid! I've been to Rice Palace several times since they opened. I love authentic Thai food (and not boring old Americanized Pad Thai), and the dishes I've had at Rice Palace have been pretty darn good. Fresh veggies, excellent balance of flavors, and perfect rice / noodles. The portions are gigantic, so you'll definitely be taking some home. I wish they had more authentic dishes, but they're doing great for Eau Claire! I love getting their egg rolls at the farmer's market too! Good stuff; get the spicy sauce! read more

Excellent food....but I always get it "to go". Slow service and little ambience for eating at the restaurant. The cook will customize and they don't use sugar in their curry....so sweet and flavorful without it. Many of the other Thai places here use copious amounts of sugar and sometimes corn starch too. read more
