Oh boy, where do I even start. Rick was very quick to respond to my Yelp request: Rick: "Hi Rick here with quality workmanship and speedy service. Yes I can install your Outlets. Let's get started" Me: "Great, would you like any additional info?" Rick: "Yes a day and time." Me: "Great, how about this Wednesday at 10am?" Rick: "That works for me 10am. Send address" I sent my address Me: "I need 3 standard wall outlets, 1 GFCI outlet, a 220V outlet moved over (on the same wall), and an outdoor patio box wired up (currently empty)" Rick: "Ok got it" I thought to myself, "great, he's quick, available, good ratings, let me go ahead with this guy". I'll admit that I screwed up here because at this point I should have: 1. Gotten Rick to give me a quote for the work 2. Asked about his licenses, certifications, etc 3. Read into the other reviews some more Unfortunately, this is my first house, and this was the first contractor I had ever hired, so I didn't know the right way to do things. When Rick came over to do the work, he seemed like a nice guy. I showed him what I needed to be done, and he said he probably wouldn't be able to do some of the work in my attic and crawlspace. He then he told me that he realized that he forgot all the parts at home, so he would have to go to Home Depot. While working, he made sure to point out to me that he would have to charge extra for the 220V plug because it was "his insurance behind it if he got hurt", implying that his work was insured (as far as I can tell, it isn't). Five hours later, he had jigsawed the ever-living-f*** out of my wall, made a HUGE mess both inside and outside, and left early because "it was too hot" and "he had a bunch of work to do on another job at the church". I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. At the end of the day, he charged me $1900 for: - 3 new GFCI outlets - replace 1 existing outlet replaced with a GFCI plug - moved a 220V outlet a foot to the left When he moved the 220V outlet, he switched it from an in-the-wall outlet to an on-the-wall outlet. I asked him if he could put it in the wall like how it was, and he said "no that's not how we do it nowadays". Except, that is how they do it nowadays. The last place I lived was built in 2015 and had an in-the-wall 220V socket. I told him this, and he begrudgingly agreed to switch it out, asking me "are you sure that's how you want it?" (because it was just gonna be more work to install it the right way) After seeing the work he had done and how much he had charged me for it, I was not going to pay him any more. I asked him to send an itemized invoice for all the work he had done, and told him I wanted him to come back and finish the work on the 220V ASAP. I would never, ever, in a million years, recommend Rick Dunbar to anyone for anything -- construction, electrician, I don't care. He overcharged me LIKE CRAZY ($250/outlet, literally the wrong number of outlets) because he knew I wasn't experienced with how much it should have cost. He caused an incredible amount of damage to my walls which I then had to repair MYSELF. It's just unbelievable the kind of work some people will do when they know they can take advantage of the situation. Attached are photos of the work, Rick doing the work, and the itemized invoice. Save yourself some time and headache: - get a good licensed contractor - get an itemized quote ahead of time - 10% upfront, 90% upon completion, or no deal

Old 60 amp breaker that he claimed was new

CLAIMS TO BE A HOLY MAN AND DEACON AND THEN SCAMMED ME!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Today, I had three independent contractors that are licensed and bonded, come by. All three said that his work was ILLEGAL, SLOPPY, DANGEROUS and RISKS the LIFE of MY FAMILY. The work would have to be completely redone. I called up Rick and calmly explained to him what happened with the visits of the electricians. He denied any wrongdoing or danger. He just dismissed it and said, "Nah, I'm done with all of that. People gonna say what they are gonna say. That's what happens when electricians look at the work of other electricians." I mentioned that it wasn't a difference of opinion, they all said that the work wasn't up to code. He just denied it and said that he "didn't agree". I pleaded with him, saying that he risked my family's life, and that I could show him pictures of overheated wires that he installed. The other electricians all noted highly elevated cable temperatures beyond 100 degrees. He didn't care. In fact, he said he "was done" and hung up on me. I'm now spreading the word on my experience and reporting his shoddy work and shady practices to the contractor's board. I will also take him to small claims court. DON'T TRUST THIS GUY!

NEMA installed in my old house.
    Elmer P.

Rick was available, fast, and competitively priced. He came out to SF to do my NEMA outlet for my EV charger. Added bonus was he humored me by letting me watch and learn for myself as I'm a DIY type. I felt like an apprentice, but it was cool learning from a pro.

Tenant call on Monday (Labor Day) had issue by the washing machine in the back ADU with sparks coming out at the water hoses. Call everybody in town but no luck. Then saw Rick Enterprise out of Berkeley and he answered. He did came out the same day and took a look and shut down the breaker, did some minor repairs so tenant could have the power on over night. (5 stars) for coming out on a Holiday and took care of the situation. He told us suppliers closed which we understand and he would contact us tomorrow. Next day came, he call me from the store tell me how much materials will cost and told me he have to run new 150' of 2/3 awg from the main box in the front to the back unit. I told him why do we need change it? It's been working for years. Just check the plugs and the Sub panel around washer. I don't know anything about electrical, tenant is begging for AC because it was 115 degrees out. I ask him how much? He told me $7000 labor and materials. I said fine, he said he could get it done by today. Middle of the day got a text from him and the invoice saying $10,383. Labor $7000, materials $3383. I just let him finished the work then I will get back to him. It was on Labor Day weekend, 115 degrees, i live 2 hours away. I was just desperate to have someone out to get the work done asap. Turn out Rick is not licensed with the State, took advantage of the situation and over charge me. 1 and a half day of work for $7000 Wow!and of course materials $3383 was ridiculous too! Beware and be careful of this dude. He's out there hunting for elderly and desperate clients. We should of move our tenants to hotel overnight and get a few licensed electrical contractors estimate the next day. Lesson learned! Attached is a few photos of Rick Dunbar works, 220volts 90 amps wires exposed next to the fence that he sent to me after we paid him. He also sent me the paperwork that look like he's an agent working for an electrical company. They put him on there he could pull the permit for the company a few years ago. We will file and report him to the State contractor licensed board and keep him away from construction works. Rick if you read this, please stop taking advantage and over charging Peoples when your not even licensed. Have ethical and treat your customers fairly.

Rickey replacing my electrical outlet that went out.
    Jose V.

Rickey responded within minutes of sending him a request on Yelp. He was at my property within the hour and fixed my outlet switch within minutes of arriving. He gave me a great price and fixed my issue while teaching me what was going on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Thanks again Rickey!

Rick is not licensed or insured. We wish we had realized that before hiring him to do a significant electrical project in our home, based heavily on the reviews here. He left our house in a state of damage and disrepair, and we have had to pay licensed contractors a lot of money to fix the many problems he created. His "crew" of his "best guys" were complete randos he picked up at home depot (who claim he never paid them) along with his unskilled daughter who he tried to pass off as a professional painter. Given the hot wires he left everywhere, we are just lucky our house didn't burn down.

    Old fixture
    J L.

I highly recommend Rick's Enterprise. Rick showed up right on time (actually a little early) with a mask on and he was ready to go. He is a great guy and very efficient. He replaced three ceiling lights with ceiling fans and switched out a fourth ceiling light with a more modern fixture. He is competitively priced, less than four other bids. I've added him to my phone book and he will be getting a lot more work from us. Thanks for the great work Rick!

Still in the midst of finishing but the room looks so much better.

I discovered that about 2/3 of my outlets and lights weren't working. I flipped switches on my electrical panel multiple times; power was not restored. I called Five or Free, went through a screening with an AI assistant, and got through to Chloe, a dispatcher/scheduler (i.e. not an electrician) clearly working from home, with a baby in the background. Chloe was sweet and helpful and got me an appointment on Tuesday, May 26th. I had to take the 2:00-4:00 slot (I work mornings), canceling a tutoring session to do so. This was my choice, of course, but I did want to get lights and internet working in my home. The electrician was a no-show on Tuesday. Soon after 4 PM (the outer end of the window), I called Chloe (again the AI rigmarole first); she apologized. She said that there'd been a miscommunication and that the electrician had gone to another job. I asked if he could come to me next -- despite it probably being outside of the electrician's working hours -- since it was Five or Free's mistake; she said no, contritely. She set up a visit for the next day. Electrician Tommy Wilson came on Wednesday, May 27th, checked the electrical panel, noticed that one breaker was loose, and said that he or another electrician would need to come on a different day and conduct a more involved inspection, probably going into the garage and checking out the panel therein. He did a write up of the issue and showed it to me (but didn't email it to me, as I later discovered). He said he'd contacted the scheduler and gotten me an appointment for Friday, May 29th, and that I'd need to pay $475 up front, which I reluctantly did. After the second inspection, Tommy explained, the electrician would give me an estimate -- in other words, the $475 was just the base fee; there could potentially be an additional charge depending on the nature of the problem and the scope of work required to repair it. I got stood up yet again on Friday the 29th and called another electrician, JC Electrical Repair Services. Juan Carlos (JC) squeezed me in on Saturday morning before his other appointments. He whooshed in, identified the problem (a standing lamp that needs to be retired), replaced the loose breaker, let me confirm that all lights and outlets were now working, gave me a safety recommendation (a space heater I'd been using was too powerful for my circuits and thus dangerous to use), and tightened all the screws on the electrical panel, noting that any electrician should do that during a visit regardless of the purpose of the visit. He did all of this over the course of about 25 minutes. Later on Saturday, Vincent from Five or Free called. (He had called a few days earlier to check in.) He apologized profusely, explaining that they were short-staffed and stretched thin. He mentioned that they'd hired an electrician who's in the military; this fellow had recently been called to active duty, leaving them an electrician short. I noted that I had actually missed out on income twice, canceling a tutoring session on Tuesday because I needed to book the 2PM-4PM window, then doing so again on Friday for the same reason, and was out $160 as a consequence. Vincent again apologized and said that my payment ($475) would be refunded, emphasising the need to wait 3-5 business days before the refund would go through. I explained that because the charge was still pending, I couldn't yet dispute it. (I will check my credit card activity every day until this is resolved.) Conclusion: Five or Free is a terribly-run company, understaffed and with too many parties attempting to coordinate with one another. It also hires less-than-competent electricians. JC Alameda Electrician Services, on the other hand, rocks. It's just one electrician, I think: Juan Carlos Curisinche Gonzales, 510 828-4993. Give him a call if you need an electrician in Alameda County.
