April and May were eventful times for us because of Mother's Day, our 15th wedding anniversary (YIKES), and our son turning 1-year old. Also, both of us got fully vaccinated from COVID-19. It was a good a time as any to book a local photographer to help capture some memories via family photos. I did rely on Yelp to do research on a few places. Many baby photographers only accept newborns. They're able to use all sorts of cute props and arrange the baby in the cutest poses. Newborns are easier to sedate and often have their eyes closed. For a 1-year old, it can get trickier since they are a lot more active and easily distracted or irritable. Other photographers also charge you based on the number of photos - say 8, 10, or 15 and then surcharges for more. I finally decided on Ricky Wong's (W Photography) since his prices were reasonable and we got to keep all the photos from a 45-minute session. He suggested we do an outdoor shoot at nearby Dublin Heritage Park and Museum. That park has lots of historical buildings and provides a rustic background for photos. We actually had to reschedule the shoot the first time since the weather all of a sudden got windy and the baby was upset - probably too late in the day and hangry. We finally managed to complete the shoot the second time, earlier in the day with better weather and a more cooperative baby. We managed to get over 50 images after 2-weeks processing. Most of the time, our son was able to look in direction of the camera, though I wish he smiled more. I recommend W Photography for your general photography needs. Although they don't necessarily specialize in baby photos, they did an excellent job with lighting and selection of poses and backdrops. Our son managed to make it through most of the shoot and got slightly irritable only at the end. Do bring your own toys and noisemakers for distractions if you plan on a family outdoor shoot with a toddler! read more

I am updating the review for Wing from W photography after receiving our videos. Everything was delivered to us promptly and on time, and we loved both the highlights video and the full-length feature film. Wing was so responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. I cried a lot through my entire wedding day, and he managed to find the clips of me smiling and laughing and used those in my highlights video. Good thing, because I'm sure the clips of my teary face were highly unflattering. Everything in the video was very natural and really captured the spirit of our day. We hired Ricky for our engagement and wedding photography services. I first noticed him when he did our friend's wedding, and our friend had nothing but good things to say about him and his team. As a bride, I had to be really picky with our photographer as it's truly once in a lifetime! We loved our engagement session pictures! We picked a location about an hour and a half away, and Ricky happily agreed without charging us a travel fee! During the shoot, Ricky was very attentive and detail-oriented. He was patient and really took his time with us. We showed him pictures and backgrounds that we wanted, and Ricky successfully completed those shots. We LOVED our engagement pictures and could not wait for our wedding! About a week before the wedding, I spoke to Ricky on the phone and we went over our wedding day schedule. He gave us suggestions and advice on how to make our day smoother. And I'm glad we took it! On our wedding day, Ricky and his team showed up early and began shooting away. He knew exactly what he was doing and we let him direct the day. Ricky captured all the moments and provided directions on flattering poses during the portraits. If he felt an important moment wasn't captured, he asked us to do it again. During our slideshow, Ricky had a surprise for us! Somehow he managed to sneak in a day of slideshow for us and our guests. Ricky and team photographed our wedding in November 2011 (sorry, this review is so late!), and were FANTASTIC!!! I had the hardest time choosing a photographer and must have met with over 5 photographers in both SF and in LA before ultimately selecting Ricky. He is a true pro through and through. He provides just enough direction on how to pose, smile, etc., without being overbearing. His photographs are AMAZING...seriously, when I look at the prints I think, "is that really me and my husband???" He is well respected and known within the Bay Area wedding industry. All my other vendors were familiar with Ricky W, and admired by selection for photographer. His team was very professional as well as accomodating when we were scheduling our engagement session. He is very quick in turning the prints around as well, allowing us to use the photos from our engagement session (less than 1 month before the wedding!) in our wedding guestbook. However, what really "took the cake," were his same-day edits for our wedding slideshow. (I know, slideshows are so 5 years ago, but I still love them for weddings!). Being able to see the photos from earlier that day, and sharing them right then and there with all of our guests was amazing and so special. Ricky is one of the best photographers I have had the pleasure of working with. And I've worked with him several times. He is meticulous, patient, and goes out of his way for his clients. Despite numerous delays and set backs on our wedding day, Ricky went above and beyond in helping us to pack up all of our items and drove us to the event itself from our hotel. We had a lot of items he saved us. Our room was also on the smaller side, but he was able to make things work. He has a strong eye for photography and displays a unique perspective on what angles/lighting work best. He was friendly, open minded and simply a delight to partner with. I was so upset by my wedding photographer. I saw his work for an acqaintance's wedding and we hired him, thinking that we would get the same kind of service and attention to detail. Unfortunately, that is not what happened when the day came. He seemed in a rush and bored. But I wasn't sure what pics he was taking, as it was all a blur to me. When we finally got our pictures back, he barely shot any pictures of my groom and I at our portrait session. We had more pictures of our bridal party alone or having fun together and no pictures of the bride and groom with them. We also got a lot of pics of kids, which is fine if he had taken enough pics of the bride and groom and all the other guests there. He did not get a picture of the guest sign in table at the ceremony or reception. He focuses mainly on two people at a time. He ignores the other guests at the reception. I have no candid shots of them. I have no shots of details, like my reception table and my much slaved over centerpieces. My biggest regret is that I barely have any pictures of just my groom and me. There were no special moments. My photographer was off taking special moments of a select few of my bridal party. It was very strange and I have never seen so much focus from a wedding photographer on people other than the bride and groom. I was shocked and terribly saddened when I saw the lack of variety of pictures. He did such a wonderful job on the engagement photos and shoot. They were great, which is why I am so disappointed with my wedding day pictures. The day of the wedding, he dropped the ball and was distracted, unfocused, tired, and uncaring. I wish I had saved my thousands of dollars and hired a professional wedding photographer, who was actually invested in taking pictures of the bride and groom. As a bride, you hire a professional wedding photographer because you want pictures that you will treasure for a lifetime and everyone who was there, not just a select few that your photographer arbitrarily chose to take pictures of.... You also want to have a big picture view of your reception and all the little details and decor of your reception. My best advice to any bride/groom looking for a wedding photographer is not to be sucked in by pretty albums, nice slide shows-- you really need to find an honest photographer who delivers what he promises...not one who does the switcheroo by showing you the high-end product and if you pay say 3k instead of 6k, you definitely get what you pay for, even if he doesn't tell you ever that an assistant photographer will be taking most of the photos as a learning shoot, even though Ricky was there. I believe that's what happened to me on my wedding day. It pays to do your research and interview at least 5 photographers and don't be sucked in by the "sign now and save X amt of dollars but you need to let me know you accept by tomorrow" deal. I really should have known and seen the hard sell. read more

We used Ricky and the W Photography team for our July wedding. When we met with him at his home studio, he was easy going and his work spoke for itself. We sat through his presentation, got to get to know each other a little and ultimately decided to go through him for photography, videography, and photo booth. As hectic as we were anticipating the planning of our big day to be, knocking all of these out was a huge relief. Although correspondence was not as smooth as we would have liked, everything worked out fine in the end. Ricky's strong work ethic and genuine concern for making sure everything goes as planned was very apparent. He has a great eye for images, giving directions on how and where to stand. There were times where I wasn't sure how such subtle adjustments could make so much of a difference in our photos. The first shooting with him was very important because after seeing our engagement photos, there was no second guessing his guidance on angles and positioning. On top of that, we got a better chance to interact with him so that he better understood the type of casual/goofy personalities we were. On the wedding day, Ricky and his team arrived on time. Everyone was professional, efficient, and worked perfectly with our family and members of our silly bridal party. The photo booth was perfect as well. The layout of the pictures were awesome, we had no issues with ink, running out of prints or any of the other mishaps we'd experienced at other weddings. They even stayed after our contracted time since our guests were having such a great time with the photo booth. Loved the props too! Thank you W Photography! I used W photography for my wedding in March and my husband and I cannot be any happier with the work. We absolutely love our photos- from our engagement sessions to the day of the wedding, everything exceeded our expectations. Ricky was the first person I met with in person when searching for a photographer and he made my job easy as I did not have to look any further. For my husband and I , photography was a big aspect when we were budgeting and researching. We fell in love with his attention to detail and the way he captured the shots. From the inital meeting, he was able to answer all of my questions, had multiple album samples, and his work from the past year. He was professional and had an easy going personality that made us feel comfortable. He was also very good at networking us with other vendors including florist, makeup, etc. We booked him right away for both is photography and videography services. During the engagement sessions, he was very helpful in helping us choose a location and working with us (even when the weather didnt want to coorperate). Leading up the the wedding, he touched base with us going over logistics and details so there were no surprises. On the day of the wedding, he went right to work- he had a calm demeanor and just clicked away flawlessly and without intrusion to the days events. He even stayed past the time frame to capture unique shots and was working very hard after the ceremony to prepare the wonderful same-day edit slideshow- everyone was amazed at the turn around time with the photos and we loved watching it! He also worked flawlessly with our venue and other vendors! We were able to see teasers of the photos online and on the blog and received the photos within 2 months of the wedding. We were blown away by the photos and all my friends/family cannot stop raving about Ricky & his team's work! He takes amazing photos and I love his artistic flare to his pictures. He's very open to suggestions as well.
