The street tram, looking very futuristic. Must ride this!
    David B.

I visited KC for a few days and wanted to use public transportation. They have no subway, but the Metro bus system is good, with large, clean, air-conditioned (I went in August!) buses that go everywhere and arrive on time. The long rides I went on were only $1.50, or you can get an all-day pass for just $3.00 (as of 2016). There is also a downtown ultra-modern street tram that I think the day pass covers as well; I haven't ridden it yet. One oddity: the bus that goes to MCI (the larger, outlying airport) is called the "KCI" bus, KCI standing for Kansas City International. There is also a smaller downtown airport called MKC. This all confused me upon arrival, but it was soon obvious that KCI = MCI. Other than that, I highly recommend it. Good job, Kansas City!

The driver almost dropped me off at a civilian area instead of the main entrance to the hospital. When I get the messages, it's an automated message. The message states ''Your vehicle is on its way'' and it also states ''Your Vehicle has arrived'' In which is confusing because sometimes I do not see the vehicle that is supposed to pick me up. The automated messages do not state that the driver is late until they have missed me, in which should not happen. Sometimes, the driver goes to the wrong entrance. Why? It's mainly due to their GPS system being outdated. Even most drivers claim that their personal GPS system has way better tracking then the one that is both required and is supplied to them. This review is to state that the GPS system that is supplied to the drivers either needs to be disconnected or allow drivers to use their own personal GPS.

Some bigger cities have much worse transportation and some smaller cities have none to speak of. So Kansas City handles it well, probably because it does have a sizable poor population that need it. It's clean and prompt and pretty good, at least the 3 or 4 I've ridden on. There are bad reviews, yes, but we haven't had problems with them.

It does only run in 1 route from Main Street in downtown Kansas City. It has 16 stops pretty well spaced out and goes to the River City Market areas to Union Station, in addition to other spots in the city. I liked it because it was a quick ride up and down, runs from 6am to midnight or 1am or 7am to midnight depending on what day. And cars run every 10 to 15 min/ 12 to 18 min. The cars are clean, air conditioned, and have ample seating/handles for standing. At the end of each stop you have to exit and re enter at the other side. Nobody is allowed to remain on board at the end of the line. It is nice to know that the car operates during holidays, but modified hours. Looking forward to exploring this option again once I'm back for a visit since more extensions will be opening soon.

The Kansas City Area Transportation (KCATA) "is a public transit agency in metropolitan Kansas…read moreCity. It operates the Metro Area Express (MAX) bus rapid transit service in Kansas City, Missouri, and 89 local bus routes in seven counties of Missouri and Kansas," says Wikipedia. I rode it from the Kansas City Airport to the downtown area recently. Have to say it's nice that KC has a scheduled bus service from their airport to their bustling downtown district. What a concept! Here in San Diego there is no direct dedicated bus line or trolley to or from San Diego's Airport that carries people to where they need to go. The cab union made sure of that. Therefore, I was happy to see I could catch the 229 at Kansas City Airport's Terminal C and save myself a $40 Uber ride downtown. Now I had no idea what to expect getting on a bus in such an urban area that I had never been to. But I sat upfront and hung out near the bus driver. Sure there was some sketchy folks riding the bus, who, thankfully, headed towards the back but the vast majority of riders seemed decent & looking to get somewhere like a job or school. The bus I was on appeared clean and was on schedule. It was a reasonable $1.50 to ride one-way and you can purchase day passes for $3.00. Fares are discounted for the disabled to .75 cents one-way, if you show your Medicare card. I was impressed enough to give KCATA a very respectable 4 YELP STARS.
