Went to this "facility" today after my best friends mother was transferred from a normal nursing…read morehome to this woman's home by her abusive husband through a recommendation from his cousin. She accepted my friend's mother as a patient without having access to obtaining her medications. She has extremely severe diabetes that has caused her to enter a diabetic coma twice now. When my friend spoke with the owner of this facility she told her that her mother "would be fine overnight without her insulin" which was the first red flag. She scrambled to find any extra insulin her mother had and brought it to her so she would not go without it. the next red flag was that she immediately told her that her mom was being placed on hospice and would most likely die soon even though no one at any of the real nursing facilities or doctors at the hospital have brought this up at all. She then told her if she did not come get a medical power of attorney document notarized within 48 hours she would be kicked out. again she accepted this patient without that being a prior requirement before taking her in and it is week of 4th of July on a wednesday. my friend has had no say in any of this and works a full time job and we live an hour away from where she is located now. thankfully i was able to find a notary that could meet us at 7:30pm this evening so that she could get this paperwork done. She is charging $5,000 a month to care for her. apparently her only employee quit yesterday. there are no doors or bed alarms in the patients bedroom which is just a giant living room attached to their home and has threatened that if her mother gets up at night she won't be allowed to stay there which makes sense if you aren't equipped to care for memory loss patients or any patients with a high level care need. She knew we were coming out this evening and when my friend lifted the blanket covering her mother i noticed her diaper was so swollen it looked like she hadnt been changed all day. the woman who runs this facility just gives off bad vibes in general and after seeing what care shes receiving for $5,000 a month i am extremely concerned. apparently this woman is an RN. i have not looked up her license yet but i have worked as a CNA + med tech for 12+ years in various different settings including hospitals, in home care, and long term facilities and nothing about her home is comparable to the care that her patients should be receiving. our plan is to get her out of there as soon as possible and back to the facility she was at where they had the staff and ability to properly care for their patients. Over the past two days that she has had to interact with her the only reassurance she has given is that "most people die quickly when they get there so she won't have to deal with overcrowding" while also telling my friend that all the sudden her mother is going to die soon. Her husband has multiple adult protective services investigations open against him right now for abuse and leaving her mother to die alone in her bedroom multiple times where she has been put on life support when her daughter finds out and EMTs arrive and take her to the hospital because of the condition she is in. Please for the love of god do not send your family members here if you have any other option

Torie is kind, efficient, and trustworthy, in everything she provides to her patients. Torie truly is a special person. I would highly recommend her for a caregiver any day! The whole family felt Pop was in good hands. Oh, and we cannot forget Moose. Moose is so sweet and provides comfort alongside Torie and her family!! This is unacceptable in health care. I hope their other "standards" are better. If we as patients are unable to get in touch with them, why should I set up any appointments with them? I was sent to Sheltering Arms due to Migraines, and very severe Vertigo. What I found out, thanks…read moreto my very attentive and caring Therapist was so much more. Were it not for her caring and in depth knowledge, I would have just slipped through the medical cracks; as I have for so very many years, and continued to have the trouble I had. My Therapist figured out that the crystals in my ears were severely spread out through multiple passages in my ear canals. Once she fixed those (which took weeks) she discovered huge problems with my balance. Through her patience and testing, I've not only improved, but I have no more Vertigo! This is all she does, this Therapist deals with Migraine and Vertigo, nothing else. I have been (and continue to go) going for over 2 months now, I am able to walk without stumbling, or bumping into walls. My Therapist found out that the 2 nerves in each ear were devastated, due to a medicine I was given back in 2012 to save my life. Sometimes the cure comes at a price, that price was my balance. Thanks to her, I will be seeing specialists regarding my ears and my Migraines. My Therapist also evaluated the 3 types of balance that we all have; eyes, legs, and inner ears. All three of mine have been affected in one way or another, however my eyesight balance has made substantial improvement as well as my leg balance. I am truly grateful to all of the friendly and helpful staff at Sheltering Arms. They are kind and caring people, who give to people like me, far more than they realize. I am never tasked with anything that is beyond my reach, and it is a safe environment to get stronger. My Therapist is cognizant of all of my limitations both there and at home, and she has made me feel comfortable and safe telling her anything regarding my health. She truly has gone the extra mile for me, as far as her knowledge, and her innovations to my therapy program. I would recommend this facility to ANYONE! I would recommend my Therapist to people suffering with Vertigo. She doesn't work miracles, you have to do the work, however she does help and works very hard to make you feel respected, and treated with dignity as a whole person not as a condition.

And the only way to not be charged a monthly $35 fee is if I cancel my account. Their marketing is dishonest which makes me wonder if the other things they say about how they vet their service providers is dishonest or inaccurate also. I called and emailed their customer service and all they said is cancel your account if you don't want to be billed $35 a month if you don't use their services in a month. That's awfully cumbersome if you want to occasionally use their services.
