Now, most Catholics will tell you... going to Mass on Sunday's any time after 9AM is like packing yourself into a sardine can. You'll have to fight for parking like it's Christmas at the shopping malls and squeeze yourself into the pews like you're waiting in lines at Disneyland. I don't know what it is about St. Juliana... maybe the word hasn't gotten out about this parish that has been here since 1965, but it's gotta be the best keep secret in town. It's never a problem to find parking, and the church rarely gets full, even for a prime time service at 11:00 AM. I also love that they have a special service for the Deaf community, integrating a sign language facilitator right next to the lectors. It is a small church compared to most, but well lit and air conditioned. The inside of the church reminds me of being in an overturned boat, with huge wooden support arches spanning the circumference of the building. St. Juliana is located right across the street from Cal State Fullerton. Super convenient to get to, near the 57 freeway, and with a great staff (Suzie in the office is just about the nicest person you'll ever meet), with an attached elementary school, and a very involved community, I wonder why it's not jam-packed every Sunday. Then again, I should shut up about it and enjoy the status-quo while it lasts!

We are part of the unique Orangethorpe Multiage Program on campus, and my kids have thrived! When I found the Orangethorpe Multiage Program I was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude. The Multiage's individualized curriculum has let my kids work grade levels ahead even since Kindergarten. They come to me after school so excited about a "hard" math problem they solved or that they used a new "juicy" word in their writing. Their learning has never had to slow down. Their curious minds are always fed with hands-on learning and monthly field trips. One of my kids has always wanted to be an engineer and he got to develop all those skills with an amazing roller coaster project. He learned to cooperate with his team, trouble shoot and struggle through failures, and help other kids with their projects too. At the end, we had a field trip to Knott's Berry Farm and we stayed from opening to close because we have so much fun with the other Multiage families. Another kid is a talented artist and loves that art is always in the classroom, but most especially when they get to draw nature from the class garden and on field trips to the Arboretum. The classroom itself is beautiful and inspiring. It is covered with artwork, writing, and giant math problems that kids work on over days. The primary class is huge and filled with a library of books, all of which any child of any grade can read. It is always warm and friendly with smiling kids and parents. The teachers know exactly what my kids need academically and support them emotionally with understanding, patience, and kind words. So grateful to have found the Orangethorpe Multiage Program!

From the time my son started in Ms. Cole's classroom, we saw a major shift in his wellbeing and behavior. He became anxious about school, and at home we began dealing with behaviors we had not experienced before. Most alarming: when Ms. Cole's name is mentioned, my son becomes visibly distressed. A child being that upset at the mention of an adult at school is a serious red flag and should be taken extremely seriously. Which, they did not. To make sure we were being fair and objective, we observed the classroom via the school's camera for nearly two hours with Dr. Chen, the former school principal. During that time, our concerns were not subtle, they were very clear. The overall tone felt cold and emotionally disconnected, and we did not observe warmth or affection toward the children. In our experience, Ms. Cole and Ms. Rokosz were far from affectionate, especially compared to educators like Ms. Ashley, who demonstrated a noticeably warmer and more nurturing presence. We had the chance to address this to them in person during a meeting. When my husband and I raised concerns, I did not feel the school approached the situation with openness, empathy, or a child-centered mindset. The environment did not feel emotionally supportive, and it did not feel like they were willing to thoughtfully adapt or collaborate to meet a child's needs. For a program that promotes Montessori values, the lack of emotional attunement and support was disappointing. The clearest proof for our family is what happened next: we moved our son to a new Montessori program, and within just five days all of the "bad behavior" stopped. That change was immediate and dramatic. The new school is truly night and day, teachers are warm, affectionate, responsive, and supportive, and the children there genuinely seem happier and more at ease. I don't write negative reviews lightly, but parents deserve to know that this primary classroom setting did not work for our child and the school did not handle our concerns in a way that felt supportive or emotionally safe. I strongly encourage leadership to take a hard look at classroom culture, communication with parents, and how children's emotional needs are being handled, because for us, the impact was significant. I cannot in good conscience recommend enrolling any child in this school.

The school has recently been gated due to many homeless people that used to be in the surrounding areas. The gate is "okay" there are always several missing bars in some areas of the school where hoodlums have broken through. Mostly to get access to the basket ball court during the weekends. The office staff is cordial and some what efficient. They have a health clerk on site, under the supervision of a credentialed nurse. They also employ several other support staff, such as play ground supervisors and morning parent volunteers that greet your child in the morning as they enter the main gates. The principal is friendly. She is always there when you need to speak to her, she has a great open door policy and will return any phone calls the same day. The teachers are all nice. They have recently hired some newbies which are very talented in teaching, bringing a fresh face to education. The PTA has also improved recently, bringing more family activities to the school such as the Father daughter dance, the Mother son dance, and various other special events that bring the community together. Overall I am content with Woodcrest and the quality of public education they render.
