Dr Okui did a good job with my deep cleaning work, but beware of billing issues. 1. They billed me for anesthesia which I never received, but they did correct it later after I complained. 2. They sent me a bill 1 year and 8 months later for $763. I discussed this with the billing person and she tried blaming me for the bill not being paid even though I was never notified until 1 year 8 months later. I told her that I am not going to be able to dispute the bill with my ins company because of it being so long ago. The funny thing is that I have two insurances and the billing person did not provide the correct info to my insurance, so it was there error. The billing dept is completely incompetent and rude and was not willing to have a reasonable discussion to resolve bill. I did not recommend this business read more

I love this office! Staff is caring, helpful and incredibly supportive. They even helped and attained CareCredit for all my expenses. Dr Okui gives painless injections and has such a gentle touch. The worst customer service!!! The people at the office are the worst! I been at the Dr Okui almost 2 years ago for consultation and the Dr said he cannot treat my issue because the situation in the recession and he told me clearly at the appointment. When I left at the appointment I went to the check out and asked if there is anything I need to sign or pay and they told me you are all good to go. I understand that they didn't charge me any fee because the Dr couldn't treat my situation. I received a bill 3 days ago of $225 after a year and half. I called the office and I explain the situation and the lady who answering the phone said that she will check and will get back to me and see what she can do. She never called. I called again yesterday and there was another lady that was answering that was very not nice and rude and transfer me to the manager after I was asking that never pickup the office and I was on hold for 20 min. I called again today and asked to speak with the manager Sara. I told her why I'm getting bill after a year and a half and the reason the Dr didn't charge me is because he county do the treatment for me. She said that I don't remember what happen not mention that my mom was with me and heard the whole conversation with the Dr. I was asking if the Dr can treat me I will do the treatment with him and will pay the fee. She said that she can not guarantee that results that I want. And she said that they sent me letter on the bills which was not true this is the first bill I've ever received from them and no one ver called me or tried to reach me not over the phone or email. She keep saying things that never happen and I understand why hat this is probably the way they are working Very rude making up things on the clients the office is not managing well. read more

My experience with Matt Okui could not have been worse. I found him to be both a bad dentist and an untrustworthy person. It still baffles me today why he would ever get involved with my case. I ended up in Matt's office after my general dentist of over ten years steered me to him for treatment with an email stating: "I am sending him to you [Dr. Okui] because frankly, I do not trust the work of any of the periodontists in this valley." My general dentist, Dr. Christopher Go, had recently preformed a completely unnecessary dental implant in the front of my mouth that destroyed my smile. Matthew Okui, a long time friend and accomplice of Chris Go was soon after enlisted to help cleanup the mess. He performed three surgeries on me that had limited results. These surgeries were stretched out over a two-year period thanks to Dr. Okui's insistence on a "six-month healing period" after each procedure. Once Dr. Okui's three surgeries failed to produce the promised aesthetic results, I began work with another periodontist (Dr. Homa Zadeh) who achieved a thousand times better results with just one procedure. I also learned that six-WEEKS is the standard healing period for periodontal procedures. The statute of limitations is two years on medical malpractice so I'll let you do the math on that one. OK... first I have to confess, I have not been worked on by Dr. Okui (yet). But, about 3 years or so, I went in to see him as a referral from my dentist in Redondo Beach. I live in the SFV, so it didn't make sense for me to travel all the way (on the AUUUUUUUUUGH 405) and be late to an appts in redondo beach due to unpredictable traffic. Anyways, I was supposed to go back to get my gums and teeth health again; but, quite honestly, since nothing was falling out yet, the follow up by me took a back burner. But, the other day at dinner, my husband lost a tooth while eating a big ole beef rib. Because I remembered Dr. Okui's thorough and very great bedside manner, my husband made an appointment to see Dr. Okui. The office was more than accommodating! We were able to get in there at 6:15 AM. We have office hours at our worok place from 5AM-3PM. So, this really helped not interrupting our work duties a lot! And EVERYONE there at Dr. Okui's office is very very hospitable. As sure as I remember, all probing and determinations that the dentist noticed was immediately communicated in very simple (and not condescending) layman's terms. Trust me, dentist offices are usually not my husband or my favorite place to be at. But, for my husband to feel actually relaxed in the chair with his mouth opened to the dentist, ok, this is miraculous! Hands down Dr Okui and staff!!! What I thought was going to be an extremely painful dental experience was a very positive, pleasant (Dental and pleasant in the same sentence?) experience. I arrived in the office with much anxiety and trepidation but was soon enveloped in the calm, attentive, professionalism of Dr. Okui and his two assistants. Also, I was very impressed by Dr. Okui's respectful manner with his staff, saying thank you when they responded to his request. The positive office environment and protocols are established by Dr. Okui and his partner, Dr. Tatsuta. They excel in this area and hire staff that are as compassionate and dedicated as they are to making a patient's visit as comfortable as possible. Due to internal resorption of one of my upper incisors, I needed to have the tooth extracted, an implant installed, and a temporary "fake" tooth attached. Within two hours, I was on my way home with minimal bleeding and pain. That evening, Dr. Okui phoned to check on my well-being. Hope to never have to have a similar procedure but if so, I definitely will return to Dr. Okui, a very skillful oral surgeon. read more

Not sure where to begin on this one so bare with me...... I have a SERIOUS anxiety issue with going to the dentist (yes everyone does but not like this lol). I've actually had 2 dentists in my life that refused to proceed because I was so incredibly nervous that they weren't comfortable working on me I guess. That being said... *The Staff & Office* I have been a patient of Dr.Okui for almost 3 years now and every single appt I've had with him (which is quite a few) has been a pleasant, completely relaxed and all around great experience for me. I actually look forward to coming in as Dr.Okui and his entire staff are incredibly genuine people who actually care. *The Procedure & Recovery* As I mentioned I'm a bit of a baby with anything dental related so I get sedated with IV anesthesia for my procedure. All I can say is PERFECT in every way.. from the sticking me with a needle part, to the waking up part, to the patiently helping me come back to reality part lol all the way to being wheeled down to the car part... they are absolutely on top of things. Knowing that makes me that much more at ease. The recovery was almost unreal, aside from the having to watch what i eat & being tired the first day it was absolutely painless. Literally. I didn't even need the pain pills he gave me after the first 2 days. I've had root canals that were 20x more painful than the major procedure Dr.Okui did. *Dr.Okui* Its rare that I'm at a loss for words but I'm pretty close lol Dr.Okui has been sooooooo amazingly helpful to me. He's a sincerely wonderful one of a kind person who is the absolute best at what he does. Takes his time, answers every question, explains everything, gives you options as well as suggestions. Has a very calming positive energy & presence and I'm running out of adjectives lol Should also add that hes a very cool down to earth person and to me hes an absolute god send. Was referred by a friend of mine for some gum work. Examined me and needed to extract a tooth. I have these phobias of being confined so he does give anesthisia which makes everything easy. Go to sleep and wakeup fixed. Such was the case with me and very little after surgery pain. I'm less a tooth but the experience was painless and with Dr. Okui explaining to me everything and him considerate of all my phobias I can highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Okui really takes his time to explain everything to you. Even though he is busy, you don't feel like he is trying to rush anything to get to the next patient. I watched the whole surgery and it was like watching a medical seminar, because he explained what he was going to do. Hello Yelpers, I'm writing a review because it is well deserved. Dr Okui is one of kind. He is an amazing doctor and a gentle soul. His explains, listens,cares and gives you an honest opinion. I went for couple of surgeries and my experience was pain and infection free. He does beautiful work and I can't trust any other oral surgeon but him. I sent him couple of people and they were extremely happy with his work. I drive from Pasadena to see him and I don't mind it because he is damn good. read more

After being a long term patient, I have decided to go to another periodontist instead of Dr. Okui as I have found another periodontist who only charges a third of what Dr. Okui's office would charge. Removal of a molar tooth and bone grafting would cost $2000, where as the one I go to now only charges $840. So unless money is not your concern, you can go see him. read more

My girlfriend and I went in for a consultation, and it was by far the best doctor's visit we've ever had. Doctor Okui was insightful, thorough, very friendly and gave us a breakdown to make an informed and intelligent decision about what our next steps would be.
