The school's French program was subpar for years after I graduated; I am unsure as to whether this has changed in recent years but when I went to the school, the teachers (we had a new one yearly) were unable to teach the material within the year. After I left the school, a friend of mine said that they were getting a new french teacher every term and that each one was just as unequipped to teach as the last. I struggled with French in high school and moved over to Spanish as a result. The school's music program caused me to develop bad habits that I only fixed in my later years of high school; my embouchure was awful (as my teacher had minimal knowledge of how to play my instrument) and the material we played was on par with "hot cross buns". They also required us to buy or rent (which was more expensive than buying in the medium term) the instrument we played; I ended up spending around $800 to play an instrument in primary school.. If I had not continued to play this instrument, this would have been a significant waste of money. The school prided itself on being a year ahead in science and two years ahead in math; this worked to my detriment as I became overconfident and barely passed math and sciences in high school. After I almost failed math and science in grade 7 (after moving to my new school), I lost all confidence and continued to do poorly. On top of this, I remember my science teacher telling us about the wonders of recycling. It has since been revealed that recycling was created by the plastics industry to give people the illusion that they had a way to avoid pollution due to plastic waste. Ever since China banned the importing of most plastics in 2017, Malaysia has taken up the burden of sorting our low-value plastics for pennies on the hour.. and this will is starting to stop as Malaysia has realized that being the world's dump is hurting their country. My point is that the teachers are uncritical and do very little research outside of creating their bare-bones curriculum. The teachers are used to children being as obedient and uncritical as them. They did not entertain any of our ideas and yelled at us when we did not fall in line. They did whatever was easiest and this included almost punishing me for allegedly pushing someone down the stairs, pinching someone on the back, and calling someone a nasty word within the span of a 30-minute lunch; I did not do any of this and if I had been more submissive, I would have been punished for actions I did not commit. When I was in high school, I posted a review similar to this one on their Facebook page. My parents told me that they were blackmailed into getting me to take the post down so I removed it. The main difference between that post and this post is that I did not claim anything to be my opinion.. (despite it being obvious that a Facebook review is an opinion). The teachers also have no problem with stealing and/or damaging the property of children (from what I saw). My friend's gummy art eraser (a $5 eraser) was thrown out because my teacher thought he had balled up his pencil shavings to create it. I had my tamogochi taken away and I only got it back when my mother yelled at the teacher the next day. These teachers do not care (in my opinion, as always); they want to do what is easiest and take home their meager salaries. This school is just a business.. nothing more. This has been an opinion piece.

Currently they have one class for 2 to 3 years, and two classes for children older than 4. As a Montessori school, the kid really learns. The teachers are capable and very nice. Each week, they call in two coaches to teach the kids exercise. The price for extended (7:30AM to 6:00PM) is $995 per month currently. The biggest issue is the location, the only entrance is on Major Mac, so it is very inconvenient during the rush hour.

If you're a new parent, you will feel crushed to learn that harm has come to your baby - while under the care of 3 adult, experienced, caregivers; -exorbitant pricing. Can't think of a more expensive daycare. Would I recommend Kids & Company? At the moment - kind of. As someone who's worked with young people myself, I was expecting an energizing program, and after 3 days have yet to see their any building of skills, language development. There were regular instances of aggressive behaviours from the other children and my 2-year old began exhibiting these behaviours as well, which is something that we never see at home or in other circumstances with other children. The cameras showed incredibly incompetent and irresponsible actions from the staff such as sweeping the floors while children were tackling each other and throwing things at one another. Our child would often come home upset, hungry, injured, and sometimes soaking wet with urine. The staff at Kids & Company seemed to blame the parents for the behaviour and took very little responsibility. As soon as we un-enrolled our child and put him in another daycare program, he began to flourish and became much happier. I am grateful that he is now doing well but I feel awful for keeping him in a daycare for several months in which the environment was aggressive, unhealthy, and un-supportive.

When I was pregnant, I was on waitlists with several childcare options much closer to home. On a whim, I booked a tour at Sunrise Montessori, even though it was significantly farther away. After meeting Principal Grace Koo and touring the school, I knew immediately that a strong educational foundation during my daughter's most formative years was worth every extra minute in the car. From the very beginning, Sunrise felt different. The classrooms are spotless and filled with natural light, with large interior windows that allow you to see into each classroom. I also loved the large indoor gymnasium, which gives the children plenty of room to play and stay active during rainy days, winter weather or extreme heat. The children wear uniforms after the infant program, which makes mornings so much easier. I've been fortunate to have incredible teachers throughout every stage of my daughter's journey. Ms. Evelyn provided such a loving start in the infant room and Ms. Karima continued that same care in the toddler room. But I especially want to recognize my daughter's Casa head teacher - Ms. Sue. I truly don't have enough words to describe what an extraordinary teacher she is. My daughter entered Ms. Sue's Casa classroom early at only two and a half years old. As a first-time parent, I was nervous she might not be ready, but Ms. Sue immediately put my mind at ease. Ms. Sue is one of those rare educators who was simply meant to teach. Every morning when I arrive around 7:30 a.m., she is already in the classroom preparing materials, cleaning, organizing activities and getting everything ready before the children arrive. I'm pretty sure her official start time isn't until later in the morning, yet there she is at 7:30. Her dedication is obvious every single day. She is also incredibly responsive through the school communication app. Whether I'm asking how my daughter ate, how she napped or even requesting a photo because I miss her, Ms. Sue always responds with kindness and patience. That reassurance means more than she probably realizes. It's the little things that make such a difference. Because she knows we have a long drive home each day, she reminds my daughter to use the washroom before leaving and makes sure her water bottle is partially filled for the ride home. If I'm running late one morning, Ms. Sue is the first to message me to make sure everything is okay and ask where her "special girl" is. Those thoughtful gestures speak volumes about how genuinely she cares. The growth I've seen in my daughter over the past year and a half has been remarkable. As she prepares to enter kindergarten, she can spell her first, middle and last name, complete simple addition, count to 100 and has developed wonderful manners, confidence, independence and a genuine love of learning. She has completed beautiful workbooks filled with writing and numbers and has made me the most beautiful cards that I will treasure forever. I have no doubt she's more than ready for kindergarten thanks to the incredible foundation she's received from Ms. Sue. One unique aspect of Sunrise is the integration of Mandarin instruction and Lunar New Year celebrations. My daughter can name all the body parts in Mandarin and has learned to appreciate another language and culture in such a natural, inclusive way. The activity fee is also put to excellent use. Throughout the year, the children enjoy wonderful experiences including visiting magicians, lion dance performances, fun fairs and age-appropriate field trips. As my daughter got older, I was able to join class trips to places like the aquarium, a farm and an indoor playground. Watching Ms. Sue manage these outings only reinforced my confidence in how much she prioritizes every child's safety, happiness and well-being. I would also like to recognize Ms. Sumaya and Ms. Marcia, who work alongside Ms. Sue in Casa 3 every day. They are kind, patient, warm and clearly adored by the children. Together, the three of them create an environment where every child feels safe, respected and genuinely loved. I am sincerely grateful for the care, kindness and dedication they have shown my daughter. They will be missed. Knowing my daughter was loved, safe, encouraged and genuinely cared for allowed me to focus on work each day without worrying. That peace of mind is something I'll never be able to fully repay. As this chapter at Sunrise ending fast approaches, I find myself filled with sadness and gratitude simultaneously. I honestly don't know how I'm going to say goodbye. In true Ms. Sue fashion, she reminds me that my daughter is ready for kindergarten - and that I'll be okay too. Ms. Sue is so much more than a teacher. Sunrise Montessori is incredibly fortunate to have an educator like her.
