He turns on the charm and near end it was agreed he would provide a code number of insurance coverage on WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A TAKE HOME SHEET. I don't usually write reviews but I thought I needed to in this case. Hopefully it saves someone the headache and money. My main dentist referred me to Dr. Benveniste for a gum graph because I had a pocket from a wisdom tooth removal on my upper left. Dr. Benveniste is a nice man but a little too friendly by calling patients, "Sweetheart, darling, sweetie." and other names. I have never experienced this in a "Professional Office" before and it made me feel very uncomfortable. After he explained to me what the treatment would entail I had questions but his responses only left me feel more confused. I left unsatisfied and thought I should get a second opinion; the 2nd Periodontic called Dr. Benveniste to see what type of treatment he is recommending as it didn't seem right to him. I got a call from Dr. Benveniste questioning me as to why I am going to other dentists for second opinions and tried to discourage me. Yes, he is cheap but please don't ever go cheap on your tooth procedures because it will cost you in the long run. The receptionists are the face of the office and by having rude and unprofessional staff only makes the environment unwelcoming. Liz is the worst receptionist and she should either take a few customer service classes or maybe switch jobs! It's beyond me how a dentist can have such horrible staff specially at the front desk. Carol on the other hand was helpful, polite and professional; I feel sorry she has to work with Liz everyday. Overall, I never returned to Dr. Benveniste because a dentist should never make a call to their possible patient and try to discourage them from getting a second opinion no matter what. I ended up going to a Periodontic in Camarillo who not only gave me the BEST treatment but made me feel comfortable during the whole process and I'm still seeing him because he wants to make sure everything is healing well. read more

Dr. Benveniste has my appreciation for incredibly well done periodontal surgery and has my highest recommendation. I went to Dr. Benveniste because my regular dentist said I had a lot of bone loss and might need multiple extractions and implants. He added that there was a possibility the teeth might be saved by a periodontist, but not to count on it. Gum surgery and related procedures are something that have been painful in years past and somewhat scary. Now that I have completed Gum surgery and bone replacement with Dr. Benveniste on all 4 quadrants of my mouth, I realize that the fear was totally unfounded (at least when done by him). He saved my teeth with little pain and put me on a good trajectory. After the initial exam, he shared the results and carefully explained what he believed was needed to correct the problem and the likelihood of success, made a diagram so it was fully understood, and discussed the price. There were no surprises, everything was fully understood, and the price quoted was fair. I really appreciated that patient comfort is a top concern for Dr. Benveniste. For me, the worst part of any dental procedure is when needles are stuck into the gums to administer the pain meds. Dr B has a device he uses before the needle -- it feels like air but it's not -- so that the gums are numb before the needles are used. He then checks every area to be sure it is fully numb and adjusts accordingly. There was almost no discomfort at any time during or after the surgery Rather than do all 4 sections (or even 2) at one time, Dr. B spaced the surgical procedures into quadrants. That made a huge difference in post surgical pain (which was well controlled by extra strength Tylenol the day of surgery and none thereafter, with the exception of the final surgery when I took 1 prescription pain pill the night of the surgery and didn't need anything thereafter) and helped with eating. The appointment spacing took extra time and effort on his part, but sure made it a better surgery for me. He didn't rush things though in 1 appointment because he cared about patient comfort, healing and thoroughness of work. Dr. Benveniste clearly puts patient welfare before himself. I saw one review that complained they they only received a prescription for 8 pain med pills and were unhappy about that. I take a contrary view. Too many doctors and dentists prescribe 30 or so narcotic pills when only a few might be needed. This is dangerous because all too many people become addicted when taking narcotics that really aren't needed (I am not suggesting that the person who write that review is an addict), and also discourages patients from being re-examined quickly to determine why there is unexpected pain. Dr. Benveniste, like other ethical professions, prescribes what should be adequate (he told me that pain levels are very different with each patient), and wants to examine the patient if there is a need for more prescription narcotics than initially prescribed. If there is continued pain, he wants to understand why and deal with it, not simply push out narcotic pain meds to mask any problem. As an aside, it was necessary to take an antibiotic for 5 days after each surgical procedure. Dr. Benveniste was thorough, his staff (both administrative and dental assistant) were also friendly and professional, and the surgery was a complete success. Whether one agrees or not, they do have very strict Covid protocols. Masks are mandatory, there are the usual questions when you arrive, your temperature is taken, multiple seats in the waiting room are blocked so there is spacing, and patients wash their hands before being seated for the procedure (I haven't figured out why we need to wash hands before the procedure, but I did it anyway). I never thought that I would be so totally pleased with a dentist, and especially not a periodontist, but Dr. Benveniste's skill, empathy and professionalism turned what could have been a nightmare into something that was relatively painless. He did an incredible job, and did not try to sell me products or extra work (as some dentists and doctors do) to increase the bottom line. He saved multiple teeth from having to be extracted and me going through expensive and uncomfortable implants and related surgery, removed infections that likely impacted my overall health, and restored my mouth and gums to good health. It took a lot of work and skill on the periodontists side, form a patient perspective it was surprisingly simple and easy to deal with. I would not hesitate to strongly recommend that friends and family see Dr. Benveniste. He is honest, skilled, professional, friendly and much appreciated by me. read more

Our main dentist referred us to this dentist to check out a possible jaw issue. Our dentist sent us with a high tech CD with a full panoramic view and x rays of the mouth so the dentist would not have to do any X-rays or any other work and charge us. Our dentist advised to show him the CD and he would be able to give us a diagnostic. Upon arrival to the office, the front desk lady completely disregarded everything we brought and told her and charged us 190$ for X-rays and consult fee????!!! This was absolutely not needed as we had brought everything the dentist needed. This office DOES NOT care and are just here to take your money!! At the end of the consult, dentist advised we needed to do a treatment that cost nearly 3000$ (we have insurance). Needless to say, we will never come back to this dentist. They only care about doing the most fancy procedures and take your money. read more

Stay away from this dentist who tells u that u need dental work when u don't. Many years ago, my sister was a patient of his - and she thought I had the same problems as she did - which I didn't. During one visit, Dr. B told me that I needed gum surgery on the top, right side - and I agreed - as I didn't know that dentists were liars. It was painful and expensive. Dr. Rich is the OG!! I was referred to Dr. Richard by my Dentist. I had much bleeding in my gums, a couple lower teeth were loose and my dentist was worried I would lose these teeth and said I needed immediate help. He referred me to a Periodontist, Dr. Benveniste for an evaluation. Dr. Beneviste said I had the beginning stages of periodontal disease or gum disease. Said I had a major infection and my gums needed to be treated. He also said I got to him in the nick of time for treatment. I listened to what my options were, what the odds were to save my teeth and what the cost would be. Dr. Richard took his time with the evaluation and showed me what my options were and laid out the cost. My dental insurance would not cover the treatment so the staff at Dr. Benveniste's office helped me get Care Credit and I was able to put the whole treatment on this card with deferred interest for a year post treatment. The staff is helpful and friendly and Dr. Richard always greeted me with his great attitude and hilarious sense of humor that always put me at ease. I am happy to report that over the past couple of months of receiving the full treatment my gums are healed and healthy, the infection is gone and all my crowns and veneers are still in tact. He is very knowledgeable and put me at ease. During the procedure he used a needless numbing tool. This was important as I am terrified of pain. When shopping for a dentist, i like to ask questions and if i don't get answers it either means they are hiding something or they don't know the answer. in either case, this is not a dentist i am looking for. I called here today asking for some prices on basic services and the rude woman refused to try and answer anything. She said I need to pay for a consultation to find out anything. I don't think so. I hung up exasperated and immediately called a different Dentist who not only fully explained the proceedure I was asking about, she gave me a complete ballpark price and even offered a free consultation. She was very knowledgeable and kind. I made a third call to another dentists office and the doctor himself took my call and answered my questions. I will go to the other places I called NOT this one.The other offices made me feel great on the phone and gave me a really good feeling about their office. Sadly this woman here at benveniste turned me away and lost the dentist a patient. There goes your referral. I will ask my dentist exactly why he is referring patients here.
