I…read morewon't go into the details but in short there was a mistake made at the patisserie and the length the owner went to correct it was very admirable and UNHEARD of in Amsterdam. Good customer service is a commodity in this town so I had to look into this place... As a result of the mistake and the story of it's correction, I'd consider myself now to be a Tout regular. I buy the macaroons as gifts for people, I use them to impress my bosses and let's be honest, I cheekily gift them to myself as well. :) I also took part in the macaroon workshop which was great! My only complaint here was that we weren't able to do everything ourselves but due to the nature of macaroons, it would need to be a pretty long workshop (try 3 days!). The price of the workshop might seem steep (I think 60 euros) but I came out of there with almost 2 full boxes of mini macaroons so it's totally worth it if you ask me - not to mention the afternoon of educational fun and the owner is his own brand of eye-candy... :P

Though the shop space is quite small, Delicious Sweetness has a wonderful and reasonably varied selection of French pastries, from vanilla/chocolate/coffee eclairs to an array of different macarons to all sorts of beautiful tarts (I ordered the passionfruit coconut one, but the motorcyclists were apparently huge fans of the lemon meringue tarts). They also have breakfast pastries - the croissants looked amazing, but unfortunately, I did not have the chance to try them. Both the coffee eclair and the passionfruit coconut tart were delicious - not too sweet, and clearly freshly made. The coffee eclair had a slightly crunchy, chewy exterior that was not at all compromised by the ample filling of coffee-flavored cream, and the ring of desiccated coconut on the passionfruit coconut tart provided a great texture contrast to the smooth, slightly tart passionfruit curd. The owner was quite friendly, and the shop accepts both credit card and cash. If you're in the area and craving something sweet, definitely stop by Delicious Sweetness!

This all little ice cream shop looks like any other gelato place from the outside and came at a time I was trying to squeeze a little in before getting my bags and heading to the train station. Upon entering you are greeted with the typical cabinet of flavours and I my two choices were Stracciatella and Smurf, yes Smurf. Now, when you order Smurf from this place the lights dim a little bit, music starts playing, the Smurf's appear on the TV, and bubbles start falling form the season and all of that is just plain magical. Did I immediately start laughing? Yeah I did, because I was confused and it brought me so much joy. Back to the actual gelato, and guess what, it was in fact good! The gelato was creamy, rich, and had great flavour. Overall, Jan Pieter Ijsje was a great little place to stop and grab some gelato. I might not remember everything I ate and did when I was in Amsterdam in a decade or so, but I can assure you I will never forgot what happened when I ordered the Smurf ice cream.

The first time I went I had the sweetest lady helping me put. The second time I went the man helping was in the worst mood. I hope his day got better. It's extremely busy and can be a little hard to place and order if you're not quick enough. I would recommend getting your order and taking it elsewhere to enjoy.
