This place is horrible with scheduling their classes! They have cancelled twice and sent texts out for cancellation 15 minutes before the class is supposed to take place! Totally of me having to miss 4 days of work! They're offering a refund, but they don't take into account the financial situations they are leaving their clients when they cancel on such notice! I had to request these days off from work to be able to take these classes! So unprofessional! Absolutely horrible experience. read more

I went into this course with zero motorcycle experience. Elliot was one of my first instructors. He was so incredibly patient with me. I had so many questions and answered every single one of them. I didnt pass my first time i did the evaluation so i took a second course for $50 which probably saved my life because i was not ready for the road. Dave with the english accent was pretty amazing as well. Now RED. i was having trouble weaving in and out of the cones. He got in cardio in by running side by side with me while i was riding the bike. He is a pretty special instructor. I would totally recommend this course. You get what you pay for. I took part in the 2 day beginners class this past weekend and have to leave a review stating how much I got out of the class and my experience. I grew up riding dirt bikes and dabbled on a few street bikes over the years but never had proper training or road experience. If I remember correctly, only one of my classmates had ridden before. The first day I had Bob for the classroom session. He kept the material fun and interesting while adding background information and context as well as tips and suggestions regarding different subject matter. It was very clear how much he loves teaching the course and helping submerge inexperienced riders in the techniques and culture of motorcycle riding. For the first and second range sessions, we had Bob and Elliott. They make a great team, Elliott is incredibly patient, professional and capable of breaking techniques and terminology down into easily digestible instructions on an individual basis. Bob was just as fun and insightful on the range as he was in the classroom, and both were very encouraging throughout each session. The only difference about day 2 was that we had Dave for the classroom session, and he's so laid back and casual yet professional that any nervousness about the knowledge test goes away quickly. His demeanor is chill enough to make you slow down and really listen throughout each subject. I truly have no complaints about Ride Rite. I might be slightly bias because they put me on a brand new, mint BMW lol. Either way, I'll be returning to Ride Rite for more training soon and I'm grateful for them helping me build my skill set and increase my confidence as I go after my motorcycle license and first street bike. Book a course with them, show up on time wearing the gear they require with an open mind, ready to learn and you will not regret it. read more

This review is for Ean. Try to schedule around his classes if you can. Overall I would recommend before you take this class that you buy a motorcycle and put several dozen hours on it. Ean proudly cuts classes short excitedly telling us we can all go home early by cutting corners and sapping hours of instruction. He refused to answer basic questions I asked either because he did not know California motorcycle law "What is the Db limit?" or because he thought it best I did not know "How fast should I be going when I shift gears?" During exercises, Ean would shake his head at me and send me back with no explanation of why. It was degrading and disheartening. This is a pattern: demeaning gesture followed with no explanation. His instruction was inconsistent and poorly delivered. I would be told to "look into the turn" and "look at the instructor" and would be scolded regardless of which I did for not doing the other. I found myself genuinely not understanding what he was trying to communicate to me. My motorcycle stalled on me once and I couldn't get it to turn back on so I pulled over and asked for help. He stormed over then tried to start the bike and it didn't start for him either; he eventually got it to turn on angrily spitting "This is a brand new bike!" A better approach would have been to tell me to give it a little throttle, and you're right Ean it is a brand new bike that's been not only dropped but rolled. Please refrain from taking your frustration about the state of your bikes out on me. He eventually asked another instructor to dismiss me before the test because I stalled. I thought they would only send you home because you did something dangerous, dropped the bike, or crashed but I was sent home for stalling. The correct course of action would have been to take me aside and spend a few minutes helping me understand why I had stalled. Overall this felt harsh, lazy, and inappropriate. If I wouldn't have passed the test let me prove that to you during the test. There was no necessity to pull me out early I was not a danger to anyone. Ride Rites rescheduling process is so bad they may as well not have one. You only have 60 days to retake the course and they're booked out a month in advance. It took them six days to e-mail me information on how to retake the class. You have to just keep showing up at 8 AM hoping they have space and pay an additional $50. If you have a job where you have to schedule time off in advance in order to take one of these courses you'll just be burning your PTO trying to get in because they have no system where you can actually reserve a seat and no one answers the phone. They also don't provide information on instructors so I have a chance of getting Ean and I just can't do that again. * The other instructors are phenomenal and are not reflected in this review at all. They are honestly absolute gems of human beings. read more

I just completed my CMSP course at this location. Bob and Elliott were my instructors for both days. Despite having ridden daily in London in a past life, my confidence was shaken by a nasty accident and I subsequently hadn't ridden in 20 years. I loved this course and learnt a huge amount over and above what I already knew. Their constant drilling about safety, riding techniques and how to get out of trouble is fantastic, as well as encouraging you to enjoy riding. Extremely worthwhile even if you've ridden before. I'll be back to do both the intermediate and advanced courses in the near future. read more

Before I get into the review here's a little about my history with bikes: Was raised racing motocross and then rode on the street for a couple of years when I lived in Ohio. I moved to California about 6 years ago and never regained my license thinking I wasn't going to ride anymore. Well I got the itch and wanted to get back into it but now that I'm married and older I wanted to be as safe as possible so instead of just going to the DMV I saw that this course was offered as a way to fulfill the DMV road course requirement while being way more comprehensive than just the DMV manual and a permit. You start off in the classroom going over riding theory and safety (it's really stressed) and then spend the rest of the day on the range with their bikes. The equipment they offered was really nice, I had a brand new BMW but I opted to bring my own gear (it was really hot, it's the SFV after all and I'd rather sweat in my own stuff). This class was equally suited for someone with a bit of experience to the person who's never sat on a bike before. You start off slow and gradually build up those skills until you take the test on day 2. The instructors (I had Bob and Elliot who were great btw) really want you to succeed and if you're open to learning they will make sure you're successful. It's not all dry content and they try to make it as fun as possible (you're on a bike all weekend how could it not be fun??). Overall I HIGHLY recommend this location if you want to safely get into riding if you have some or no experience at all. read more

The instructors we had were Elliot and Katie, both were knowledgable thorough with the curriculum, but were also kind and patient with everyone. It is stressful getting on the bike for the first time, on an expensive piece of machinery, with a group of about 10, and then getting tested in front of everyone. FYI - if you're a Vespa/scooter/moped person, be very adamant about doing the range course and test on that. Otherwise you'll have to do everything on a motorcycle, and take the test on one. Don't get me wrong, I'm so glad I learned how to ride a motorcycle and use the clutch, it's just not why I purchased the class. I wanted to get road ready on my Vespa. Bernadette is amazing, and she worked with me. I loved her in class and on the range. Badass woman! Also....be aware that 6am classes in the valley can get super cold!! Bundle up! I definitely recommend spending the money to take a motorcycle course. Driving the streets of LA is totally different than off road or suburbia. Learning about the proper gear alone has already saved my butt (literally). read more

If you're considering learning how to ride or even just brushing up on your current skills, this is the place to do it. I had the opportunity to learn from Elliott, Red, Bob, & Tiffany. Every instructor was great in their own way. I really struggled during my initial range time to what seemed like even get the bike moving. Because I didn't pass the skills test on my first attempt, I went back an extra few days for more practice. The instructors were all very patient with me & continued to be encouraging even when I felt like I wouldn't be able to succeed. On my second attempt at the skills test, I passed! I still have a very long way to go- but this course gave me the foundation to embark on riding with confidence & to stay safe doing so. Don't be discouraged if you aren't picking it up as quickly as your classmates. Everyone learns at a different pace & if I can do it, you can definitely do it!! Also, don't be afraid to ask questions! The instructors are there to help & really do want to see you advance. With a few different motorcycle riding school options in the area, I was unsure of which one to go with but I am genuinely happy I went with this one! Red and Elliot were the best instructors and were incredibly patient and easy to understand. Red radiated positive energy and I had so much fun learning every minute. Elliot always gave precise feedback during each exercise and both instructors made an effort to remember our names incredibly quickly, and a student, I felt very seen when they took the time to make sure each of us was doing the right thing each exercise. They also had both helmets and gloves to borrow, unlike other driving schools which were convenient. One thing to say is that the course is a tad small so if you're looking for a place to practice high-speed riding this may not be the place. Other than that! As a person riding a motorcycle for the first time, I had an incredible experience and highly recommend this course. read more

Positives go out to Zig, Elliot and Turin; instructors who enjoy teaching as much as riding. I went in having sat on a bike once, and left knowing all the basics. I'm confident enough to get my license now and starting cruising. The goal was to learn how to ride, and this course was the reason I accomplished it. Negatives: the practice bikes were crap. Each one I rode had some sort of clutch or throttle issue. The lecture room was like being in a federal penitentiary and they had no proper restrooms, just a few nasty porta-potties. I won't name the instructors who had no business being there, but man were they dicks. Overall recommended. read more

So my wife wanted to get her license, and knowing relatives had taken these classes before, I told her she should take this class and not just go to the DMV and get a license. She refused unless I would go too! Ok, so I went with her for support. I've been riding for 40 years, and I still learned a few things, plus I had fun. The instructors, Ian and Ted, were entertaining while still teaching everyone how to ride, the entire class was made up of novices (new riders), and safety at the same time. You never really know what you don't know until someone shows you! So whether you've never ridden before, or you're a seasoned veteran (like me), this is a class you should really take, for everyone's benefit! read more

Dave is an old grump. The younger instructors are atleast nicer and care about their students/instructing but Dave will yell for no reason and talk down to you the entire time. I felt he was especially salty towards me because I had experience, but he would still scream at inexperienced riders when a simple, calm, 'no, don't do that/do this instead' would have sufficed. I've done multiple bike courses in my home country and the instruction given was night and day compared to this course. The instructors in my home country were warm and willing to coach and listen to their students. Meanwhile Dave is angry he had to get up today and will scream and yell at anyone who dares irk him. I took the Intermediate/Refresher course in Van Nuys yesterday and couldn't be happier. Instructor Katie was superb, bringing 6 different ability levels on 6 different types of motorcycles along through drill after drill. Her enthusiasm for learning to ride skillfully was contagious and she challenged and encouraged each of us at our own level as if it was a one-on-one lesson. And DoorDash for extra water and gatorade mid-day when supplies ran low! I rode home a more confident and skilled rider with plenty of skills that I am excited to work on, both on the road and in an empty parking lot. read more

My husband surprised me with a scooter and even though I already have my motorcycle license, I wasn't confident because I hadn't ridden in a very long time. What's great about Ride Rite is they offer private lessons. I highly recommend! I took a 2 hour private class so I can get comfortable with my scooter. Elliot was my instructor and he is great! Prior to the class, we were already in contact and asked me what it was I wanted to get out of the lessons. Based on our conversation, I got the most out of the lessons. Not only did he have me do the basic curriculum, but also worked on my weaknesses, such as cornering and counter steering. And on top of that, Elliot is just a wonderful instructor. He made me feel enthusiastic about my scooter, gave me positive constructive criticism and was very professional the whole time. I signed up at ride rite..I had bee in a car accident in Dec and didn't find out the severity of my injuries until the day before my scheduled class. I pleaded my case to them. They refused even a partial refund. I suppose I could have went to the class and found out if my Dr was correct about it causing further injuries.. Anyway I understand their no refund policy , but think they could have been more flexible and met me halfway with a partial refund. I definitely would not recommend this school. read more

I recently took the range class on 05/18 and 05/19. Katie and Elliot were my instructors. As a person who has never been on a motorcycle before other than riding "cupcake" over 25 years ago, I was a little nervous. However, Katie and Elliot are excellent instructors and I recommend anyone who is thinking about learning to take this course. Both Katie and Elliot are very patient and are very encouraging even when I made mistakes. I was extremely please with my improvements after the class considering that I had zero experience on a motorcycle. At the end of the class, I was surprise to learn that I really enjoy riding and now see why so many people love riding motorcycles. They also offer two additional advance classes to improve your riding skills. I will definitely be taking those additional classes once I get the basic skills down.
