On top of me feeling too old, she sent me to Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics of Virginia. The staff at PDOVA made it easy to be an adult patient in what seemed to be a children's facility. I've seen several staff members outside of the office in the community, they knew me by name. During the COVID-19 quarantine I had chains break but couldn't get through to the office for an emergency appointment. I saw one of the staff members in a local store, after exchanging pleasantries I explained the challenge of getting an appointment. A few days later I received a call from the receptionist saying the staff member explained my need for an appointment. I was scheduled and able to come in for that emergency visit. Dr Bridges is EXTREMELY thorough and explains treatment plans so that anyone can understand. I would recommend this office and staff to anyone of any age needing orthodontic care! Lisa H

They make you schedule parent visits if you want to go back but don't tell you that's an option until you're stuck with the choice of canceling your appointment if there is a parent already back there. They only allow one parent total in the back room. this is for all patients. So if another kids parent is back there you can't go with your kid. This is for hippa reasons. They claim that the kids do better without the parent but they have never had any reason from my previous visits to claim my kid needed me not back there. They said The dentists can assure the kids they are not scary if the parent is not back there. That was the creepiest thing I've heard. the receptionist also gave me update medical history paperwork unpon checkin but didn't tell me it needed to be returned before being officially checked in so I waiting forever before finally asking what the wait was for. They saw I was done and if I knew I needed to give it to them first instead of when I was called back then I would have. Courtesy says to tell the customer to give it back when complete. some doctors offices just take it when you're called back. It's i consistency with this place so I immediately retracted my care and am going elsewhere

I rarely write reviews, and the ones I usually write are positive. I went to Virginia Family…read moreDentistry because of the glowing reviews, but my experience was quite different. I've lived in the Richmond area for over 40 years and found their business practices concerning. My 19-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter, and I had appointments last week. After being informed that our new patient visits would total $577 for the same services (since we are self-pay), I agreed to proceed. While I understand my son is an adult, I made it clear that I would be paying for everything. I grew concerned when my dentist suggested pulling a back tooth due to a gap that might cause bacteria issues, despite no current problems plus making recommendation to see their periodontist and pushing a possible the idea of an implant for the tooth; as well as, selling them on their orthodontist after I mentioned that I had seen the orthodontist the day before...which they said they never got x-rays for and it didn't matter because theirs would be different. Additionally, we were told afterward that my daughter's visit would cost $60 more due to extra X-rays, which we were not informed about in advance. It's comparable to a mechanic doing extra work without getting your approval first. I decided to go along with it, appreciating the new patient discount. They then informed us my son would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular one and scheduled it for this week, again without giving any pricing information. When he asked if there would be extra costs, they implied there shouldn't be. Later, we found out this service would cost over $200. This was surprising since we were told otherwise, and they knew I was responsible for the payments. When I asked why we didn't receive a discount for my son's previous visit since he didn't get a cleaning the first time, they said his services were different. How? When the whole purpose of the visit was for a check up and cleaning. After speaking with the office manager, Lauren, I felt unheard and unacknowledged as a customer. She did not apologize or address my concerns, only defending their position. As a business coach and consultant, I've rarely encountered such poor customer service communication outside of the restaurant industry. We ultimately decided not to proceed with the additional service. Virginia Family Dentistry's communication with patients is lacking at best and unethical at worst. They lost out on over $1,500 of upcoming services we would have needed and the lifetime value of a customer. Choose carefully! They will not be getting any recommendations from me. It's noteworthy that they've disabled reviews on Facebook, which might explain the abundance of positive reviews here. I prefer practices that prioritize people over profits and are not influenced by private equity.

Dr. Doss is great, she's attentive, never makes you feel rushed, and actually takes time to explain what's going on. If something comes up and you need to get in quick, they work with you on that too. The staff is great as well, they are all very helpful and overall just kind, sometimes that is hard to come by. Honestly if you're looking for a dentist for your whole family, this is the place, it is nice they have several locations but this location is our favorite.

So when I showed up today as it was on my calendar I was informed that I didn't have an appt. Took time to rearrange my day for this appointment. Walked out seething . Called asked for office manager who did call me back who tried to explain and twist it like I canceled my appointment... didn't feel like I was given a true apology. This wasn't my 1st time with appointment issues. I suppose when your business is so large and have numerous locations and long waits for appointments that quality of customer service goes down the drain. Customer loyalty too isn't important either. Well I won't be recommending you anymore in the future if anyone asks me for a dental group. You can say what you want but trying to be a spin doctor and lay blame on the customer when your staff assumes to cancel future standing appointments without asking and confirming is INEXCUSABLE!!!

I ended up going to going to Dr Gardener by default after Dr Reed moved back to California. They tried over charging me for my bridge by charging more than the insurance paid and then argued with me. Dr Gardener is about as friendly as rock. I needed a bridge and they make them in the office, and you come back that afternoon to have it put in. These crowns are rough and never feel clean even after brushing. I had a single crown done before I had the bridge put in and I went back 5 times to get it adjusted. I explained the problem I was having, and they never got it right. I finely gave up and went to a new dentist, and she fixed it correctly. Sadly, there was a cavity that was not taken care of when they did the crown, and I had to have it removed by my new dentist and a new crown. If I were you, I would avoid them at all cost.
