I am from out of town and was at the nearby Quaker City Kart Racing Track as our local track closed to become a data center. :( Anyway, that means more business for Ohio. Yelp led me to this establishment and I'm glad it did! My meal was perfect. I started off with a bowl of the Lobster Bisque. It was served with nice bread and butter. The Bisque was very good! It was just right in my opinion and was a large serving. For my main I decided on the Guinness Beer Battered Icelandic Cod that others here recommend and it did not disappoint! Rarely in the USA does the fish and chips remind me of what I had in Dublin but this did. The fish itself was flaky and the batter was fried to perfection. It really was some of the better fried fish I have ever had. The chips were big English style and were a perfect accompaniment to the fish. It also came with a large serving of very nice coleslaw. I will definitely be back through the race season to try more items. read more

We ended up in the area by mistake then we did not know it was the car cruise so many places either closed or packed. We found this place and sounded interested and had the best seat in the window. It was very unique and authentically decorated. The menu had a lot of variety with some features. We tried the mozzarella block with was unique with the beer battered and balsamic drizzle. The lobster bisque was good but just ok, it was missing something. my pecan grouper was amazing but glad I left off the key lime glaze (it didn't need it) the garlic potatoes were great, my husband had the sugar cane cajun shrimp which were full of flavor as well. we were too full for dessert this time, but id come back to try the fish & chips! read more

Ricky's is a fine English Pub. Quaint, intimate, clean, well lit and it has a nice assortment of foods to choose from. As with many things, points are lost in the details. For instance, no proper English Pub would be caught dead with a carpet with French Fluer-de-Lis. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful carpet, but unless it's intended to be ironic, it's the wrong thing in the wrong atmosphere. The menu has many traditional items and some interesting choices. The Sauerkraut Balls for instance stand out as a very non-English item. Once again, unless it's meant to be ironic in which case I would recommend a name change. Aldolf's balls would be a cute fix. So, I started with the Lobster Bisque. Made from scratch, it has a wonderful texture, nice little pieces of lobster and a wonderfully full flavor. The cup had a little soup spilled onto the edge... once again, attention to detail. It could use a small dollop of something. Creme Fresh, a sprig of chervil... something. Something this nice needs a frame. It would be like hanging a Picasso with thumb tacks. It is a very well done soup. It needs a better presentation. Next up, a Guiness battered Cod with slaw and chips. The fish is a beautiful cut, nice and generous. Flakey and fresh! Fried to a golden perfection. Crispy on the outside, flaky and steamy on the inside. The fish and batter are a little flat in flavor. It's served with plastic ramekins filled with 2oz of Ketchup and Tartar respectfully. The chips are steak fries, so nice and thick, crunchy and fluffy. Served with a piece of kale and a lemon slice. Once again, the food is perfect, the presentation mediocre. Kale as a garnish... so 1980's. The tartar sauce is ok. Clearly out of a jar, not hand made. Nothing to write about. The ketchup, Heinz. The slaw was clearly out of a box. If not, this recipe needs SERIOUS work. It was creamy, crispy and wholly lacking any flavor. A house made slaw would go so much further and it is so easy to make. Once again, a lot of good work overshadowed by bad choices. Simple changes would turn this fish and chips from good into a masterpiece. I ordered a Tanq and Tonic. Served in a soda glass instead of a rocks glass. I honestly thought it was a water at first. A slice of lemon instead of a wedge of lime. Points off. Due to the recommendation of a fellow Yelp reviewer I did order the Cherry Chocolate Martini and it was absolutely perfect! There was even a hidden cherry waiting at the bottom of the glass! Nice touch. The atmosphere is mixed. When I first arrived they had Fox News turned up. Hardly the sounds to enjoy any meal with while they are spewing lies and panic. Then after everyone else left, music was put on and it was Rod Stewart sings the classics. Nice, but, not exactly Pub music. Parking is directly across the street so it's a short walk to the pub. they use a dessert tray instead of a menu, but the desserts look like they have been left out all day and it's not even 5pmThe daily specials hand written and xeroxed. Once again... details, details, details. It's a great local place, but why take shortcuts that undermine the good work done. I look forward to my next visit just to see if any of these suggestions are implemented to step up the place. Well... I never made it back to this place. Shortly after posting this review the owner took exception on my comments about Fox News being on the TV with the volume turned up. Apparently, asking for a proper dining atmosphere in Salem, Ohio makes you a Marxist! Really?!? You are going to piss all over your paying customers? I don't think it is asking too much to have a place that values the customers and keeps things neutral and welcoming for everyone. So, while the food is good, the owner sucks! Go down the street, there are plenty of restaurants with better food and a better appreciation of paying customers. It's called capitalism and the mighty dollars speaks! read more

Once again Ricky's food was great. Had mushrooms with crab on for an appetizer. I could have doubled it and it could have been my meal. They were great. Love the English Pub and love Ricky. Decorated in an English theme and nicely done. Some restaurants go a little over on decoration but Rick has kept it to a minimum. Wasn't able to get a chance to try their food as the hours posted online were not correct and we walked in and glanced at hours posted. Walked in to see and was not greeted at all and when finally caught eye contact of the server I had to ask and tell her the hours posted online. Are wrong. It's still Covid time but we needed to visit elderly relatives. The weather turned cold & rainy, so our picnic at the park got nixed. Someone special suggested Ricky's as they have a back room, called & it was available! We had a very nice mini family reunion! The food was delicious & my food could have fed 2 of me! The staff was so helpful! So glad it rained, with my allergies, I'm not fond of picnics, but more concerned with Covid. Learned of a new place to eat when we visit again! I was in the area for business, and stopped here. Wow. I wish this restaurant was near me back home. I had the Bangers and Mash and my colleague had the Sheperd's Pie. Both were great. Soup was good as well. Most places are like frozen dinners, and this place uses great ingredients and was superb. Atmosphere was nice. I highly recommend anyone in the area to stop here. Don't let the name fool you. This is fine dining with excellent service! It is a quaint restaurant, with a small bar. Tablecloths, and cloth napkins folded neatly into a tripod. Proper place settings and silverware. The food is very good quality, and surprizingly large portions. They even have a kids menu, with adult size servings. The server was extremely friendly, professional, and made our experience far above what you might expect in this little town. Plenty of parking. Great prices. A+++ read more

Pretty good food, it is a bit pricey for the area though. it is not a bad place to stop for a drink while bar hopping. Update: my bf and decided to choose ricky's for date night. When we went in we were quickly greeted. We were sat and the waitress left and didnt return for 5 min. She then took our 2 water 1 pop order and came back 7 min later with only 2 waters. mind you there were only 2 other tables in the place. Okay maybe it's not an authentic English pub but it's close enough. We ARE in Salem, Ohio. We've tried a few of the English dishes - the shepherds pie and toad in a hole. They were just fine. But we've also had the fish and steak and a variety of other things, even the pasta. I especially like the pasta dish with scallops. The setting in downtown Salem has its own charms as does the intimate pub. It feels like a place to go for a special dinner like an anniversary or the opportunity to meet with old friends. It can be quite busy at dinner time and the venue is small so we recommend reservations. But if waiting is okay with you it is a Pub and there is a nice bar where you can sit and enjoy a cocktail while you're waiting for your table. read more

Dont be fooled by the intrigue of an English pub in Salem, OH... It's not really English and I think it's actually some weird hybrid attempt at a cross between an English tea room and a pub. Either way - it smells pretty foul (that musty, cigarette smell) and it's pretty well used inside. I ordered the fish and chips - the chips were good - the fish pretty bad. The fish piece was this huge plank (and it was lunch), and it was soggy on the bottom. The fish you couldn't even get your fork into because it was so soggy. The coleslaw was way too vinegary Go down the street to Mikes Penn Ave Grill if you're in Salem and want a restaurant - it's not great but it's probably better and cheaper than the English Pub. read more

My dear friends hosted a 100th birthday celebration for their mother at Ricky's Pub. I must say the buffet that was served was delicious. Simple lovely food with lots of flavor along with a wonderful dessert. Because I had such a good experience for the birthday celebration I decided to back the following evening for dinner. I had a delicious steak and side dishes along with dessert. Excellent service - great atmosphere. The next time I am in Salem, I will definitely dine at Ricky's. read more
