Don't miss this place. I've driven through Richland all my life. It is a nice, quaint little town. Today, we saw a sign for Richland Rum and spontaneously hooked a U-ey and headed over there. They weren't busy (actually, my fiancee and I were the only ones there) as it was 2:30pm on a Tuesday. Jamie was lovely and gave us a guided tour. We really enjoyed seeing the gear and hearing how it was all done. Then, we had a tasting and the rum was fantastic. We took home a Single Estate Old Georgia Rum. They have done a wonderful job renovating and saving some old buildings in old downtown Richland and thereby saving some old Georgia history and they grow the sugar cane locally. Nice job guys. We are Harvest Host members, and found this stop on our travels back to Florida. They are very responsive when requesting a stay! It's a beautiful building in a sleepy town (there's literally not much to do here!). We of course HAD to do a tasting! Well, I don't drink rum, but my husband was in heaven! Kim explained the barrel process, etc. on each and every bottle. Very informative! I did walk away with some coffee for myself :) It's a cozy place to sit and sip. There's a store and outdoor area for your enjoyment. We would definitely stop here again! read more

On my way to Albany I spotted a large sign beckoning me into this historic town and to the distillery, one of the largest companies in town. Richland specializes in exotic rum. XO bottle are aged no less than 10 year and can set you back $165 a bottle. Tastings are great too but not if you have a marathon the next day or expect to be driving. They have a wonderful ambiance. Cigar lovers would be wise to bring one of their favorites out of the humidor. I purchased a black label bottle $95 and an unaged bottle for $55, and then a couple of funny running shirt's as gifts with a saying "I thought they said Rum!" Funnier if you saw it. This is a sipping kind of rum, as delicious as any bourbon, perhaps even better. Next time I'm down this way, I'll pick up something else. Folks were nice and friendly. read more

I'm a native South Georgian, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a distillery about a 30 minute drive from my hometown. Over the summer, while I was visiting my family for the week, we all decided to finally check out this distillery. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised this company exists in the rural, Deep South of Georgia. We went for a tour and tasting. Walking into the front room of the distillery, it was very southern (naturally) inspired in its decor and appearance. Almost a general store feel inside the store front. We had a lovely and engaging tour guide who showed my family around the entire facility and described the process of making rum (of which I knew nothing). I love to see businesses growing and producing quality products where I grew up. After the tour, my brother and I tried a tasting flight of four different rums they produce. Rum is not usually my go-to liquor, but these were all delightful. I learned so much about the company, rum making, and impact Richland Distilling is making in its community. Highly encourage a side quest to this fun business! read more

Me husband and I stopped by after a quick hike at providence canyon. We didn't know what to expect but we were open to enjoying a rum tasting and tour. I am not a rum drinker but the drinks were really good they even had a mixed rum with pineapple that I really enjoyed. I really enjoyed the tour of the facility and gaining knowledge on how rum is made and how Richland rum distillery is a true Georgia made rum. Called the day before to just make sure we could have our little ones accompany us on the tour. We saw TJ in passing as Rick conducted the tour and Kim was there as well. They are very well ran business as well as hospitable and patient. We were the first couple folks that came through for the day so it was nice to have the tour for ourselves and hear about the process of how they make their rum and rum infused coffee beans. It was an easy choice to grab a bottle and bag of coffee beans on our way out. Definitely plan on coming back in the near future for either a restock or for any events they will be having in the future. As far as accessibility and accommodation it was really nice to not have to worry about carrying both infant and toddler since we brought a stroller but be aware that both doorways to enter the main building and for a part of the tour aren't super stroller friendly (to be clear this is NOT an issue for me; in my opinion don't bring a bulky stroller as I can imagine during busier times it'll be harder to get around) read more

Today a friend and I stopped at the distillery after completing a hike at Providence Canyons. We we immediately greeted at the door by TJ. TJ shared his wealth of knowledge on what makes this distillery unique and why it has been rated by Forbes to have the best rum in the country. It was very apparent that he is passionate about his job, and was more than accommodating. The building itself is BEAUTIFUL and would be a great place to hold a small event. While camping at White Oak Creek near Eufala, AL, we took a day trip to Plains, GA. Along the way we passed through Richland, noticed a sign for Richland Rum Distillery, and decided to stop in on our way back. We are so glad we did! TJ and Rick welcomed us into this spectacularly renovated complex of buildings. With light jazz playing softly in the background, we chatted with these 2 knowledgeable gentlemen about the distilling process. We toured the barrel room and distilling building which were quite impressive! The tasting room and gift shop are located in a beautiful vintage hotel which just added to the amazing atmosphere. The rums are world class and delicious! We bought a bottle as well as a bag of infused coffee and a bottle of the Almost Rum syrup. We like to patronize local businesses and we wish these gentlemen continued success! read more

We stopped by on January 4, 2022, just as TJ opened the store at 1000. We had a wonderful private tour of this beautiful and historic location; this is truly a gem waiting to be enjoyed. The facility was immaculate, to include touring the processing, storage and bottling areas. We learned so much about the rum process and what distinguishes Richland Rum from all the others. Walked away with a sampling of all the unique varieties of rum and a desire to return with friends in the future. Our hosts, TJ and Rick, surely embodied a "pride in ownership" seldom seen in our current society. They were not only knowledgeable but also extremely engaging and friendly. Also, the facility is Veteran friendly (thanks to TJ for his service, too). If you are ever passing through western Georgia (we were on our way to Fort Benning), it will certainly be worth your time. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to take a road trip to the distillery just from seeing the signs before. I am glad that we did. The buildings were very well preserved and there was a wonderful aroma of rum in the air. We took the tour (for free) which was very informative. At the end of the tour everyone got a sample of one of the four rums that were available. I had the Single Estate Old South Georgia Rum which was really good, but my girlfriend had the Richland Single Estate Old South Georgia Rum Chateau Elan Port Cask Exchange which was aged in an old port barrel from Chateau Elan.....That was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this tour and this rum to everyone over the age of 21 who likes rum. read more

Happened upon this via living social and what a pleasant surprise. The Distillery is located just outside of Plains, GA-home of former President Jimmy Carter. Richland is a cozy little town with a great distillery. Rich was our tour guide for the distillery. We got the history of the distillery, the local farm from which they receive the sugar canes, took a peak at the fermentation area and the bottling. The storage area is beautiful and ideal for a little get together with tapas. The tasting area is open and welcoming. The sitting/bar area is inviting with tables. Looking into holding our Christmas party at this venue. They even have a semi covered patio area out back. read more

My husband and I took a road trip from Atlanta to Columbus by way of Americus and Richland and stopped in for a tasting. Very cool experience. I am not much of a drinker, but my husband liked the rum and we both enjoyed learning about how it is made. The location is interesting as well. Very interesting place. Owner and tour guide gave a very good talk about the location history and then the rum process. The only negative was, for the price of the tour the tasting samples could have been slightly larger and the tasting glass should have been a souvenir. Many other operations doing paid tastings include the glass. We then tasted two delightful rums using barrels that has been used for either a local beer or wine after their initial rum use. Unfortunately neither was available for purchase. read more
