Why Five Stars? A Little Time Capsule off of 301 / 50 old Florida style and off the beaten path. Richloam General Store is one of those spots you stumble into and feel like you accidentally stepped 80 years back in time. The old tin exterior, vintage signs, and the history behind the place (it used to be the post office before it closed in the 1930s) gives it this super authentic, Florida-flatwoods nostalgia that's just hard to find anymore. Inside, it's packed with cool stuff, old-school sodas, shelves of vintage-style goods, and a candy section that my son absolutely loved. We ended up filling a little bag of mixed candies and split a strawberry ice cream, which somehow tasted even better because of the setting. The people working there were genuinely friendly, and you can tell they take pride in keeping the store's history alive. If you're ever driving through the area on 301 and want a quick, unique stop, this place is absolutely worth it. It's small, simple, and full of charm in the best possible way. read more

This was our final stop on our "VANISHING AMERICANA: Florida" adventure. It was the best of the three that we visited today. The owner was outside, preparing to greet a documentary film crew expected within the next 30 minutes. He greeted us with charm & a warm, welcoming manner. He told us about the history of the store, and how construction on the main road to the store hampered foot traffic. What a shame. His store is outstanding! Inside, the cashier greeted us with a warm welcome. She was a wealth of information about products I brought to her with questions. I bought the Strawberry Butter, loose tea for a Friggin' Sore Throat, and a clear sticker to publicize the place. Husband got a half pound bag of sweet treats including root beer barrels @$12 a pound for loose candy. When you first walk in, it smells heavenly. Coffee! You can grind your own coffee with the huge grinder by the cash register. There was so much to see in this small, cozy general store. All of the items were nicely spaced out and displayed. I tried to look at and read everything on the labels. As we checked out, i spotted the Amish made cookies by the cash register. I put in our pile a snicker doodle & oatmeal raisin for $1 each. I did not get the chocolate chip, but it looked just as delicious as the other two. When we left, we walked by 6 flavors of ice cream. Next time we'll get ice cream cones! read more

I absolutely love this place! Such a perfect day get away trip! Take your whole family and let your kids enjoy or take a day with you and your spouse! ORRR just take a "self care" day and explore. This place takes you back in time, the only thing that is in our time is the credit card machine, everything else in that store was sold back in that store from the 1920's. There is major history and so much neat stuff to buy! You could easily drop a couple hundred in this little cozy store. Definitely look up the history and check it out! read more

I love old General Stores and this one definitely lives up to the hype, it's well off the beaten path alongside a narrow road that winds through the piney woods. It's not likely you'll just drive upon this one, it's definitely more of a destination and in my opinion more of a museum than a retail store although they do offer some unique items for sell but you won't need a shopping basket here. This is a piece of history that should not be lost and I applaud those that have worked to keep it alive... read more

Charming old Florida general store! Not much I would purchase, but we did enjoy ice cream sitting on the benches outside. I so enjoyed the old building, especially the entry doors. It brought back so many memories of growing up in an era of old stores with wood floors, penny candy and glass soda bottles. It's a trip down memory lane! read more

If you happen to be heading back to Orlando on 50 you will pass a sign for Historic General Store of Richloam. About a minute later you'll see a road on your right turn down and you'll be like there's no way, just keep going and you will be transported back in time. We were in for a real treat this afternoon a bluegrass trio was playing out front. We would have stayed longer to enjoy them, but the mosquitoes were a biting. The shop has lots of jars of pickled vegetables and jams, sacks of grits and flour, barrels of dried beans, coffee and pickles. Bottled sodas of yesteryear. Loose candy in gorgeous glass jars. Cast iron pans. They do take credit cards thank goodness! What is neat is how they've preserved the post office, fireplace and try to keep it mostly historically accurate minus the credit card reader. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

A very cool place to visit. Full of history and yummy things to eat including old fashioned candy, a pickle barrel, Amish cheese, dried meat, and ice cold bottled soda out of an antique vending machine. Grab some snacks, sit on the front porch for a spell and swap pleasantries with other visitors. When you are done, if you have an appropriate vehicle (e.g. Jeep) and the weather has been dry, try the scenic route of dirt and grass roads (I think it was Riverland Road to Boogy Road) through the Withlacoochee State Forst back to Cortez Blvd. Very cool ride. read more

Such a sweet little slice of history. Cute little historical store. Filled with jellies and jams, unique salsa, fresh coffee beans, old time soda's in the classic bottles, fresh scooped ice cream. Friendly down home service with a smile. There was a Gentleman out front playing the banjo and singing and giving a little history of the area and the store. It is oldest general store in Florida. We've been aware of the Richloam General Store since its renovation and reopening around 2017, as we often pass through the area on SR 50. However, for some reason, we never turned down the small paved road leading to the store when we saw the sign. Last fall, I completed the Coast to Coast Bike Trail, and a detour from SR 50 took me right past the store. Unfortunately, it was early in the day, and they were closed. This week, as we were once again crossing the state on SR 50, we were determined to make the stop, and we're so glad we did. The store was surprisingly crowded with visitors when we arrived. As soon as it thinned out a little, we made our way inside and explored all the cast iron cooking implements available for sale, as well as the old toys, salsas, and various other items on display. What immediately caught our attention was the candy counter, where the different candies were presented in large jars, reminiscent of a time before modern packaging. You simply grab a handful and set it on the scale, as it's sold by weight. Of course, we couldn't resist purchasing our old favorites. Afterward, we headed over to the ice cream counter and ordered a couple of cones. It was very good and really hit the spot on a warm day. read more

Love this little gem of a store! Brought my sister with me today to check out this historical, wonderful, step back in time store! We enjoyed speaking with the locals and having help with our selection off sodas to buy. This place is always so welcoming and the staff extremely friendly. Stopping here made our day so much more memorable! We enjoyed the great selection of bottled soda, got some boiled peanuts and took lots of photos while listening to a man outside sing old tunes while strumming his guitar. There is also a terrific selection of toys that will make you reminisce about your younger days. Why not pick something up for a child you know and share those "good ole days" with them. read more

Well worth the drive. Takes you back in time. As a photographer, it is a must. As someone who enjoys history, it is a must.

Talk about Time travel. Well, your taken there when you step back into this country store...back into 1928. Imagine the railroad leading down the swamp and the steam engine chugging to a stop. Meanwhile, walking back to a time when things were a little simpler, jobs a little harder to find but yet children played safely on the front porch while listening to grampa play the harmonica, mom stewing okra and tomatoes in the kitchen, while granny shucked beans in the cane-rocker. Inside the store, they sell a whole array of old-timey candy, games, chips, and fashionable articles. Why heck, there's even mason jars full of your favorite pickles, peaches, relishes, jams and jellies. You can also hand crank a pound of your own coffee. Although this is a replica of the original building, you exit with a great feeling of yester-year. It definitely desires a visit. Be sure to read the historical marker. read more

Visited Richloam General Store while in the area to see the historic store & post office. Clerk was friendly, knowledgeable & not wearing a mask (required due to COVID-19). We bought a number of food items and were looking forward to enjoying the cured bacon this morning for breakfast. What a disappointment when I opened the package and the smell was nauseating. Looked between the slices and there was mold looking stuff. Sent an email to the store and the reply said they couldn't credit the card we charged it to without the card (not worth driving and hour for the credit) and the code on the package. Yes it was only $10 and makes us wonder about the other food items we bought. It was worth stopping at the store because we were driving right by and it's historic. Don't make a special trip since you can see it in less than 5 minutes.. read more
