This is a difficult feat, as most lumpia Shanghais are pork-filled; some offer chicken, but, honestly, it's just not flavorful. I saw that N &N, aka Nena's (on their sign), has a hot food bar as well as catering services. I double-checked that they had beef lumpia and made sure that they wouldn't run out by the time we got there (since it would be bit of a trek). You make your way to the end of the market, and you place your order(s); lumpia is made fresh-to-order, and I could see some of the staff filling and handrolling the lumpias in the kitchen - such a good sign! The lumpias came out piping hot, and I loved that N &N serves it with the sweet chili sauce (instead of that other weird sauce that other automatically include) - these were deep-fried, crispy, and the beef filling was flavorful and garlicky. There are also frozen lumpias that you can fry up at home, but the convenience of eating them right away is a plus! I'd love to try out their lunch combos and their empanadas on the next visit. The dish in it's entirety was flavorful, not the least bit spicy (as some Asian dishes are known to be), included bits of cabbage, carrots, red and green peppers giving you a nice crunch to compliment the textures of its accompaniments. It's plenty for one or even sharing. Need I mention the lechon? It was impecable per usual. Not too fatty nor greasy, just meaty and crispy. My husband walked in to grab some drinks and ice cream for our kids and an employee was mopping and was very loudly and rudely voicing about how my husband was walking around the whole store while she was mopping. With it being such A big deal that my husband was shopping at this store during active hours at 4:05pm and was messing up freshly mopped floors, we will not be walking through Bird Dogs store again. "Hopefully" the employee was able to clean up all the spots my husband made while purchasing merchandise. With my husband being a Hispanic man it felt like he was being racially mistreated because when a white man with mud all over his shoes walked in as my husband walked out nothing was said to the white man.

We did try to catch them ourselves, but they weren't biting! LOL. Instead of going out to eat at a restaurant, I suggested we do a takeout order to be able to take our time and fully enjoy at home. Years ago, we had the crabs at a restaurant and it took me HOURS to pick them! I think my brother-in-law felt bad (and the rest of the family was getting impatient) and started picking the last few for me, because it was taking soooooo long! He suggested we go to Crab Knockers, a local seafood shop that sells fresh seafood, but that also cooks it for you! Inside, they have old arcade games with a fishing themed decor. They have a case full of seafood with a combo of locally sourced and brought in from other places. The shop was quite busy with a steady flow of patrons. We got 2 dozen blue crabs, steamed with J.O. seasoning (medium spice) and it came out to roughly $60! It took about 20-25 minutes or so. When we got home, we got right to work. My brother-in-law showed me the proper way Marylanders (is that the proper term?) and I think I got the hang of it by the 3rd crab hahaha. Even my oldest managed well! Crabs were delicious! Some claws were a little overcooked, but that's just the nature of seafood and takeout. The body meat was perfect! There is a lot of work for these little guys, but it fed me and my oldest as our only dinner and a few other family members who ate one or two. We even had enough crab meat for two crab cakes for breakfast the next day! I highly suggest checking them out. It's less expensive and less work in terms of cooking (and mess)!
