Just picked up 3 yards of his Doobie Dirt (growing veggies but hey, if I wanted to grow ganja it would be great for that too). Matt was friendly and super helpful AND he knows what's in this stuff and documents it. He even loaded it first before charging me which is a bit of trust I appreciated. Will try to update when the tomatoes start producing but I'm confident that this stuff is some great earth.

Price wise it looked average to me but for great value because it was a lot of bang for your buck. The owner came by as I was leaving and was also SO nice! She explained to me that the specific plant I was looking for grows very slow and although she does have some sprouting trees to check back in with her and they should be good for me to pick up, I didn't get her name but she was lovely and very knowledgeable as well!! Myself, husband and 4 kids (4-11) found a perfect day trip from Sacramento to the Amador Flower Farm. A main attraction for our family was the picnic area beside the pond full of koi fish, turtles and frogs. A food dispenser ($0.25) was endlessly fun to feed and attract the pond inhabitants and observe their patterns beneath mature oaks brimming with sparrows, red winged blackbirds and other songbirds. We brought our own picnic food, bought a bottle of sparkling wine at the gift shop/tasting room, and sat for more than an hour spending time together. Later, we wandered through the gardens and enjoyed the beautiful blooms, many of which can be purchased to bring home. The paths were easy to navigate for our mother with a bad knee. It's straightforward to get here, and well worth the hour from the Sacramento area. What an incredible afternoon!

I got holy basil last time I was there, which was exciting because I don't find it anywhere else locally as a live plant. I almost expected to pay a premium for it, but it was fair for sure. Some things are higher in price, but you get what you pay for, so as far as that goes, quality is found at this nursery. Worth exploring if you've never gone.

It is owned by a local woman entrepreneur. The garden center building is compact and filled with practical functional items and fun decorative items (perfect gift items). Some of the items are heirloom and organic flower & vegetable seeds, seed potatoes, plant food, gardening tools, houseplants, pots/planters, garden art, and wind chimes... just to name a few. Outside is the nursery with native flowers and plants, fruit trees, and vegetable plants. The outdoor area is compact. The plants are labeled to indicate if they are deer resistant which is important in these parts. Deer is abundant in these parts, and they have an appetite. The nursery inventory is thoughtfully laid out. Towards the back of the outside nursery is where the yoga studio is located. In addition to the yoga studio, there is a concrete patio with a view of the nursery below . That is where the outdoor yoga classes are held. They offer instruction in various types of yoga. The class schedule and pricing is posted on their website. Take a peek, pricing averages $15 a class and 10 class purchase is $120. The owner recently opened a cafe on the property. Nourish Cafe serves up cold pressed juices, fresh fruit smoothies, artisanal coffee, nourishing soups, and vibrant salads. Finding parking can be challenging. There is about 12 dedicated parking spaces in front on Green Valley Road. However, this place is popular. But there is no way I could resist stopping in the Nursery to check out all the beautiful plants. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Pricing is not outrageous. This is one of the few independent owned local nurseries not yet gobbled up by a big franchise. On this past visit, I bought a bell pepper plant and a jalapeño pepper plant. The plants were about 3-4 inches tall and $3.99 each. They were healthy and gorgeous looking. Know it's up to me to keep these gems alive. Ohhh the pressure. They have a large assortment.... they have a bit of everything... succulents, roses, fruit trees, shade trees, houseplants, and seasonal vegetable plants. They also carry plant food, soil, garden decorations, pots, and gardening tools. The setup is rural and rustic but not amateurish. The parking lot is a gravel lot as is the nursery grounds. So leave your high heels at home. Another thing ... that unlike the big box shops, El Dorado Nursery does not have warranties or provide refunds for plants. Plus no dogs are allowed. They wreak havoc on the mental health of the resident chickens.
