I loved that this was an option. We recently visited and wanted to find a hop on and off bus to…read moreexplore the city. This is actually funded and doesn't cost anything to ride. It does only run in 1 route from Main Street in downtown Kansas City. It has 16 stops pretty well spaced out and goes to the River City Market areas to Union Station, in addition to other spots in the city. I liked it because it was a quick ride up and down, runs from 6am to midnight or 1am or 7am to midnight depending on what day. And cars run every 10 to 15 min/ 12 to 18 min. The cars are clean, air conditioned, and have ample seating/handles for standing. At the end of each stop you have to exit and re enter at the other side. Nobody is allowed to remain on board at the end of the line. It is nice to know that the car operates during holidays, but modified hours. Looking forward to exploring this option again once I'm back for a visit since more extensions will be opening soon.

Use this street car so you don't have to search for parking downtown! Street car is very clean for a public use transport. There are priority seats for the elderly and Handiabled riders. Also, I'm having this badly-sprained ankle so mobility has been a real challenge for me in this very-car-friendly city (pour moi: no walking or driving for now :-) This.... until I met this really great taxi driver from the Yellow Cab Company, Tim. I don't know his last name, but anyway, he wants to be called simply as Tim the Cabbie. He's very polite (which is a rare quality, even for NYC cabbies), poised and knows a lot about Kansas City. So for such a KC novice as I am, it is a total treat to have a taxi driver who can also guide me to what's what around the city. He's also very friendly without being overbearingly talkative, very helpful, attentive and... he's just great. It's been so great that I decided to write this review and hope that anyone out there who needs a good, reliable, safe taxi driver will contact him and that he will get more clients!! Some bigger cities have much worse transportation and some smaller cities have none to speak of. So Kansas City handles it well, probably because it does have a sizable poor population that need it. It's clean and prompt and pretty good, at least the 3 or 4 I've ridden on. There are bad reviews, yes, but we haven't had problems with them.

I rode it from the Kansas City Airport to the downtown area recently. Have to say it's nice that KC has a scheduled bus service from their airport to their bustling downtown district. What a concept! Here in San Diego there is no direct dedicated bus line or trolley to or from San Diego's Airport that carries people to where they need to go. The cab union made sure of that. Therefore, I was happy to see I could catch the 229 at Kansas City Airport's Terminal C and save myself a $40 Uber ride downtown. Now I had no idea what to expect getting on a bus in such an urban area that I had never been to. But I sat upfront and hung out near the bus driver. Sure there was some sketchy folks riding the bus, who, thankfully, headed towards the back but the vast majority of riders seemed decent & looking to get somewhere like a job or school. The bus I was on appeared clean and was on schedule. It was a reasonable $1.50 to ride one-way and you can purchase day passes for $3.00. Fares are discounted for the disabled to .75 cents one-way, if you show your Medicare card. I was impressed enough to give KCATA a very respectable 4 YELP STARS.
