In my opinion, this school was an underwhelming experience that left me with underdeveloped…read morecritical thinking skills and struggling in high school. The school's French program was subpar for years after I graduated; I am unsure as to whether this has changed in recent years but when I went to the school, the teachers (we had a new one yearly) were unable to teach the material within the year. After I left the school, a friend of mine said that they were getting a new french teacher every term and that each one was just as unequipped to teach as the last. I struggled with French in high school and moved over to Spanish as a result. The school's music program caused me to develop bad habits that I only fixed in my later years of high school; my embouchure was awful (as my teacher had minimal knowledge of how to play my instrument) and the material we played was on par with "hot cross buns". They also required us to buy or rent (which was more expensive than buying in the medium term) the instrument we played; I ended up spending around $800 to play an instrument in primary school.. If I had not continued to play this instrument, this would have been a significant waste of money. The school prided itself on being a year ahead in science and two years ahead in math; this worked to my detriment as I became overconfident and barely passed math and sciences in high school. After I almost failed math and science in grade 7 (after moving to my new school), I lost all confidence and continued to do poorly. On top of this, I remember my science teacher telling us about the wonders of recycling. It has since been revealed that recycling was created by the plastics industry to give people the illusion that they had a way to avoid pollution due to plastic waste. Ever since China banned the importing of most plastics in 2017, Malaysia has taken up the burden of sorting our low-value plastics for pennies on the hour.. and this will is starting to stop as Malaysia has realized that being the world's dump is hurting their country. My point is that the teachers are uncritical and do very little research outside of creating their bare-bones curriculum. The teachers are used to children being as obedient and uncritical as them. They did not entertain any of our ideas and yelled at us when we did not fall in line. They did whatever was easiest and this included almost punishing me for allegedly pushing someone down the stairs, pinching someone on the back, and calling someone a nasty word within the span of a 30-minute lunch; I did not do any of this and if I had been more submissive, I would have been punished for actions I did not commit. When I was in high school, I posted a review similar to this one on their Facebook page. My parents told me that they were blackmailed into getting me to take the post down so I removed it. The main difference between that post and this post is that I did not claim anything to be my opinion.. (despite it being obvious that a Facebook review is an opinion). The teachers also have no problem with stealing and/or damaging the property of children (from what I saw). My friend's gummy art eraser (a $5 eraser) was thrown out because my teacher thought he had balled up his pencil shavings to create it. I had my tamogochi taken away and I only got it back when my mother yelled at the teacher the next day. These teachers do not care (in my opinion, as always); they want to do what is easiest and take home their meager salaries. This school is just a business.. nothing more. This has been an opinion piece.

My older son is doing very well in a private high school and my younger son (who joined RHMS in grade 1) just got accepted to one of the most competitive schools in Toronto for grade 7. We could not be happier with RHMS.

What i don't appreciate is that this school has tried to remove those negative reviews ( no reviews…read moreallowed to comment on facebook now ) . this school 's behavior is fishy and not being transparent. I agreed to another negative review posted on google : students are trained to be like what the negative review said " Don't send your kids here, unless you want them to grow up to have a huge ego, always think they're right, and be set up for failure." actually there is a girl Ang. L and her parents tina and tim li s misbehavior and low class attitude are exactly like what it said on google . Their daughter used to be play piano well and was the first place in the competition in the beginning. However because of Parents greedy. unrealistic and cheap quality minds , they forced and disrespected/bully professional teacher's ( senior over 20 years teaching experience )ignoring professional 's opinion, force to skipped and thought their kids are gifted and talented so failed in the most respectful competition " https://www.rcmusic.com/learning/music-lights-the-way-piano-festival/winners" not even able to enter into the semi final . Parents like to show off and pretend wealthy all the time ... no wonder they send kids to PACE because skip ignore the fundamental knowledge is what parents want and they don't care knowledge only cheap quality " so true "be set up for Failure" . thank you for the parents who stand up to tell the facts and truth about these parents ( especially those mandarin spoken seems mental issue family in this school) https://www.utoronto.ca/news/u-t-sues-easy-edu-tutoring-company PACE school music director and teacher was college 2 semesters in commercial music ( not even classical trained) or drama major study told the failure piano girl Ange Li that she is perfect rhythm AND the girl feels she is right and complained the piano book is silly and making dump comments without intensive knowledge, and thoughtful mind just believe she is right ...... that leads her to failure in the music from 1st to failure .... this is a true example about this school , students, and parents here. the girl didn't win any swimming competitions ( mom said her daughter can attend swimming competition within 3 years but swimming school stated that the average time to attend competition is around 6 yrs depending on the kids' learning progress and piano competitions after she failed in 2023 this school and students and their parents are "Reap what you sow" and "push your luck" Math and Music gifted ? https://www.ycdsb.ca/ycdsb-student-finishes-first-in-the-world-in-math-competition/

Please take my review as a grain of salt since I do have my own different opinions and beliefs. I…read morewent to this school for a few years. To start off with, this school has the most strict and unnecessary rules I've seen (I suppose to show authority and limit creativity). I know people who send their children to private schools think they're doing them a favour - having a "more advanced" curriculum - but not for this school. It is extremely suffocating, with no freedom at all. It uses the Abeka curriculum, which has been used in American Christian schools since 1972. Times have changed; new scientific frameworks have been made, disproving many things taught at this school. People may disagree, but one such example is evolution. I don't understand how a school could teach Survival of the Fittest and Punnett squares and whatnot - all of which prove evolution... Such irony. The education system isn't even advanced. In my experience, they didn't teach "in depth" material, but just tell you to memorise things. I don't feel like I know a single subject that I took that did not require pure memorisation. Poetry class requires memorisation and reciting poems, which defeats the purpose of poetry... but the purpose of such art is to portray emotion and understand the meaning behind it. Such wasted potential... Sure, memorisation is somewhat important to prepare you for high school, but not this amount. (I also have terrible memory, so think for yourself). There were nicer teachers here and there, but they are still forced to follow the curriculum. I felt like this system fosters your children to be compliant, not innovative, imaginative, and authentic people. The homework amount was extremely intensive. Most of it is just writing lines over, over, and OVER again, for memorisation. In my opinion, this school does not help you get ready for high school since high school requires actual learning and critical thinking. This school caused constant despair and bitterness while I was in it. They offered a bare minimum field trip once a year. After being constantly unhappy, a normal experience will seem good to you. Keep in mind I've been in normal public schools for comparison. This school, among all the experiences of my life, drained my emotional stability the most. Again, these are purely my experiences. Please think for yourself and for your child's future.

The YMS staff have always ensured my daughter was welcomed with open arms and hearts, a true testament to their caring nature, and I always felt they considered us as part of their own families. The teachers and their attention to detail were instrumental factors in expanding my daughter's willingness to learn, growth and maturity. They have built a strong foundation, nurtured confidence, engaged social skills, in a way that truly demonstrates how much they care. Although our time at YMS has come to a close, I may have shed a tear during the graduation ceremony, not only for how proud I felt, but also knowing it was time to say goodbye to an amazing family, and I will ensure to recommend to parents that truly want the best for their children to make sure to put YMS at the top of the list.
