The venue was dirty, like there might have been previous events and no one bothered to clean up. I had seen the venue shown on Love and Hip Hop NY(the original cast) and they made the spot look good. The Bowery is a co-op gallery originally opened in 1969. They offer a diverse array of shows in a cool space that is slightly cramped (at least if you are here for an opening), but provides a cozy, well-lit spot to enjoy exceptional art. And if you don't like what's on display, you can wander the halls and find another gallery to peruse. If you have a chance to visit over the next month, check out the lovely, inspired, Cezanne-esque still life paintings by the wonderful Lynn Kotula.

I have been following them on Facebook & Instagram and been meaning to stop by. A new show was being installed for the Boonton First Friday celebration. The gallery owner Scott Broadfoot and Sean were there and showed me the new show. The art was beautifully displayed and the gallery space itself is light and inviting. The paintings currently being shown are contemporary and very striking. I will be sure to stop by again and buy some art!

I had the pleasure of visiting yesterday, on the last day of the lovely exhibit called: " Light and Abundance: Gold in Japanese Art". It featured works from more than a dozen artists. I enjoyed it very much. I think the reason I appreciate the IPPODO Gallery so much is because seeing the beautiful Japanese artwork and crafts seems to make me feel like I'm in a serene place, a calming place, and I don't know of anyone who wouldn't appreciate that. The artwork takes me away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It is a beautiful respite. AND, equally important, the people who work at the gallery are very nice. Welcoming, not snobby. LOL. In my humble opinion, there is nothing like seeing the art in person. I will post photos, but honestly, seeing these works in person are the way to go, if it is at all possible for you. You can put your name and email on their mailing list so that you can be notified of upcoming events at the gallery. I took the number one train to Franklin Street and then walked about a block or so . Of course, depending upon where you're coming from, there are various means of transportation to get to the gallery. (I got the Number 1 train at Times Square, 42 nd Street, and headed downtown on the number 1 train.) NEW LOCATION (as of March 2025) is: 35 North Moore Street Tribeca. (Downtown Manhattan) By the way, the subway train left me off near the famous Ghost Busters Firehouse. Used in the movie. Their core is on history of modern and contemporary photography spanning from masters like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Steichen, Bernice Abbott, Paul Strand, Edward Weston among others, as well as more recent artist like Walker Evans, Vivian Maier, Marvin Newman, etc. The gallery is located at the 14th floor of the Fuller Building on 57th Street. It has a main gallery space, and one on a side for more contemporary exhibits.

I suspect those photo's went for many thousands of dollars - how about spending 8 thousand more? I have an offer - you buy me "Bijou of Montmartre", 1932 by Brassai and I will rave about you on yelp (I never said my yelps could not be bought). Have you read my yelps? You will be famous among my three fans. That has to be worth a measly 8K. Plus, you have no idea how wonderful that photo will look on my wall. So, you would also get the knowledge that you gave an original work to someone who is so poor she didn't know a recession was on, how do you feel it when you live it all the time? I'm not offended to be thought of as a charity case - use me on pamphlets. I will frown in pictures with bare walls in the background. I will be happy to provide all the sad stories about how I dreamed of owning art but my humble existence kept me away from anything but posters and postcard reproductions, until you - my art angle - swept in and gave me the gift of an original Brassai.
