The food at Ricky Bakery is decent, which is why I've returned more than once. Unfortunately, the service and overall operation seem disorganized. On multiple visits, I've noticed that the bakery struggles to manage walk-in customers, phone orders, and delivery app orders at the same time. There doesn't appear to be a clear or orderly process for ringing up customers and collecting payment, which results in long waits and confusion. I've experienced this issue at least twice. My biggest concern is the fees. I'm attaching a photo of my receipt and highlighted the charges. Ricky Bakery added a 6.5% service fee and a 3% card surcharge, for a total of 9.5% in additional charges when paying by card. When I asked whether the 6.5% service fee was a tip, I was told it was not. I was told the fee was for the quality of the food and service. I also asked whether the 3% surcharge would apply to a debit card, and I was told it would. In other words, the fee applies to card payments generally, not just credit cards. What disappointed me most is that I did not notice these fees being clearly disclosed before ordering. Customers should be aware of these charges before making a purchase. Someone walking in and paying with either a debit card or a credit card can end up paying nearly 10% extra between the service fee and the card surcharge, and that is important information that should be clearly disclosed upfront. This charge is not mentioned or displayed until you pay and see it on the receipt (if you look at the receipt). Staff could not answer what the service fee was for except to say "it's a service fee". This fee was not due to use of credit card, as that fee is also separately charged on the receipt and not disclosed either. Fee is not a tip as there was an option for that upon payment. This is a fee with no explanation. I am assuming customers have not noticed. Maybe the location is lacking foot traffic. Other bakeries in the neighborhood are not charging either type of fee. They should use this fee collection to scrub the floors and paint the walls. The location needs a deep cleaning. The staff is not welcoming and could not figure out how to use their register to complete a refund. They had to watch a you tube video to figure it out. I asked for cash but was told they couldn't. Until 15 minutes later they could not figure out how to refund my card ... all of a sudden they were now able to give me a refund as cash. ???? I took my business elsewhere. Cao Bakery, el Gallito, Brazo Fuerte, and Pinecrest Bakery are all in the area. I do not mind the fee, if I was informed before hand that would not be a problem. I never see anyone in here and always see a ton of pastry on their shelves at closing time. Always wondered what they do with it. I now know the old pastry stays on the shelves and eventually gets sold because my cuatro leches had mold underneath the dulce de leche. Was in the neighborhood and wanted to get a quick bfast before a meeting. Ordered the basic breakfast (easy fried eggs, ham, fries, cafe con leche and tostada with a side of bacon. My order took 20 minutes to start with a piping hot cafe con leche and below average tostada...with barely any customers ahead of me. 10 minutes after that, my long awaited breakfast arrived.... One egg was overcooked solid and included ham was missing. At the very least, the manager was very kind and offered me a refund. I did not eat. Other than the kind staff, this place doesnt deserve my business. There are too many legendary cafes to have to settle for this sub par quality. Do better, Ricky! read more

I'd like to start by saying that this has been my go to cuban bakery for years. Quality of their pastelitos was once amazing, then it went to mediocre and currently they are back to being pretty good. Service for me has been consistently good but I have noticed when they get swamped the atmosphere can get tense. I typically get the tostada and cafe con leche. Because in true cuban fashion, one must dip their tostada in the coffee. I also grab a a couple of pastelitos (usually the guava and cheese and the meat) to complete the cuban breakfast pyramid. I'm surprised by the many negative reviews but I would definitely recommend giving them a try. read more

See, it all started as follows. We often have breakfast potlucks at work. On many occasions, people have brought croquetas, and better still, they have brought spinach croquetas. On Sunday, January 22 I had breakfast at the Coral Way location, and unfortunately I lost my Apple Air Pods (which are paired to my iPhone). I returned on Monday night to retrieve them and the employees told me to come back on Tuesday to see Conchita (manager). I went back on Tuesday morning and explained everything to her. She refused to help me, even though my Air Pods are still in the building. I showed Conchita and the other employees the "Find My" screen on my phone, which clearly showed that the Air Pods are somewhere in their kitchen. None of them wanted to go in there and look. They even denied the Air Pods are in the building! They said "your iPhone is wrong". My iPhone is paired to my Air Pods, as well as other devices whose locations are accurate. It's crazy. It's conveniently located in the heart of the Shenandoah/Coral Gate Areas of Miami and the staff already know what I get so there's no need to request what I need when walking in. The Cuban ladies that work here are fabulous. They're super nice and provide excellent customer service. This bakery is extremely clean at all times. I love their Cuban coffee and enjoy the cafe con leche very much. There's an available parking lot for the bakery and if you can't find parking there then there's plenty of off-street parking (metered parking - Miami Parking Authority - Pay by Phone). The pastelitos and croquetas here are delicious. Most customers tend to purchase their empanadas but I've never tried them myself. My Cuban friend took me here a few days ago to try authentic Cuban food. We had the following: pan con tortilla, empanadas, croquettes, tostada, and more. They were so so so good in every way. Was just informed here that a Cubano sándwich does not have pernil and you have to ask for it. So here a cubano is ham and cheese sandwich. Extremely confused since this is the first time I've ever been asked to include pernil in a cubano. When I did ask for it they served me the same sandwich "Cubano" (with a bite missing) with a bunch of pork cold cuts. Everything was cold. This was atrocious. Ricky Bakery isn't huge inside, but they do have an impressive variety of things to offer from traditional Cuban pastries to desserts and sweets to birthday/wedding cake creation and decorating to made to order breakfasts and other foods, along with a handful of tables/chairs for patrons to sit and eat. There is an attached parking lot, but during busy times they sometimes ask vehicles to park 2 deep to accommodate everyone. If you don't speak Spanish you will most likely face a bit of a language barrier with the staff, as few here speak fluent English, but I've usually been able to get by by pointing or asking one of the customers or other staff to help translate when necessary. I've come to Ricky Bakery on a few occasions: The first was when it was my turn to provide a light breakfast at work for a special occasion. Normally whomever is in charge of supplying food for those breakfast events will bring donuts or bagels, but I wanted to do something a bit different and unique. I came here to Ricky Bakery, told them how many I needed to feed and asked for them to provide a box full of the appropriate amount of assorted Cuban pastries from the display case. I then went to other side of this shop and selected a few sweets like eclairs, lady locks/cream horns and a few other dessert-type pastries from the other set of display cases. In short, my co-workers (a handful of whom are Latin) offered high praise and were thrilled to have something a bit different from the usual donuts or bagels.
