Yelp Review 2026 #152:…read more Zermatt station is small. It has trains going/ coming from St. Moritz, Chur, Tasch, Visp, and Fiesch. It only has 4-5 platforms so, it's quite impossible to get lost. From Bern, we took a train to Visp. from Visp we took Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn to Zermatt. The seats are a bit narrower even in first class with a 2-1 configuration vs 2-2 configuration in second class. There are power outlets in first class and there was nobody else in our carriage so, it was very quiet and peaceful. It was a comfortable 1.25hour ride.

Warning that it gets very hot in the train on sunny days so bring sunglasses and layers. Also online it says that you are not allowed to take skis onboard but we were able to take both of our ski bags with no issue, there was even a rack to put them in. Just make sure to be one of the first onboard to ensure space. To note on the above too we actually tried to ship our skis to St Moritz via SBB but the reps for SBB refused to mail them once they found out we were only doing that because the glacier express website said not to bring them and they told us they've never seen skis get denied boarding from Zermatt.
The scenery that this train passes through is very spectacular and there are certain portions where…read morethe train is climbing up or down some pretty steep grades and it can feel like a roller coaster ride, especially with the sharp turns. The entire route goes from Zermatt to St Moritz though I only rode the Brig to Chur portion which includes the highest point of the entire line. However, the train requires a reservation which means you can't decide to get on on a spur of the moment and it's pretty reasonable that they require a reservation: it was packed when I got on and it was only a Wednesday in May which is the off season for travel in Switzerland. The reservation was pretty pricy as well and that doesn't include the overpriced (but still decent) food they serve on board. Keep in mind that most if not all of the length of the line is covered by other trains which you can ride for no extra charge with a Swiss Travel Pass though you may need to change trains many times. The crowded and somewhat loud setting of the train does take away from the experience a little; if you don't mind appearing antisocial, definitely consider bringing noise canceling headphones. Honestly, I would only recommend booking this if you happen to be going in this direction anyways (or in the other way from east to west along Southern Switzerland); I don't think it's worth the time and money to go out of your way to take this train if, say, you're going back to the same hotel to spend the night after finishing your journey on the Glacier Express.

It wasn't the perfect weather (clouds covering mountains) during our visit but enjoyed every bit of it. Amazing and memorable views no matter where you look. Highly recommended and one of the must visit places while in Switzerland!

The experiences can vary from day to day (and season to season) since there are so many different activities and sights to see in the area. You could really spend a whole week here. We started our journey to Jungfraujoch from the Grindelwald Terminal via the Eiger Express. It's the fastest way to get to Eiger Glacier station. There are some amazing views of Grindelwald and the Eiger during this 15 minute ride. After that, we walked through the main part of town to take in the Alpine scenery all around us. There are many shops, restaurants, and hotels decorated with flowering plants. They could all be that beautiful postcard picture with the Swiss chalet and mountain backdrop. It's no wonder why this has become a very popular resort village. Even the views between the houses and shops were amazing. It was a dream come true. A place that we always wanted to visit together. A very happy place!

Yelp Review 2026 #114:…read more When you stay in Interlaken, you have two options: stay close to Interlaken Ost or stay close to Interlaken West. Both have pros and cons depending on what you value. If you want a quiet area and plan to go to Harder Kulm, Grindelwald, Jungfrau, and Lauterbrunnen - stay close to Interlaken Ost. If you like shopping, lots of restaurant options, nightlife and plan to take a cruise to Lake Thun a stay close to Interlaken West. If you're taking a train to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald - be sure to pay attention to the labels on the floor. Everyone good on. The same train number but you don't want to hop on the wrong carriage. The train splits in Zweilütschinen. If you have 1st class ticket, you might want to slum it out in 2nd class on the right carriage or keep walking til you see a 1st class carriage and risk getting left behind! It's just one train ride, you'll live! On the way back to Interlaken Ost, there will be 1st vs 2nd class carriages. If you only paid for 2nd class tickets, do not hop on the 1st class carriage. Yes, there's a lot of people in 2nd class and you'll end up standing because there's no seat available but that doesn't give you the right to go to 1st class. There's always somebody checking your ticket. It made for good entertainment for me guessing who didn't have 1st class tickets but were in the 1st class carriage - I got 3/3 correct! It's always the ones who watch videos on speaker. This is where 1st class tickets become more obviously better. There's always seats in 1st class. It's quieter. There's no store, cafe, restaurant at the station per se. However, you'll find plenty around the station.

As the train climbed higher, I found myself quietly taking it all in, the steady ascent, the widening views, and the growing sense that I was heading somewhere extraordinary. When the Matterhorn finally came into full view, it felt less like sightseeing and more like a moment to pause and appreciate where I was. Reaching the summit was unforgettable. Standing there, surrounded by glaciers and endless peaks, I did not feel the need to say much at all. The scenery spoke for itself. A picture says a thousand words, and up at Gornergrat, even that feels like an understatement. This was not just a train ride for me; it was a reminder of how powerful and humbling nature can be. The Gornergrat GGB is an experience I would revisit without hesitation and recommend to anyone looking for something truly special.
