I had repeated ear…read moreproblems all through my youth and while staying at The Fairbanks Rescue Mission (I think from wind blowing in my ear while riding my bike back and forth from The Alaska Club) I got an ear ache. I was seen in our FMH ER and over night it swelled up and so I returned to ER addressing my swollen ear but the ER doctor I did not feel addressed my painful swollen ear other than a quick peek and told me to continue my antibiotic and drops and he addressed my second issue of much chest pain and tried to load me up with a shot of Toradol and a couple other drugs I felt was unessesary and would have in my opinion made me over medicated (especially having to walk back to our Fairbanks Rescue Mission alone after midnight because I had no ride and was having difficulty using my personal cell and the hospital er phone during my visit) so I refused all but the Toradol shot for pain and was seen later at TVC 1ST Care where they were very Awesome and changed my antibiotic and I still had problems so I was extremely glad when my mother took me to my visit with Dr. Kim....Jesus must reside here this office definitely rocks! They were way on the ball the staff way cool, I sat in the lobby thanking God for encouragement that He does make doctors who respond like Jesus would and are very good at the gift God gave them..another ear problem headed in soon and am very greatful Dr Kim's staff got me back in soonvon such short notice...Thanks Dr Kim and staff!!!!!! :)

I have been waiting for the contacts I have ordered from them since May. This is over a $500 purchase that I have not received for almost 3 months now. Further, when I first left the clinic I asked if there was a copay and was told no. The clinic has the audacity to call me repeatedly for a $10 copay that I was originally told didn't exist when they owe me over $500. When I first went to the clinic, the technician dilated my eyes when she was not supposed to, so I had to come back a week later. When I came back, the scheduling team had incorrectly scheduled me so that the test that Dr. Wilbur had ordered was not available to be done that day -- so again, I had to return a week later. Since then, I have had to repeatedly call to ask about my contact order. At one point, I was initially told that my contact brand was discontinued, and that I would hear from the office within the next week about options after they spoke with the doctor. That did not happen, so two weeks later I called back. I was then told that the contacts were not discontinued and they were simply on backorder and I would receive them in a week. That was in late June. It is now August. Since then, I was told that my order was cancelled by the manufacturer twice, only after I called to ask for an update. One of those two times, it appeared that the staff had no clue that the order was cancelled until I asked them to check. I have had to drive back to the clinic 4 times to pick up sample contacts because they have failed to fulfill my order. The last two times I was offered bi-weeklys (I wear dailies) that I was told were a "slightly incorrect fit but should be fine" then most recently I was offered the choice between bi-weeklys that were the wrong prescription ( a +0.5 difference) and monthlies. I have been wearing the monthlies and my eyes have not stopped burning for the past several days even after stopping wearing them for a day.

I called ahead to the main clinic and was told they had no available appointments before two weeks but could go to their extended office, 1st Care. Upon arrival I completed the required paperwork and provided my insurance card and identification. The woman then told me that I had to pay $260 toward my deductible but I was sure this was incorrect so I asked her to verify. She agreed to contact the business office and though she didn't say anything about a deductible to them, she claimed they told her I had to pay the same thing. I wasn't comfortable paying this amount so I left and called my insurance company who confirmed o should only have to pay a $30 copay. I went back to the counter but the first woman I spoke with wasn't there so another lady called me back. I had the insurance company on the phone and explained to the staff person what happened. She refused to talk to the insurance company and instead directed me to the business office across the street. In the snow. I asked her to confirm someone was available and she was not helpful at all. The fact that patients are sick didn't seem to matter about sending them back and forth in the snow when picking up the phone could have resolved the issue. Longer story shorter, I went to the business office and was taken care of in 5 minutes. The only reason why I didn't rate a 1 is because the senior manager was so kind and apologetic and really personable. After the fact, the next person I spoke with was efficient at getting me checked in and every other staff person including the doctor was super kind and helpful. Hopefully this experience was an anomaly but I'll try again if I need care just to be sure.

They bill insurance as an ordinary provider rather than as an 'Urgent Care' facility resulting in much higher co-pays ($150) due to the services rendered rather than the flat co-pay ($35) regardless of services rendered for an 'Urgent Care' facility visit. An Emergency Room visit co-pay would have been cheaper.

I ended up leaving the procedure which took me to schedule because they never called me to schedule this procedure, after the procedure I had blood in my urine and I called the surgeon next day as was continued concerning issue. No return call. It's been over a month and now still no return calls on testing or follow up appointments or just a call after report of concerning blood in urine regarding the procedure. Very upset as this has been delay of care, no follow up, and safety concerns due to possible harm to me as no follow up!!!!! I now have to see another surgeon and more imaging. Very unsatisfied. Terrible patient care.

TLDR: The doctor refused to listen to me when I told him an anti nausea medication didn't work for…read moreme and I had to go back a second time for help. I had to pay twice because the doctor wouldn't listen to me. They had my insurance but didn't bill it and instead the bill went to collections and it is still a fight over a year later. Honestly the worst hospital experiences I have ever had. I had an ovarian cyst right after having an appendectomy and was experiencing a lot of pain due to it. What I didn't realize was that it was rupturing while I was in Fairbanks. I was on oral prescription pain medication but it did not completely control the pain and my nausea kept me from keeping it down. As the pain got worse the nausea got worse and I could not keep any medicine down. I went to the ER where they gave me zofran and had me take the pain medicine orally then made me leave. I told the doctor that zofran did not work for me (after 4 previous trips to ER due to nausea and vomiting) but he ignored me and said it will work. He ignored me, gave me nothing to go home with, and basically said you have meds so you can deal with it. He also would not help with the nausea or pain until I got an ultrasound for the cyst I already knew I had. So I had to go to the ultrasound room crying, throwing up, and in pain. I went home and kept throwing up and the pain came back just as bad because I could not keep the pain medicine down. I threw up everything including water. So I had to go back to the ER. The nurse and doctor were different and both nicer the second time. The doctor listened to me and gave me a different anti nausea medication through a shot and IV pain medication. It worked significantly better and the pain was lessened. I was still in pain but not to the point of throwing everything up. He gave me a prescription for the anti nausea meds that actually worked. While I was still crying in pain, it was more manageable. I asked if there was anything they could do and the doctor told me not until my surgery to remove the cyst which was two weeks later. Now it is over a year later and I am still struggling with billing. Both from the hospital and the physician. The hospital did not send the physician's office my insurance information and as a result the bill went to claims. The hospital billing department was never even remotely helpful. Regardless of the community in Fairbanks, my experiences here have been so bad that I refuse to live here once I graduate because it is the only hospital available.
