I switched from the Kalamazoo location to this location a couple of years ago and was AMAZED at how the staff at this location goes the extra mile for their customers! Not just my annual service and pickup, but this year I hit a stick and the mower stopped working. I have a large area to mow and the grass grows tall and fast, so when I called in a panic because I was worried I'd get a ticket for tall grass, they came right away! Not only that, but they picked my tractor up at 8AM and brought it back at NOON the same day! They also troubleshot a problem I was having with the clevis on my cart bending and attached a new part in a different configuration so it would hopefully prevent any further issues. Jim and Don are the nicest guys and I always have pleasant conversations with them. It seems to honestly make them happy to give such great service and I am not exaggerating when I say they go above and beyond to make sure they can do all they can for you. Jim even said he'd have mown the lawn if he'd had the time today! I cannot recommend them enough and am so thankful the Kalamazoo location was too full to take me a couple of years ago, because paying a little extra for the pickup/dropoff to Plainwell isn't that much more and totally worth it! I am hoping to purchase a home generator at some point and this will be the business I call first! read more

My father Herman E. Shelton visited the Kalamazoo Location in the hopes of purchasing a Stihl electric chainsaw on 10/09/2023. My dad had his check book showing he owned a farm and has been in business since 1962 along with his income tax business since 1982. The man there questioned my father asking what type of farm and the use of the chain saws intended use which dad indicated. Then this salesman stated bluntly that dad could not receive an exemption for his farm. My dad was prepared to write a check for over 1,000 dollars to cover the cost of the saw. After this treatment, he left very upset. Why didn't the salesperson provide a certificate for state tax exemption when it is the business responsibility to do so? My dad is black, and I am left with the impression this individual did not want to help my father with anything. Under State of Michigan requirements To claim a sales tax exemption, businesses must provide an exemption certificate to the seller. The certificate must include the purchaser's name and address, sales tax license number, a description of the exempt items or services, and a statement explaining why the purchase is exempt. My dad provided the tax exempt form along with the proper information but not provided with a certificate from your salesperson. My dad deserves better treatment that being 91 years old. That salesperson owes my dad an apology for his poor customer service. read more

Had my John Deere utility tractor picked up and brought to the Plainwell location for an issue it was having. Even though the problem was eventually resolved, they had it for 3 weeks which I don't feel is acceptable. The mechanic contacted me more than once as he could not seem to remember all the services that I had requested when I made the appointment. Is this not in the system somewhere?? And they also had it scheduled for a hydro service which I had contacted them and told them it wasn't necessary. This was a $500 service! Luckily I was able to cancel it AGAIN before it was performed. Also when the tractor was picked up the fuel tank was nearly full and it was returned almost empty, and the mower deck height had been moved as well which is very difficult for me to adjust. read more

I volunteer for a domestic violence shelter in Battle Creek MI. Our back up generator was in need of repair or replacement as it had a rusted out base. Steensma Power was helpful in getting us a price for a new generator that was workable. The old generator was going to be pulled out and junked due to its condition. I was able to sell the old generator at a significantly low cost to a party that had the skills and resources to repair it for personal use. When I called Steensma to tell them that it was sold, I got a lot of push back that it was impossible to salvage. I explained that the purchaser would add structure to the base before removal that would make it easy to remove without further damage. Still doubting, they agreed to see how it went. I suspect that Steensma was rightfully concerned that it would add time to the job if the removal went badly. Today, Steensma and the purchaser arrived on site in the morning and everything went well for both parties. The old generator came out easily with the shoring up the the purchaser did which made Steensma's job easier. The new generator was installed and working in about 2-1/2 hours. I credit the time that the purchaser spent to shore up the base and the coordination between partie for the success. I appreciate the installation team's cooperation with the purchaser. In the end, the DV shelter received some unexpected and needed funds. read more

We have used them for yearly tune-ups and loved their pick up and delivery. Last fall we gave them a great running John Deere tractor for a tune up and, since it was so late in the year, they stored it in the winter. In the spring, they brought our tractor back to us. When I went to mow the lawn, it would not run. I checked the flow of gas to the new filter and there was none. We checked to make sure the air hole in the gas tank cover was unobstructed, and that was fine. Well, if you give them a running tractor, you expect to get a running tractor back. So, we called and they picked up the tractor to see what was going on. The work order stated that the spark plug wire was loose and then they looked in the carburetor (which they should have done in the fall), and found junk. They then cleaned the carburetor. The original bill was around $300. This second visit cost us another $175+ to get our tractor back. Since we sent them a running tractor, in the fall, we expected a running tractor. After talking with various persons at the store, the service manager assured me that it was a necessary repair and the transporting breaks the particles loose. The point is we gave them a running tractor and got back a non running tractor. We feel transacted. We leave the interpretation up to you. We have lost our confidence in a company we once held in high regard. read more
