The first time I went I had the sweetest lady helping me put. The second time I went the man helping was in the worst mood. I hope his day got better. Passed by this place while out exploring the town. We each got a ham and cheese croissant. They were so good. In addition to the cheese they put inside of the pastry they also put parmesan cheese on top and then toasted it. I'm over here drooling now just thinking about them. Tge service was quick and friendly. We enjoyed the pastries. There was a very hectic time, as was Easter Sunday so the ambiance was a bit off, but definitely will try their pastries if I see any other Simon bakery while traveling Europe. read more

AMAZING! Words fail to describe how delicious this bakery is. A majority of staff was incredibly friendly (one man was kind of meh) and the woman serving us the first day was an angel without wings. It's small inside but very cute, the food is displayed in a lovely manner that makes your mouth water before you even order. The smell can only be described as heavenly, and the taste even more so. The sweets and sandwiches both were wonderful (especially if you enjoy cheese). However, the pièce de résistance in my opinion was the coffee. As an avid coffee enjoyer, I always order a plain coffee just to see what I'm working with. This place killed it! Bursting with flavor, and with a nice layer of foam on top, I struggled to pace myself because I just couldn't get enough. Do yourself a favor and go here. read more

The pastries were acceptable, but I'd never go out of my way for them. But the service was a level of rude I hadn't experienced before. I was sitting by the door, nowhere near the food and adjusted tightened my ponytail to literally be yelled at for being "unsanitary" meanwhile they aren't wearing gloves or hairnets. She was incredibly rude, and I was nowhere even close to the food. There was absolutely no reason she had to be so rude about it, a simple "please don't do that" would've been taken much better than being yelled at in such an aggressive way. read more

A great spot to stop by after the museum of before heading to a very nice shopping spree. I decided to go for the Apple beignet that was really delicious but could have been a bit warmed up to suit entirely my taste. Also I like that hidden cherry in the middle of it that gives a little twist. Coffee and hot chocolate comes out of a commercial automatic machine so nothing fancy here. Price are average (around 3euros) And there were still choice just 30 minutes before their closing time. The only big no-no on this place is that they use their hands to pick up your pastry or bread or money... they don't use the pastry tong available. I thought it is not hygienic but in the same time I have seen it often in Amsterdam... is it like something normal over here?? read more

Almond croissant! Haven't stopped thinking about this delicious croissant I had for breakfast this morning. I took a few bites and realized I better get a picture of it before it was all gone. I can only speak for the almond croissant which is certainly one of the best I've had.

This place is great for three reasons: 1. It's a chain bakery with a local feel. All types of breads, sandwiches to go, and treats. No-nonsense and quick, although a bit of a mess trying to order (no organized line or number system, just whoever stands by the glass display and captures the attention of the staff!). Try their foccacia, or their rosemary bread, or their tijgerbrood. 2. Just around the corner from the "most famous shopping street in Amsterdam", the PC Hooftstraat, it is a cheap alternative to the pricey lunch places on the PC. Their sandwiches are delicious - even their ossenworst is handmade. What is Ossenworst you may ask? It's a typical Dutch food that is minced meat, and delicious. Don't look at it, just eat it and you will be pleasantly surprised with it's flavor (warning! Not for vegetarians!). 3. They have the BEST sausizenbroodjes in Amsterdam. (sausage rolls in pastry, warmed in the oven). LEKKER! There are quite a few all around Amsterdam - there is even one further down the road on Van Baerlestraat. read more

After yesterday's good experience, I went in again for pastries and coffee. However, I was charged for something I didn't buy. I bought coffee on a vending machine that I had to pay first, then I went to the counter and bought two pastries. When I was paying I found three items were on my receipt. I told the lady I had paid for the coffee but she said coffee was not on this bill. I didn't ask her why there were 3 items charged (I should have), because I was not assertive and was hurry to leave. So lessons learned. This little bakery was recommended to me by the hotel I was staying at, as it was just a short distance away. There was a lot of selection, and for someone who speaks zero Dutch, it was a little overwhelming to figure out what some items were. I ordered an almond croissant and it was perfect. Buttery, flaky layers with a great almond filling in addition to the almond slices on top. The interior is long with the counter on your left and a small bar on the right wall if you want to sit and eat versus taking your baked goods to go. On the way out we saw they had the rare almond-and-chocolate combo croissant, so now we have to go back to get that. One of the best bakeries I've been to in a long time. Ham/cheese croissants as they should be. Simon Meijssen is THE baker of Amsterdam, there is no doubt about that. I like to eat the spelt bread for breakfast, but as a snack the spelt 'bolletjes' are just the ticket. The staff is helpful and quick and it is never a bother to aks for a specially made roll. read more
