Our generator had been neglected since Sandy, and although it had been drained, cleaned and winterized, not running it for four years was not a good idea. Storm Riley knocked us out in the early hours on Saturday, and our generator started, but leaked gas. Went in to the store about 10am and a short line of six - most with a similar issue - were lined up. The phones rang nonstop. Rich's picked it up an hour later on Saturday, while crazy busy, repaired it and dropped it back off Monday, all for a reasonable price. We will make sure they provide a periodic service to avoid things like cracked carburetor gaskets! Highly recommended. read more

Bought a mower approximately 4 years ago from this business. I wanted to support a small business instead of going to a big box store. The mower never worked right from day one. I brought it in for service three or four times and they were never able to fix it. It was clearly a lemon but the owner would not take it back in your help me. To this day the mower works, and still makes an odd noise and frequently shuts down. Been waiting over a month for a 10,000 KW generator repair. It was working very well a few days before it would not start. Replaced air filter, plugs and gas but could not pull start. Have been waiting weeks for them to start on it. They wanted to sell me a new generator even though the generator is not old and rarely used. I went here to get some advice (and knew I'd have to spend some $$) on putting my snowblower into summer hibernation. The guy at the counter was helpful in explaining what to do and told me what to buy. Total outlay $6.50 plus tax I told him in advance that I didn't buy my machine from them and rather than blow me off (get it, snowblower joke!), he simply explained the process of summerizing, step by step. My generator motor froze up and wouldn't spin. I took it to Rich at Quality Mower on Rt 202 in Cortland. He said they would open it up and take a look but probably something inside had broken and it was toast. The price for a new motor was north of $ 650.00, plus labor. They had it for a while and when I returned to pick it up the repair cost was... wait for it..... $ 155.00. Wait, what ?? They had indeed had looked inside and found a small key had come loose. No catastrophic damage. I brought it home and it runs perfectly. The take a way from this is: Quality Lawnmower could have hammered me for new motor when a simple repair was all that was needed. I went to use a chainsaw blade that I had sharpened there. It was too big for my chainsaw. It wasn't the chain that I brought in to get sharpened. Rich asked me if I had another chainsaw. I told him I didn't. He refused to give me a new blade to replace the one they lost. Worse than that...he seemed to be accusing me of the mistake. I had used him for years and had bought a new weed wacker and a new hedge trimmer there. Needless to say, I was upset that I had to buy a new blade and I had paid for a sharpening for a blade that I never got back. I will never go back there again!!! read more

I brought my mower for belt replacement. After 10days I called them &they said, they're finishing that day. Now mind you, no phone call and they didnt say anything about the mower or repair. I picked it up cost $105, When I got home I noticed the belt very loose, I went back and the tech said that is how Honda mower belts are. So they had my mower for 10days, didnt need a belt and charged me $105 to put cover back on. Communication sucks. read more

I needed a belt for my snow blower, gave them the model number and they sold me a belt that was incorrect for my machine. I installed this belt and it clearly showed that it was too big for the machine. I called him to tell him about it he told me to take photos of it on my machine and bring back the incorrect belt. Once back at his shop he came up with another model belt that was smaller than the one he originally sold me and that fit my machine but he would not refund me the money for the wrong belt I bought originally from him saying it was used. Apparently the manufacturer changed belt dimensions from one year to the other although kept the same model number. This authorized dealer for the machine manufacturer should have known this the first time I went in. He refused to take back the wrong sized belt he sold me, so now I have to eat the price of the wrong belt. Would not recommend this shop. read more

AVOID Rich's Quality Lawnmower: I contacted Rich's Quality Mower in February 2021 for a warranty repair on a Toro Snowblower that had a known drive belt issue from the factory. Rich explained to me it would take about a month to repair which I was okay with. During the middle of April 2021, I called Rich for a status update and was told that they werent servicing snowblowers right now, but that they were going to expedite it and have it done by Tuesday the next week. After not hearing from him, I called them on Thursday asking for a status and I received a completely different story. I was told that the snowblower was not worked on and that they don't plan to work on it until the September timeframe because they are busy with mowers. Rich is unprofessional, talks more than he listens on the phone, and clearly does not know how to conduct business in a way that focuses on customer satisfaction. A service complaint was filed and acknowledged by Toro and I am leaving a negative review so that others will be hesitant to send their equipment to Rich's quality mower for any type of service unless you expect to be provided false ETA's and lack of accountability. read more

10 days and they haven't even looked at my Stihl chainsaw! I'm getting it back and prefer to fix it myself or find another repair shop.

I called for service on my lawns tractor on April 28th and they came right over and picked it up. Unfortunately, it took over three weeks to get it back. That being said they did a great job on it. I am very pleased with their work but wish they would have communicated with me on how long it would take. Afterwards, Rich explained that they are extremely busy this time of year and in the future we should come earlier in the season. read more

Overpriced and poor service. $200 charge on a generator worth probably $350, no phone call to authorize work just did it. 2 hours labor at $90 per hour, hard to imagine there was more than 1/2 hour real labor... took advantage of the storm imo. Rich is helpful when I had so many questions as a new owner of these tools. Joe his #1 mechanic is totally knowledgeable and made a house call to tune up our generator.
